    Universal connectivity

With both USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports, the LaCie Rugged hard drive is a perfect match for your Mac or PC. And because USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, you can connect it to any standard computer. The LaCie Rugged is also fully bus-powered through the included USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cables. Its portability and interfaces make it the must-have partner for your new Mac.

    No-compromise speed

Get lightning-fast transfer speeds on Mac and PC thanks to the USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports. The HDD version gives you up to 110MB/s, a 35% improvement over FireWire 800. Back up and transfer mountains of data in a fraction of the time. Enjoy noticeably more responsive photo library browsing.

    All-points data protection

The LaCie Rugged is MIL-compliant for superior data protection from accidental drops up to 1.2 meters (4 feet). Whether it falls off your desk or out of the pocket of your safari jacket, you can be confident that your data is still accessible. The LaCie Rugged is tough enough to be shipped for reliable delivery to clients or partners. Included software even protects your files from prying eyes with AES 256-bit encryption.

Thunderbolt gives you up to 10 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.

Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

Obviously it doesn't stay ice-cold when you've got it plugged in and working full-tilt. Likewise, it won't perform as fast as say, the SSD versions on Thunderbolt, but comparing it to USB and FW800 drives I also use, this sucker is wicked fast!

I wouldn't accept this drive even if it was free. If you have data you need, don't trust it on this drive. First drive lasted elev I wouldn't accept this drive even if it was free. If you have data you need, don't trust it on this drive. First drive lasted eleven months and then stopped mounting. Lacie replaced mine under warranty, though I had to pay for the shipping. That doesn't matter. What's worse is that this drive is starting to go, not showing up in Finder or mounting, 2 months later. Hoping to salvage data. This drive is a joke.
