Amazing flexibility and simple to setup

Not only has it made controlling lights simple and easy to do, but has improved the safety of our home by allowing us to schedule cycles when traveling or during winter months when we arrive well after dark to a well illuminated home. In addition, the ability to select light colors from a unlimited pallet, has made entertaining, working from home or just relaxing a sensory event and much more satisfying. We are glad to see the price point of additional lightbulbs come down so we can install these in more locations of our home. …

It took several days of fussing around to get them all to show up in the Hue app. Eventually, half of them stop working and cannot be found by the bridge. Very sloppy implementation, terrible support, and Apple only gives you 14 days to return them. This product IS great fun when it works, but they are a hot mess to keep working. Verdict: not ready for prime time; buyer beware. …

I have had 2 of the flood lights die on me, originals still work ok
I purchased 3 Flood lights separately at the apple store, I already had the original starter pack and bulbs. In less than 6 month I purchased 3 Flood lights separately at the apple store, I already had the original starter pack and bulbs. In less than 6 months I have had 2 of these 3 bulbs failed on me. The light still work but I lose all connectivity to them. I move them around, reset my bridge, try everything but once I lose that initial control I cant get it back. It basically turns into a normal light bulb. The customer support with Phillips was great when they quickly sent payment for my first one that died on me...but less than a month the 2nd one died in the same fashion. I think I will ask for them to credit me for both bulbs, send them both back and just purchase the original Hue light bulbs which have never given me an issue in the year I have had them.
Not sure if its a design flaw but I just dont see how 2 of these would break in the same fashion. …

BR lamps are typically flood lights. A similar PAR30 could come in various beam spreads from spot to wide flood. The light from a BR lamp has a softer edge than a PAR lamp.
If we can asssume this lamp is like the non-remote-controlled Phillips 429498, then it has a 90 degree beam angle, which is a wide beam spread.

This is equivalent to a 50 Watt incandescent bulb. Hue draws around 8.5 Watts of power to produce 600 Lumen output. As far as ENERGY STAR Certification goes, it will not qualified because of its price. According to EPA, "If the qualified product costs more than a conventional, less-efficient counterpart, purchasers will recover their investment in increased energy efficiency through utility bill savings, within a reasonable period of time." The bulb itself use less energy than most CFL but it will not qualified for Energy Star because of it cost. And that's the main reason why a lot of LED are not Energy Star Certified.... yet. …

If you use these 3 hours/day, they should last 13+ years. They use just 8 watts for 630 lumens, so you will save quite a bit of money on electrical costs over the lifespan of the bulbs.
If the original starter pack bridge breaks, you will need to link your old bulbs with the new bridge. This used to be difficult with the original bridge firmware and app, but is now easier. If you use the "Hue Lights" third-party app, your scenes are stored with the app, so you wouldn't lose your scenes or favorite colors. The order that you add bulbs is still important though. When you get a new bridge, add the bulbs in the same order as the original to preserve your light numbers. The everyhue.com website has a lot of posts on this topic. …
