Works as described but many false alarms
Just received today, and most everything works as described except I am experiencing many false alarms and only when the hipkey an d the iphone are in my pocket (hipkey in my front pant pocket and iphone in the back, to be more precise.) As I am walking or even driving in my vehicle, the alarm mode (both phone and hipkey) sounds and silences on its own. Seems something is causing interference or a lost BT signal. So far, I'm not thrilled. …

After 10 weeks with hipkey I have come to love the device. hipkey is elegant, easy to use and very reliable in maintaining a conne ction and re-connecting when close to my iPhone. It has nice extra features like the safe zone and motion alarm (detecting instant movements). I'd recommend this great little accessory for everyone. My wife is getting one for Mothers Day :-) …

how to avoid false alarms
One review has mentioned false alarms. I don't get any false alarms on my hipkey. The connection is very reliable once established and the reach is quite good. Outdoor I get 450 feet between my iPhone and hipkey when they are in line of sight. Indoor the range is less but still acceptable. It depends on the rooms, doors, construction materials etc.
The trick not to get unwanted alarms is to use the excellent safezone feature. I have set up safezone's in my home, office, parents place and a few other places. My iPhone registers every time I enter and exit a safezone. hipkey does not alarm when being inside a safezone. Its a great feature.
I noticed that hipkey sometimes makes 2-3 beeps when I pick it up inside a safezoe. First I thought this was an alarm. I contacted the vendor and they told me it is not an alarm but a "safezone notification". Here is how it works:
When hipkey has entered a safezone it will not sound the normal distance alarms. If hipkey looses its connection to its iPhone it will start monitoring if it is moved (it uses the build in movement sensor). When moved hipkey will make 3 notification beeps to inform me that it is not connected to my iPhone. The vendor told me this feature is meant to warn you, that you are about to leave your safezone without your iPhone. Very handy feature to prevent you from leaving behind your iPhone when you go to work in the morning.
I have come to like the feature very much but also recommended to the vendor that they make this feature optional in the hipkey App. Not all might like this feature. They promised to look into it. …- Written by Michael A

- Asked by Emanuel R from Richmond Hill
- Jan 24, 2013
Answer
No it is not possible to adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor. It has been set to react on a movement equal to someone picking up something from a table. The Motion Alarm can be set up to meet your requirements. E.g. no alarm on hipKey but an Alarm on iPhone or an Alarm on both devices. When an Alarm goes it will sound for a while to ensure it is heard. …
