Finally, a blood glucose meter that connects seamlessly to my son's iPhone

    • Written by from Hampstead

Convenience and connectivity-- who can argue with that? The iBGStar plugs directly into my son's iPhone... no more cables! That's right, no more cables. And now, my son has all his diabetes related information stored in one device (the device he never seems to forget, his iPhone!).

Doc or Mom wants to see his blood sugar numbers? No problem, it's an easy email or text. I can't wait to see the apps that other companies are going to develop to utilize the iBGStar. Thanks to the people who thought this up.

And by the way, when it's not plugged into the iPhone, the iBGStar works on its own. I think it might be the world's smallest blood glucose meter?

    Worth every penny!!!

I'm 17yrs old and I've have had Type 1 diabetes since long before I bought my IPhone. This is the reason I became an Apple user in the first place. Innovation!! This is a great product. Small, discrete with great App. I was at the Apple store with my friends and I bought the iBGStar with my own money but my Mom and Dad were so excited to see I could email my stats to them they paid me back. Doesn't get better than that!! More

    iBGSTar

I am a newly diagnosed Type II and I must say that this meter rocks. It is small and doesn't need a lot of blood to complete a test. I have a complete log of my tests and am able to add notes for special circumstances. The doctor likes the fact that I can email the data to him for his review before my appointment. This meter and app plus the gomeals app will enhance the management of your diabetes. More

    Results are high

    • Written by from columbus

I have been using one touch ultra meters with no issues. My results have always jives with MD's. this meter is 10-20 points high. I take test on both meters at the same time and it is always high.

Today I called customer support (ibgstar) and they basically told me it was the "technology" that the meter uses and that is why it is reading high..... Not sure I buy that, but maybe. Trying to research that now but I am not finding much useful. I really don't want to buy test strips if the reading are going to be inaccurate.

On the positive side, I like it and the software just fine, now if the readings were correct.

    Major League disappointment

    • Written by from Southport

Accuracy of glucose reading are vitally important. I, and others, will base our insulin injections off the meter's result/reading. If the reading is telling you your blood sugar is higher than your actual glucose levels and you end up taking too much insulin based upon an inaccurate high reading, this will lead to low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. A very dangerous condition ! With this meter I have had this happen many, many times. I can take two readings, back to back, and have them vary by up to 50 points ! Generally, even when I am feeling low, this metter will read higher than I am. Adding futher to my aggravation is that I often get "Error" messages when testing - there goes another expensive and wasted test strip ! If you don't get the correct amount of blood up the test channel of the strip, well, there goes another test strip as well. If your hands are not completely dry (and I mean bone dry), you run the potential for another error message with the strip. The results you get in terms of the app software are basic at best - and they mean very little if they are inaccurate. Finally, the batteyr life of the meter is garbage. Don't ever inadvertently leave a test strip in the meter after a test. This will speed up the draining of the battery. And don't think by plugging in the meter to the electrical charger that you'll be back up and immediately be able to test - expect to wait hours for the thing to re-charge !! I AM GOING BACK TO MY OLD METER THAT HAD NONE OF THESE ISSUES ! More

    Amazing product

    • Written by from Elm Grove

I've had the IBGstar App for a long time now. It's an amazing tool for tracking blood sugar readings, giving you further insight into trends, and sharing with your healthcare providers.

Even without the meter, the free app is an amazing tool. My problem was, I would test and forget to track my readings in the app. With the new IBGstar glucose monitor, that is no longer an issue. The monitor tracks up to 300 readings and syncs them with your iphone whenever you plug them together. This way, I never miss tracking a test and I have my entire log book, with little work on my part, whenever I go to see my endocrin.

For those complaining about test strip costs, they have a savings plan with a $20 co-pay card for those that are not on medicare. I have yet to use it but if it works as the site says, you should pay no more than $20 for a pack of strips.

I give this product an A+

    Answer

The software is easy to use & beautiful on the iPad. I even added my A1C reading to a note with a red  from some free Emoticons. Most diabetes programs are written for the PC & ported to the Mac, so they're not as intuitive or easy to use as we Mac'rs expect. At the present time, this meter's software only uses the US system of measurement but I fully expect the US to adapt later..it was discussed in a class I took in Jan 2013. I would like to be able to add other meals, like snacks, tho the times are flexible to group them with other meals. More

Yes, it does work with the iPh5 with an adapter. The software is easy to use & beautiful on the iPad. I even added my A1C reading to a note with a red  from some free Emoticons. No, it does not. But the ease of inputting basal rates and boluses in the app make up for it, in my opinion--especially when wearing a sensor (since you have to turn off the automatic send of bgs anyway to avoid unintended calibrations). More
