An Excellent Buy
I picked up one of these at my local Apple Store the other day, and it has been working like a dream. I haven't noticed any of pro blems other users seem to have had. Obviously it doesn't stay ice-cold when you've got it plugged in and working full-tilt. Likewise, it won't perform as fast as say, the SSD versions on Thunderbolt, but comparing it to USB and FW800 drives I also use, this sucker is wicked fast! …

Great Enclosure for an easy SSD replacement
I bought two of these for the sole purpose of replacing the hard drive with a 256GB Crucial SSD. My file transfer via the Finder p erformance is about 380MB read and 280MB write. Like some other posts on here, I have seen some unusual disconnect issues with the supplied Thunderbolt cable. I have not had any issues with the white Apple cables nor with the supplied USB 3.0 cable. …

Works like a charm
For security, I used to always copy the files I needed for a meeting onto a usb stick rather than taking the drive with all of the supporting documentation. Thankfully with the encryption that comes with the Rugged, I know that my data is secure so rather than waste time copying a few files, I can take the drive with me. The drive has good speeds, and it has not given me any connection problems using USB3 or Thunderbolt. …

Broke within 1 month, all data lost
After one month of good, fast, performance the drive stopped showing up on my computer whenever I would plug it in. After speaking with tech support it was determined that it was a hardware problem and, still being under warranty, they said I could get it fixed for free.
However, I was informed that to get any information off of the drive I would have to contact a company called d2Recovery (or someone similarly qualified) who solemnly informed me that the service would be $400 or $1000 depending on what was wrong with the drive.
Waste of money, I'll be asking for a refund and will go with a more reliable company and a more reliable product. If you do go with this company be sure to pay more money for a backup service. Though this is a "rugged" drive it spent all of its time in a computer bag, never had the change to utilize its supposed ruggedness.
I'll be more cautious purchasing any more hardware tacitly endorsed by Apple in the future.

You can use Disk Utility System Restore or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your internal hard dr ive or any bootable volume to the Rugged.

I can. I bought the drive and was shocked to only get 110 MB/s, which is faster than my Firewire 80 0 LaCie Rugged drives, but not by much. Compare that to my Pegasus R6 12TB Thunderbolt set to RAID5 which gets more than 600 MB/s.....I don't know if it is the 5400 rpm thing or not, but this is silly. …

Yes. Follow instructions within iTunes for moving your Library to an external drive.
Of course, y ou will only be able to listen to your music or podcasts, or view your videos when drive is connected and available.
