Ratings & Reviews

  • Great product

    5.0 out of 5 stars

This Rugged drive is brilliant. It's both functional and sexy. I bought the 500 GB version and I haven't been happier. It performs exactly how I need it to while staying quiet and blending in with my other equipment. It's good to finally see an external drive that is both practical and appealing to the eye.

  • Excellent Rugged Drive

    5.0 out of 5 stars

It's good to know with the Rugged that I don’t have to be overly gentle with it. I' ve lost count of the number of times I've trie d carefully to protect my portable drives only to have them drop off the table. The rugged design alone has me resting comfortably let alone the added levels of data protection that come with the drive (encryption, cloud storage..)

  • I love this drive!

I needed a drive for backups while travelling and extra storage. This one is perfectly compatible with Time Machine, I use it to b ackup data from my Mac Air. All works very well, no complaints at all. It's a tough little drive, I don't worry about my data security anymore and the encryption is a nice bonus. I highly recommend it.

  • Great drive, bad USB3 port

    3.0 out of 5 stars

Overall, the drive itself is great. But the problem is the USB 3 port. It's poorly glued to the drive's board, so if the USB cable is connected to it and has a certain angle, this will put a force on the port that will eventually make it detach from the board.

So my advice is to either get another drive or be careful with the USB 3 port. Don't leave the USB cable connected to it while you carry it around and make sure the cable is parallel to the surface on which the drive is. The FireWire ports still work and seem well glued to the drive's board (to date).

  • Performs as advertised

    5.0 out of 5 stars

It's been over three months now since I bought this drive, and it works great. I use it primarily with Time Machine for backup. I' ve had absolutely no issues so far. The drive runs cool, makes no noise. The speeds are great. I also like the rugged design.

No. You can't physically plug your iPhone in and transfer pictures. The only way is to download the pictures from your iPhone to your computer, then transfer the pictures from your computer to the hard drive.

When used connected to USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port, the FireWire ports are not active.

When connected to a FireWire port first, the USB port is not active.

So, the simple answer is that you can use FireWire and daisy chain, but not at the same time the USB interface is used.

You just need to make sure you format the drive into a PC/Mac compatible format. If you are transfer ring from a PC to a Mac, "MS-DOS/FAT32" will suffice. You can reformat through the Disk Utility application.
