I'm a real fan of brushed aluminium look. It's also quiet, doesn't buzz or make annoying sounds and it doesn't overheat even after several hours of continuous work. …

although the cable is plugged in correctly it sporadically disconnects causing issues to my photo library causing me to repair the library and delays me from editing, adding or email my pictures while iPhoto repairs the library. the cable seems like the issue but it could be the connector in the hard drive. either way when i need it, it doesn't work. I would not recommend this product to my enemies. …

Not working at all

After 1 or 2 years this product was self disconnecting from my MacBookPro, saying that i had to eject the drive before disconnect. But I did nothing. It happened twice, losing all the work on iMovies. Now I connect and the MacBookPro does dot recognize it! The white light that should be blinking is now continuous and soft. After reading some reviews I see that I`m not the only one. It`s sad, because I bought in Brazil and I paid more than US$400,00 at the time with all the taxes! …

As with the answer from the first responder, ANY eternal device must be removed from the desktop by As with the answer from the first responder, ANY eternal device must be removed from the desktop by putting its icon in the Trash before you disconnect it. Not doing this will start with an annoying "you didn't disconnect properly" message, but it can get worse. If your system is performing one of its periodic checks on all external devices, you can do data damage to the directory.
In other words, just Trash it first, each time. …

can this drive be used for time machine and as an regular external drive at the same time?

Yes you can do so by partitioning the hard drive to setup a select amount for Time Machine and a sel Yes you can do so by partitioning the hard drive to setup a select amount for Time Machine and a select amount for personal use like photos, docs and whatever else you'd like to use it for. You can find youtube videos which will explain the process of how to partition the drive and set the drive up for Time Machine and a personal storage device. I myself recently purchased (2) 1TB hard drives and I use one for Time Machine and the other for personal use. Please note that time machine writes itself basically overtime you will hookup the external hard drive which does not take long and it will run in the backgroud without affecting your computer performance at all. But it is recommended that you have at least 3 to 4 times the amount of space on the hard drive or the partition section for Time Machine. This is basically so that you have plenty of history to come back to if need be. Time Machine will write over itself once it becomes full so if there is not much room than your backup may only be a couple months worth compared to having 6 months to a year or whatever. My internal hard drive or SSD is 256 and I bought a 1TB for just my 256. If you choose to use this 1TB Lacie hard drive for Time Machine and personal use than I would partition at least 750GB of the 1TB for Time Machine.
Hope this helps …
