I've had no problems with it, and I thought that everything was perfect...until about 5 days ago I decided to take off the cover to see if there was any dust. I was expecting to find dust, NOT mold! These Speck cases are not compatible with the aluminum on Mac's. There are permanent markings and scribbled looking engravings from....I don't even know what, but it was definitely not from me. I looks like some type of acid reaction? There were also white spots all over (top and bottom), from the mold. I did some research and found that another person had the same problem as I have using the Speck Case. I thought that paying the $50 and putting this case on my computer would keep it from getting permanent markings and damage, but oh boy was I wrong! Now I have markings all over, and I'm super upset. Apple should not sell a product that is not compatible with their own. I would recommend getting just a traditional bag or pouch with a zip so your Mac can breathe, instead of buying this case. It's way cheaper and safer for your laptop. Who knows, maybe I am the only one experiencing this...but I know for sure that I'm not using my Speck case again! …

I can't comment on the hinges holding the case together yet and if they will break. I will update if they do. It fits like a glove, adds very little bulk to the minimalistic design of the macbook pro retina. All ports are open just as shown in the pictures, there are no sharp edges that i can feel, you can see the apple logo through the case just as stated. As of right now i have no complaints about this case, but i will update this review if it does turn out to be a bad buy. …

I bought this case a year ago, I am quite gentle with it as it houses my retina display macbook. Even though I am gentle with it, I bought this case a year ago, I am quite gentle with it as it houses my retina display macbook. Even though I am gentle with it, it has broken twice. Speck offers a warranty where you send them back your broken case and they will replace it, although this is a good deal, it is still time consuming to get is shipped and you have to pay $15 (that they don't reimburse you for) to send if off to them also. I definitely would not purchase it again. …

Speck Case Mold Problem

I wipe it down occasionally with Clorox wipes in the hopes that it will kill whatever is growing and eating (yes eating!) into the aluminum case. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to ditch the speck case. Disappointing! …

I put it only one time in my backpack, not in the same pocket as my keys (or any potentially dangerous item for the case), and the top part is already all scratched. And because of the vivid colors, the scratches are even more visible... …

The lid portion fits a lot more snug than the bottom. I haven't seen one on the older model but I may return it because its bugging me to have a slight creaking sound when I pick it up with one hand (when open) and I feel it slightly moving/detaching. It might be a good idea to keep it for the long term protection but the slight weight increase is noticeable when the Pros are so light now days. All that said, I can't imagine another brand would be better at this issue, it seems to be a function of this type of cover. …

I took it off for cleaning my mac, and guess what? The plastic buds that hold the case onto the mac snaps, and falls off. All corners! The middle of the case has a huge crack. The case makes the mac super heavy. And when I took it off, there was too much dust, literally stuck to the Mac. And also, this case makes the Mac overheat countlessly whenever I hold it on my lap. It is blisteringly hot to the touch. As soon as I took the case off, my battery performed normally, No more warnings about the battery overheating. Do NOT get this product! …
