Solid Case
I just got this today, it seems pretty solid fit for the Macbook Pro 13' Retina display. I can't comment on the hinges holding the case together yet and if they will break. I will update if they do. It fits like a glove, adds very little bulk to the minimalistic design of the macbook pro retina. All ports are open just as shown in the pictures, there are no sharp edges that i can feel, you can see the apple logo through the case just as stated. As of right now i have no complaints about this case, but i will update this review if it does turn out to be a bad buy. …

Speck 13' SmartShell Case
I've used this case since the first day that I bought my macbook which was almost a year from now. I've had no problems with it, a nd I thought that everything was perfect...until about 5 days ago I decided to take off the cover to see if there was any dust. I was expecting to find dust, NOT mold! These Speck cases are not compatible with the aluminum on Mac's. There are permanent markings and scribbled looking engravings from....I don't even know what, but it was definitely not from me. I looks like some type of acid reaction? There were also white spots all over (top and bottom), from the mold. I did some research and found that another person had the same problem as I have using the Speck Case. I thought that paying the $50 and putting this case on my computer would keep it from getting permanent markings and damage, but oh boy was I wrong! Now I have markings all over, and I'm super upset. Apple should not sell a product that is not compatible with their own. I would recommend getting just a traditional bag or pouch with a zip so your Mac can breathe, instead of buying this case. It's way cheaper and safer for your laptop. Who knows, maybe I am the only one experiencing this...but I know for sure that I'm not using my Speck case again! …

Does it make sense to purchase this AND the neoprene case? Will the macbook pro (with speck smartshell) fit into the neoprene case?
- Asked by Tara B from Newcomerstown

Answer
I have both types of cases on my MBP Retina and MacBook Air and both fit fine together. The neoprene is more protective for impacts such as dropping but the Speck Smartshell is better for scratches. Depends on which is more problematical for the way you use your devices. …

Does the smartshell case on the macbook lead to the macbook overheating and/or prevent it from cooling if it starts to overheat??

Best Answer
It doesn't directly lead to overheating.. I'm still able to use it on a day-to-day basis with no pro blems.. Its just that theres an increase CHANCE of it heating up (not overheating) if you do something intensive...
In terms of cooling.. as it is plastic if the laptop is hot it will take longer to cool down as plastic retains heat.. but it will cool overtime.. …- Answered by Alvi C
