Ratings & Reviews

  • Best total package available on the market today.

    4.0 out of 5 stars

It's not perfect yet, but this band has been a wonderful pedometer (I've done many tests to see if it over or under counts), a gre at sleep tracker, consistently accurate.

I actually do track my food and, though it needs a few improvements, it's driven me to eating healthier and being more aware of what I'm putting in my body.

I love the gentle armband alarm and the inactivity reminder.

Not perfect yet, but Jawbone has stood behind it's Customer Service and Product Research.

  • Probably one of the coolest pedometers ever

    5.0 out of 5 stars

Way more than a pedometer -- it tracks my sleep, REM cycles and of course, steps. What's cooler is that it also tracks my progres s against my friends. It is definitely a motivator for a healthier lifestyle.

  • Much better than expected

Have to say, loving this device so far. The sleep and activity tracking are very very accurate. Device is light to the point if forgetting about it. Also hooked in the vibration alarm. Lot to offer in the package. Couldn't stay with fitbit, kept losing the device and just didnt seem as user friendly.

  • Slightly more than just a bracelet.

    4.0 out of 5 stars

I'll start of this review with a quick about me. Age 18. Male. Pretty active lifestyle. According to my band I average 10,000 step s per day.

I bought the UP band for a few reasons. 1. I like the idea of technology becoming increasingly intertwined with daily life, especially in relation to personal health/well-being. 2. The UP is more comfortable and looks nicer than other comparable products (Fuel, Bit, etc.) 3. I like the idea of wearing a bracelet, but most are tacky (currently it is the only wrist accessory I wear).

Price point is meh, simply because it matches the Nike Fuel and FitBit.
Astethically the UP far surpasses competition, it is slimmer and lighter than the Fuel. It feels comfortable after becoming accustomed to the feel. But, Sizing can get a little complicated especially when you are stuck between snug and loose. Jawbone's sizing guide isn't too helpful on this question.

Functionally it works great, having a ten-day battery is a HUGE benefit to the UP. It is hard to check back the band's accuracy when it comes to number of steps, but the sleep tracking feature is amazingly accurate. Please! Calibrate your Band! This makes a big differences in determining step count throughout the day.

The UP band is a Motivator! This is probably the most significant feature or I guess result of owning the UP band. Knowing that the UP is tracking all of your steps really encourages more activity, and more sleep. That's a huge benefit for people who are looking to improve their well-being.

It doesn't do bluetooth, which I speculate a later generation will probably have built in.
Having to manually put the band in sleep mode is a small hassle that sometimes results in sleep not being tracked.
Water resistant not waterproof meaning no swimming, but it can do showers and such. I always take mine off before any water related activity.

The UP App for iPhone is a little clunky and can definitely use uprages for usability. But the data is displayed neatly and it is easy to find and show others.

People always ask about my UP band. It is a really good product that I would encourage anyone to buy. But it is not a necessity by anymeans and could definitely use some upgrades.

  • Sleep better, train better, feel better

    4.0 out of 5 stars

I am new to the fitness tracking and training world. The Jawbone UP made it easy for me to get a handle on managing my diet, lear ning how active (or inactive) I am and motivated me to do better. So far I have had my UP for 4 weeks and have lost 8 pounds and loved every minute of it!

A great buy and one of the best investments i've made. The one feature I wish it had was the ability to track your weight and integrate with wi-fi scales or allow you to calculate body fat percentages (like the fit-bit does).

Overall would definitely recommend it to anyone interested. It's a better value than the Nike+ Fuel band with the sleep on its own!

Have used mine continuously since December 2012. Good for people who have an n=1 (experiment of one) mentality.

Pro: it is a g reat device to keep track of your week to week or month to month activity. Used as a longitudinal tool, it is quite effective. Also, good to see the correlation between sleep and activity. It has been helpful to look at my sleep patterns and to try to improve my sleep habits. Created "Team" with my wife (who also has one) that promotes competition/accountability. Easy to use and easy to wear. Battery life is very good. Build quality and durability has been good. Finally, looks ok and it is a conversation starter.

Con: Distance accuracy. But of course a device on your wrist is not going to be able to judge distance very well. But my focus has been on my total activity day to day, week to week etc. and for that it is fine. I think that an ankle device would do a better job with distance. Wish that the software had a journalling and weight tracking option. (Recent update brought in ability to sync to other apps, but I have not used yet). Have to be careful to not lose the cap when syncing. Finally, can take on odors when cooking, grilling etc.

Note: Might be more helpful if I used the food tracking option, but have not.

  • Is it waterproof

    Answer

It isn't totally waterproof but it is water resistant. You can shower, do the dishes, wear it in the rain, etc without worrying about it but I wouldn't swim with it.

This is what I have heard online.

No, the jawbone up doesn't have Bluetooth or WiFi built in. You sync all your data using the 3.5mm h eadphone jack under the cap on the Up.

The Up is always on unless it dies. But yes every night before you go to bed you have to make sure t o put it in sleep mode. You can do this using the silver square on one of the sides on the Up.

Yes you can. You can press the button twice quickly to indicate it's recording a workout.

    From J awbone's FAQ's:
Will it work if I cycle, do yoga, or other non-step-based workouts?
The UP app allows you to log the duration and effort level of a variety of different workout types, so you get credit and estimated caloric burn for non-step-based activities. Additionally, the UP band has a Stopwatch mode that lets you "tag" the start and end of your activity Once you've synced your band, you can enter the details of your workout.

I have the rich blue and my friend has the sky blue/mint green band. It can pick up some grime, but it doesn't stain. I always wipe it down with a baby wipe or something similar and it comes up like new :)
