The Nest Learning Thermostat makes saving energy simple with control over Wi-Fi from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Nest also remembers what temperatures you like and turns itself down when you’re away.
Nest creates a personalized schedule based on the temperature changes you've made. All you have to do is get comfortable. It's so simple that 95% of Nests have schedules.
Nest automatically turns itself to an energy-saving temperature when you're away, so you don't waste energy heating or cooling an empty house.
Connect your Nest thermostat to Wi-Fi, download the free Nest Mobile app, and change the temperature from anywhere.
Energy History and Energy Report
See when the heat or AC was on and what affected your energy use. Then check your monthly Energy Report to understand how your energy use changes month-to-month and how you can save more.
Nest will show you when you're choosing a temperature that'll help you save. Look for the Leaf every time you turn the ring.
Lower your AC bill in the summer with Airwave, which cuts AC runtime automatically when humidity isn't too high—ensuring that you stay cool.
System Match turns on custom features depending on what heating or cooling system you have. It's perfect for high-efficiency radiant and heat pumps or for forced air systems.
If you’re comfortable changing a light fixture, you can install Nest. Three out of four people install Nest themselves in 30 minutes or less. A Nest Certified Professional can also help you install—visit Nest's website at nest.com to learn more.

Helps save energy automatically by adjusting temp settings to your impute, either manually or automatically when you are home. It learns your comfortable/preferred temp settings rather than having to program it.
And you can completely control it (temp settings, heat or cool on and off, etc) from your iPhone or iPad.
Although not cheap, I bought 2 first generation units for our new house (one for up stairs, one for down stairs) and have been very impressed with easy of operation. I sit in bed at night and adjust either thermostat using my iPhone or iPad (or sit in a hotel room miles away) and see the outside temp and adjust the thermostat if it has not already learned my preferences. …

NEST is Awesome
I just installed my Nest and I must say I love it. There is no lag in turning on my HVAC system I just dial the temp and the HVAC I just installed my Nest and I must say I love it. There is no lag in turning on my HVAC system I just dial the temp and the HVAC system is instant on. I bought one to try it out and I absolutely will purchase another. Just a tip when reading these reviews, the one star ratings are from home installers who didn't research their problems or install the NEST correctly. The NEST is NOT an iPhone, it gets power from the HVAC system so you don't need to charge the batteries (Clue one). The battery issue and voltage problems are because it isn't installed correctly (Clue 2). Your HVAC system has an Rc and Rh wire with is Hot (heat) and Hot (cold) in MOST system the Nest can use this for power, but SOME require a common wire (C) which these people obviously didn't install (Clue 3). What happens is exactly what these people describe the NEST works great for a few months and then dies. This is because it has a battery backup to keep its settings during power outages (Clue 4). No I don't work for Nest, I just feel its not right to rip apart a product because someone did a self install incorrectly. Also, I wanted to add this because these misleading reviews almost made me not purchase this unit so do your research and you will see these people didn't install it correctly. Anyway this thing is awesome and I love.... …

The Nest Thermostat cannot be wired directly to your heating system since it is using lower voltage The Nest Thermostat cannot be wired directly to your heating system since it is using lower voltage (12V vs. 230V) and would be irreparably damaged if connected that way. It uses a transformer to lower the voltage to a lower level.
In the US boilers also use a lower voltage and as a result of this Nest can be connected directly to provide boiler control. In the UK and Europe we use 120-240v boilers. For these types of boilers an additional piece of hardware is provided called the Heat Link. This connects to the boiler and turns it on and of at the Thermostats (or your) request.
Using Heat Link to control your boiler allows you to put the Thermostat where you’d like - it can be where you have an existing wired Thermostat installed or in a new place. So if you don’t have Thermostat wires in the wall or if the existing Thermostat was poorly placed, you can still install Nest in a good spot. …
