The Nest Learning Thermostat makes saving energy simple with control over Wi-Fi from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Nest also remembers what temperatures you like and turns itself down when you’re away.
Nest creates a personalized schedule based on the temperature changes you've made. All you have to do is get comfortable. It's so simple that 95% of Nests have schedules.
Nest automatically turns itself to an energy-saving temperature when you're away, so you don't waste energy heating or cooling an empty house.
Connect your Nest thermostat to Wi-Fi, download the free Nest Mobile app, and change the temperature from anywhere.
Energy History and Energy Report
See when the heat or AC was on and what affected your energy use. Then check your monthly Energy Report to understand how your energy use changes month-to-month and how you can save more.
Nest will show you when you're choosing a temperature that'll help you save. Look for the Leaf every time you turn the ring.
Lower your AC bill in the summer with Airwave, which cuts AC runtime automatically when humidity isn't too high—ensuring that you stay cool.
System Match turns on custom features depending on what heating or cooling system you have. It's perfect for high-efficiency radiant and heat pumps or for forced air systems.
If you’re comfortable changing a light fixture, you can install Nest. Three out of four people install Nest themselves in 30 minutes or less. A Nest Certified Professional can also help you install—visit Nest's website at nest.com to learn more.

Helps save energy automatically by adjusting temp settings to your impute, either manually or automatically when you are home. It learns your comfortable/preferred temp settings rather than having to program it.
And you can completely control it (temp settings, heat or cool on and off, etc) from your iPhone or iPad.
Although not cheap, I bought 2 first generation units for our new house (one for up stairs, one for down stairs) and have been very impressed with easy of operation. I sit in bed at night and adjust either thermostat using my iPhone or iPad (or sit in a hotel room miles away) and see the outside temp and adjust the thermostat if it has not already learned my preferences. …

Wish It Was 5 Stars But It's Only 1 Star
I was so excited to order this product when the gen 2 first came out - the concept is great and the user interface is wonderful. U I was so excited to order this product when the gen 2 first came out - the concept is great and the user interface is wonderful. Unfortunately the build quality Is so poor that everything else doesn't matter.
When my heating / cooling contractor installed it for me (I have a ground source heat pump so Nest recommended a pro install) a year and a half ago - it was his first experience with it and he was impressed but not as quick to convert as I had been.
Just to be sure everything was good - my contractor talked to the Nest support group when first connecting and everything went well.
Suddenly 6 months later in the middle of the winter - the thermostat started sending a cooling request at the same time as a heating request to my heat pump which left me with only air conditioning on a very cold day. Even after changing the mode to heating only it continued to send cooling requests.
My contractor came out and after conferring with Nest support for about an hour, they finally agreed it was a defect and arranged to send me a new one.
In the meantime my contractor disconnected the cooling wires at the heat pump so that the thermostat couldn't try to cool the house (it was -10C outside).
When the new one arrived a week later - I hooked it up, had my contractor come back to reconnect the cooling at the furnace and we were OK again.
I thought this was a fluke and went back to singing the praises of the Nest Thermostat to my friends.
Now it's the middle of the winter again and suddenly my furnace is making a terrible sound and my house is freezing.
Contractor is back and the replacement thermostat has begun sending simultaneous heating and cooling request (actually only a 15v cooling request but a 24v heating request).
This time the defective (again) thermostat damages my reversing valve.
With all the visits and now repair charges - my contractor has cost 3 - 4 times the value of the thermostat and he has now had enough experience with them to tell me this is not a fluke. The electrical circuits are cheap and these problems are cropping up fairly regularly.
There are other alternatives now and I can't afford the cost or headache of sticking with this Nest thermostat. …

Give it a try, so long as you can return it.
I read a bunch of reviews online here and other websites. People love it or hate it. Mostly because it works for some and not for I read a bunch of reviews online here and other websites. People love it or hate it. Mostly because it works for some and not for others. I bought Nest a couple of days ago. The batteries continually die, causing the Nest to shut down and resulting in me having no control over my AC or heat. So for me, it didn't work. When it's on, it looks great. The concept is fantastic and I have friends who have Nest and they have been problem free, which is why I decided to give it a shot.
It seems the best option is to buy it from Apple or from somewhere you can return it, should it not work for you. Also, only if you can install it yourself. It took me about 20 minutes. So when it didn't work, I spent another 20 minutes disconnecting it. All I lost was the time for the install and removal and two trips to the Apple Store.
My Nest is completely compatible with my system and when it was on and had power it controlled AC and heat just fine. I do have an RC wire, which is supposed to provide power, but that must not be the case, hence the frequent shutdowns for loss of power.
I hope this helps clear up the confusion for some people on why there are 5 star reviews and 1 star reviews for the same product. …
