Great for teachers

I teach at the high school level and having to be tethered to a computer to show videos, presentations or photos was not practical. The setup was simple and to the point. Connected the Apple TV and VGA cable to the Kanex adapter. I have my Apple TV connected to a wifi network so I can use airplay on my iPad. The added feature of audio out is a great benefit when showing videos from my iPad. Picture quality is definitely not HD but it gets the job done. This is a great, small, lightweight product for connecting devices to a VGA. …

I found out later it was because I was using too long of a VGA cable (50ft). Then I switch to a shorter cable (25ft) and the silly problem went away. Sorry it has been a great solution for not having a HDMI ready projector. I just use the optical out on the Apple Tv so I don't know how well the Audio Support works. …

Warning: it doesn't always "just work"
I tried to use this to hook my new Apple TV up to a good Toshiba projector. The projector supports many resolutions and works fine I tried to use this to hook my new Apple TV up to a good Toshiba projector. The projector supports many resolutions and works fine with my MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone (via the relevant adapters). After many hours of trying, I could not get the Kanex ATV Pro to output anything on my projector.
So, be warned. Keep the packaging so you can return this if it does not work with your projector.
Also, as a side note: you will only be able to use this for AirPlay mirroring, you won't be able to watch any movies you rent on the Apple TV via iTunes on the big screen due to HDCP copy protection. …

It converts your HDMI signal coming from your Apple TV into two separate feeds, your VGA and Audio. I have my VGA cable plugged into the adapter and into my projector. I also have an audio cable plugged into the adapter and into the classroom amp system. Works like a charm and allows me to teach without requesting a new HDMI compatible projector (which would take a year or more to actually get).
It converts the image to the same quality that is being transmitted from the Apple TV up to the top quality allowed through the projector. I love the cable, but of course it's really the Apple TV that's so great. The converter just allows me to use the Apple TV with my projector. …
