  • Great product - bad manual!!

I loved the iHealth BP cuff, and eagerly bought this as a more portable way for my patients to monitor their BP and communicate it to me. Unfortunately, the manual does not specify that you need to download a different app (iHealth Vitals) than the iHealth for the BP cuff to work with this for those that have that product. Also, it does not make clear that you must make a successful connection first with the iHealth Vitals app for the offline readings to be successful. I actually returned one unit thinking it was defective because these things where not made clear in the manual. Hopefully this will save you a trip back to the Apple Store and not give up on what I think will be a great product. I would give it more stars, but great documentation is part of a great product, and I am afraid other customers will have the same frustrating and needless experience I had. Being forewarned, buy away!

For those of you who have an iPhone 5, it definitely works for it (even though it's not shown on the box) and I'm running the latest iOS6. The instructions are a bit confusing since they don't tell you that you need the specific app (iHealth MyVitals) but I deduced it based on the developer info (iHealth Lab Inc.). The instructions are also poorly written about how to sync (but again, if you use bluetooth before, it's somewhat intuitive) but it would have been nice if they gave step by step instructions. Furthermore, since it doesn't support multiple users, you can get around the system if you have 2 devices and pair the bluetooth separately with individual accounts. But note that once you pair with one device, you need to turn off the bluetooth for that device or disconnect the pairing in order for the second device to discover it. Anyhow, as far as the accuracy of the blood pressure monitor, it is pretty accurate. I obsessively monitor my blood pressure on those free booth at the pharmacy and the iHealth BPM is very similar. I have also been trained to use a sphygmomanometer (the cuffs doctors use) and know that people shouldn't compare any easy-to-use devices to the gold standard tool because it's just not going to be that accurate. That said, the iHealth BPM works well for routine daily usage but you have to put it on correctly! For those that reported it is not accurate, I suspect they may have put the cuff on with the monitor away from the wrist (I did that for fun and it did not give the same reading). The monitor needs to be reading on the inside of the wrist (again, something the instruction could have better point out). My parting note: I purchased the iHealth BPM fro the Apple Store and they stated that I can return the item without any stocking fees, if I didn't feel like it was accurate. I'm happy with my purchase, so this is worth giving a try!

  • Poor manual instructions-what a shame...

I was so excited I opened th My husband bought me the Apple iHealth Wireless Blood Pressure Wrist Monitor as a Christmas present. I was so excited I opened the box and read the instructions carefully, however, we were both very disappointed with this part. We took a long time figuring out how to make the device work properly. I had the right internet connection, bluetooth, the identified device but nothing worked. I downloaded the App iHealth and was beginning to get even more frustrated as I had followed all intructionsin the manual with no luck. I went on internet and found this review page and thanks to one customer who had written his review I was able to target what I was missing; the apps iHealth Vitals!!! Without this app you can try until you´re blue and nothing will happen. Thank you!!! It was thanks to this customer that I persevered and I am glad I did!
After that, things began to look brighter. I am no tech savvy so it took a while before I figure out how to make this device work even with the right app. It is a real shame that the instructions are so poor. This is not an automatic device that you connect to you computer and it is set to go although they make it seem so easy. First you have to charge your device, this is on page 11 of the manual.
Once I figured out everything (it took about 2 hours- I was almost ready to take it back to the store and claim our money back) I was really happy with the product. I am glad I didn´t return it. I really like it and truly serves its purpose. The readings are fairly accurate, visually attractive, and easy to track and see the history of readings.
A few glitches-The case - it is not very practical as it is too small and a bit difficult to store the device in it. No space to keep the cable together. Very pretty design but Not very practical to open and close.
In summary- once I passed the hurdle of figuring out how to make it work-I became very happy with the product. My advice: don´t give up- it is just a shame that the instructions do not accomplish its purpose. I would give more stars but I felt a big part of the product really frustrated me greatly. If this had been taken care of I would easily had given it a 4. I highly recommend it.

Tech support suggested verifying writ size, proper placement of cuff a fingers width below wrist and making sure arm is at correct level. I can get readings anywhere from 15-20 points higher on both systolic and diastolic. If these were my actual readings I would not alive right now or would be in line at the drugstore getting hypertension medicine filled.

My BP runs pretty close to normal... 120/80. I tried 3 units and all 3 give me readings something like 150/90.... 165/105, etc. Not consistent at all. I verified readings with 3 other cuffs... 2 electronic ones and a manual... This iHealth unit isn't even in the ballpark. He pulse reading however is accurate best I can tell.... until you see the Bp reading and it freaks you out til you pulse goes up too... lol !

I bought the scales too... with are spot on. But after my experience, I returned both to switch brands. Did not want 2 different apps for weight and Bp.
