After seeing that everyone was comp So I read the reviews, I took a chance and ordered this case for my brand new 15" macbook pro. After seeing that everyone was complaining about "clips" breaking I was concerned, but then again most all Apple users are nit pickers. Here is what I found upon roughly 3 weeks of ownership:
Does NOT scratch your macbook pro as others have listed.
Protects your laptop, but would most likely break if dropped.
The "clips" others reviewed as breaking can occur if - you are not careful with the install, OR you are ruff with opening the lid. Be sure to carefully install this case.
The case does NOT look like the picture (I expected an iphone "ottor box" style material).
This case is a gel-like polyurethane material.
I would buy it again, but only to protect from scratches not drops. If you drop it-it will probably break. It is overpriced as all Apple products are. Lastly, stop taking off stars do to your non-tech incompetence! …

I have no idea how they did as a rarely take the computer off my desk. After a dozen emails with customer service I got a replacement case. The vents on the bottom work well with the retina macbook pro, but the bottom back corners are a bit flimsy. After a month of use, the left bottom back corner broke off. I'm a student and I use my computer regularly in class, but I don't throw it around or anything. The warranty doesn't cover broken parts so now I'm out fifty. Wait for a better case to come out because there is no way this case can last longer than a year for a regular user. …

I have purchased two of these SmartShell Cases and with each I have had a problem . The first case broke at the corner where the power cable connects. Upon inspection I noticed the lip of the case's corner was not quite big (long) enough to come over the top of the computer. This lead me to believe I had caught that corner on something in my back pack. Not to self, be careful when removing the computer out of the back pack.
I purchased a new case (another 50 bucks) I carefully installed the case on to the computer. This was approximate 40 days ago. Last night I removed my computer from my backpack and noticed two of the non-skid rubber feet were missing. I searched the back pack, office floor at home and could not locate them.
My recommendation is for Apple to reengineer this product. I don't think I will be spending another 50 bucks on this product anytime in the future.
Otherwise, great products all around.... this one is a dud. …

Pretty but poor quality
I bought a speck case and was very pleased with the aesthetics and protection. However, my pleasure was short lived when four week I bought a speck case and was very pleased with the aesthetics and protection. However, my pleasure was short lived when four weeks into my ownership the back tabs broke off and hairline cracks appeared at the corners. I exchanged it at the apple store with the hopes that the poor quality on the first case was a fluke or perhaps that I had handled it improperly and it was MY fault. I changed my handling of the product and began leaving it stationary on my desk, save for the seldom trip to my bedroom. Within three weeks one of the tabs broke off again and I began to observe cracks. I am very disappointed and will be taking this product to Apple for a refund. I will also be looking for an alternate product with which to protect my MBP. This poor quality is unacceptable. …

The lid portion fits a lot more snug than the bottom. I haven't seen one on the older model but I may return it because its bugging me to have a slight creaking sound when I pick it up with one hand (when open) and I feel it slightly moving/detaching. It might be a good idea to keep it for the long term protection but the slight weight increase is noticeable when the Pros are so light now days. All that said, I can't imagine another brand would be better at this issue, it seems to be a function of this type of cover. …

I took it off for cleaning my mac, and guess what? The plastic buds that hold the case onto the mac snaps, and falls off. All corners! The middle of the case has a huge crack. The case makes the mac super heavy. And when I took it off, there was too much dust, literally stuck to the Mac. And also, this case makes the Mac overheat countlessly whenever I hold it on my lap. It is blisteringly hot to the touch. As soon as I took the case off, my battery performed normally, No more warnings about the battery overheating. Do NOT get this product! …
