Overview
Bluetooth technology
The JBL Flip portable speaker streams stereo music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-equipped iPad, iPhone, iPod, or other device.
Built-in bass port
Some portable speakers struggle to produce bass, but not JBL FLIP. Using a built-in bass port, the speakers generate big bass that's superior to comparable portable products.
Digital signal processing
The JBL Flip employs digital signal processing to generate room-filling audio with great bass from a compact speaker.
Built-in microphone and call-answer button
Not all of the sounds from the JBL Flip come from your music. There's a microphone and a call-answer button so you can answer phone calls from the speaker.
Five-hour, Li-ion rechargeable battery
The built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery provides up to five hours of playback time. You can easily recharge the battery using the adapter, which saves you battery hassles and money.
Versatile, portable design
The JBL Flip stereo speaker plays from either a vertical or horizontal position, so you can place it in a variety of locations. And it fits easily into a backpack, so you can take it from one place to the next.
LED indicator
A clearly visible LED lets you know when the built-in battery needs to be recharged, as well as when the JBL Flip is in Bluetooth listening or pairing mode.

Brilliant Speaker with essential feature missing (for me and maybe others)
I read glowing reviews of this online, and I have to say the sound lives up to them. I can't believe this thing can fill my room w ith clear, non-distorted sound.
The problem - this is a portable speaker, you're meant to take it on the road. The battery life is middling (5 hours stated, nowhere near it) and that would be fine except there's no USB port to charge it with. So, every time you need to charge, it's old-school mains adapter time. I don't want to carry an extra mains adapter in an age where everything except my macbook charges off USB. Every other Bluetooth speaker I've seen has a mini USB charging port, and I'm certain the second version of this will.
I'm taking it back, but if this doesn't bother you, it's an amazing sound, easy pairing and great design …- Written by simon B from New York

Don't be put off...
...by the lack of a decent product photo. It tells you nothing about this little gem. I was in the Apple Store recently listenin g to another small speaker for my iPad and discussing its sound quality with another potential buyer. Meanwhile, an Apple salesperson was fiddling around with the bluetooth setup of this speaker and his iPhone. When the sound came through the JBL, the other customer and I were very pleasantly surprised. Wow! Crisp, and deep sound that took command of the open environment. Think of what it would sound like in my space. We both bought one. I dig it so much, I'm buying another as a X-mas present. …

this speaker is the best of the small bluetooth speaker, bar none. i think i know audio and i have done alot of research. granted i ts not my macintoch/thorens/jbl or the klipsch 5 way on my computer, but i wanted something portable with no distortion. i hate distortion!!!!!!!! i own a jambox, what a disappointment!!! THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE JAMBOX. SO IF YOU WANT GOOD SOUND IN A SMALL PACKAGE, TRY THIS ONE I KNOW YOU WILL AGREE. $99. CHEAPER THAN THE BEST PRICE ON A JAMBOX …

Compact power
Had to get a portable radio so I took a chance with this one. At first glance, it doesn't look like it can pack a punch but it def initely can. I like the Bluetooth connection as well because it allows me to have my phone on me while I'm playing music. I am impressed! …

Very Pleased.
I just got it today. I compared it to a couple of other models by other makers, both of which I respect and one that I'm stubbornl y loyal to. I had some JBL speakers in high school though, and this Flip caught my eye.
In the store, she instantly had the other two contenders eating her dust.
Got home, opened the box and charged the battery, tested it out and laughed out loud at the beauty of this fine product.
Very, very pleased. Hats off to the fine people of JBL and the fine people of Apple for providing us with this.
Very proud. …- Written by Brad V from Tokyo

Will this product be compatible with the Macbook pro/ Macbook air?

I just bought the JBL FLIP with a goal of pairing with my iphone and macbook pro.
However the iphon e paired easily but the macbook pro would not, the wheel kept spinning looking for a device. I finally gave up and decided to head back to the Apple store. First I went to my barber for a haircut and was discussing the pairing problem. He had a bluetooth device (not JBL)and the instructions said the hold down the on/off switch until you see the pairing take place. I went home and tried this and it worked. I can now pair to my iphone and macbook pro. I have to say that the instructions for the JBL are horrible. Shame on them. So to pair just click on the bluetooth inon on the top bar then click on "Set up Bluetooth device" - Now turn on the JBL and hold the power button down until you see the message on the laptop that the JBL FLIP is paired. Now enjoy the sound from the JBL. Hope this helps. And thanks to my barber :) …- Answered by Ed N from Carmel

Is it compatible with FaceTime/Skype calls on my iPad 2?
- Asked by Tom B from Welland
- Dec 28, 2012
Answer
yes it is.
It works same as regular bluetooth phone calls where you see your audio options to swi tch device. But the pain point is, the JBL (Or any mic/speaker device) should be closer to your ipad/iphone while doing facetime/skype calls. This is how I used it.
I called my parents in facetime while my iphone is connected to JBL. You will see audio options in place where you have mute button. (bottom left) When you select that you can either choose "speaker" which used ipad/iphones speaker and mic, or choose JBL then it used JBL's speaker and mic.
The speaker is not right next to me but within 3 feet away from where I was sitting. While I could hear my parents alright, they said my voice lagged when I spoke. I switched my audio to "Speaker" then they could hear me alright.
I wish I could use iphone/ipad mic alone instead of JBL's mic and speaker coz you will have to keep both phone and speaker closer to you when you speak to avoid lag. I do skype calls from my samsung TV where I sit atleast 5-6 feet away from my TV, and never had voice lag.
Great speaker for the price your pay.
Hope this helps. …- Answered by Yokesh K from Los Angeles
