Plenty of Room but Horrible Connector
I purchased this product because I had to have work done to my Macbook and I didn't want to lose any information. At first I loved the fact that all 30k images and the folders of files I have fit in this little drive and I still had room. Overall this has been a great product so far (7 Months Old). My problem with this product is the connector, the USB side works just fine...but the connector to the actual external hard drive is horrible. Any little move and it disconnects, I don't know if this is just with mine but it is really annoying and I try my hardest not to use it while connected. …

Faulty
I purchased this specifically to back my hard drive up before having it replaced. I did a few days worth of backups; that process was pretty easy and straightforward. For this, I give two stars. I took my computer in to have the hard drive replaced and when I got it back a few days later, I was unable to retrieve any of my backups because the drive is faulty and could not be recognized. I am waiting on a warranty replacement, for which I had to pay the shipping. I realize that any external hard drive can fail, but in addition to my existing frustration, WD redesigned these hard drives so they no longer have SATA connection, so I couldn't even get my data off if I were to crack open the casing. …

Just What I Needed.
Perfect for large-file projects such as working with Photoshop or Logic. Just drag and drop. You can also use this external drive for Time Machine, but I chose not to and just to use it for more memory. …

Can I use this for my imac at home? I bought mine in 2009
- Asked by Karen D from Pleasanton
- Mar 10, 2013
Answer
Yes, you can use it with your 2009 iMac.
The iMac 2009 specifications indicate:
- One FireWire 8 00 port
- Total of six USB 2.0 ports: four ports on computer, two ports on wired keyboard.
Of those four USB 2.0 ports on the rear of your iMac, One of them can be used to power and use this WD 2TB drive. Just realize that you won't be achieving the super fast USB 3.0 speeds because the 2009 iMac doesn't support USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s max.), only the slower USB 2.0 (480Mb/s max.). But for nearly everyone out there, USB 2.0 is still fast enough (especially for music & picture storage or a Time Machine backup) …- Answered by David C from Beaumont
