Overview
With the LaCie eSATA Hub Thunderbolt Series you can now connect eSATA drives to your Thunderbolt-compatible Mac. Simply attach up to two drives to the Hub, which then connects to the Thunderbolt port on your Mac.
Unleashing full eSATA speeds
Since Thunderbolt's 10Gbit/s provides more than enough throughput to accommodate eSATA's full 3Gbit/s transfer speeds, your drives are no longer restricted by the ExpressCard/34's maximum bus speed of 2.5Gb/s.

The eSATA Hub in a sense modernizes your existing drives, so you don’t have to buy new ones. Even better, eSATA and Thunderbolt connections are software RAID compatible.
Daisy chain for convenience
Thunderbolt technology supports daisy chaining, so you can connect a display or other Thunderbolt device to the eSATA Hub. For example, you can attach your high-end display and your eSATA Hub to your Mac via a single Thunderbolt cable. Thunderbolt technology also supports two channels—one dedicated for data, and the other for video—each with 10Gb/s of bandwidth. This means you can push and pull audio/video data without reducing bandwidth.

LaCie eSATA Hub works well with 4big
I have 2 LaCie 4big Quadra drives that I've used with my Macbook Pro connected via FireWire. While this has served me well, I rece ntly upgraded to a new Macbook Pro with Thunderbolt ports in addition to the FW800 port.
When I heard about the new LaCie Thunderbolt Hub, I wondered if this new device would help me extend the utility of my 4big drives, by allowing them to use the new Thunderbolt connection.
Sure enough, yes it did!
My 4bigs are configured as RAID-5 for speed and safety. When connected via FW800, I could get about 70MB/sec throughput, which was about as fast as I could expect from the FW interface - saturated. After I got the eSATA Hub and connected via Thunderbolt and the 4big eSATA connection, I got almost 3x the performance, just over 200MB/sec.
This sped up my backups and media transfers significantly, and also permitted me to handle more HD sequences on my FCP timeline.
Sure, the eSATA Hub did not come with the eSATA or Thunderbolt cables, but it was no bother, as the 4big drives did come with the needed eSATA cables. The Apple Store reminded me that I would need a Thunderbolt cable, too, so it was easy to add.

Plug-and-play and Double My Transfer Speed
On my old setup, my external RAID 5 HD array transfer at FW800 speed / around 70-80MBs read/write. My internal Seagate 500 GB driv e on my mid-2011 iMac transfer around 100-110 MBs. Now with the Lacie, I connect my old RAID 5 HD array through eSATA / Thunderbolt - now I am getting 120-140MBS read/write. On the second eSATA port I connect a Crucial M4 256GB SSD in an eSATA enclosure and now the transfer speed hit 200 MBs write, 260 MBs read. Incredible speed. Everything runs super fast and smoothly. An excellent investment if you want to add an eSATA ports and SSD to your iMac.
One word of caution - make sure you use a quality eSATA-II cable - one of my cable was defective and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the connection would't work. Switched to a new eSATA cable solve my problem.
Also another minor glitch - for some reason my old Dell external monitor connecting to the second thunderbolt/display port cannot goto sleep - not sure why. My solution around is to just power off the second monitor when I am not using it. …- Written by Tzu L from Centreville

Makes my Apple Display flicker I have to pull cable
Other than you will not be able to put up with the continuously but random flicker from the Apply monitor it works great.
What I mean but flicker is like if you are pulling the thunderbolt cable on and off very quickly. The LaCie hub has two G-Tech 1TB drives cabled via eStata cables.

I was using the Lacie Thunderbolt esata hub adapter connected via Thunderbolt to a mac mini server, and then daisy chaining off of the Lacie hub to an iMac 27" minidisplay port to get the mac mini's video. It worked great for about 2 weeks, but now it gives me nothing but problems - ARD goes out on the server, it pretty much locks up and has to be hard reset.
This configuration is supported, according to Lacie, my two eSATA devices were a Lacie 2 TB BigDisk Quadra, and a Lacie 8TB 4big Quadra, and the final link is the minidisplay port cable.
As I said, your configuration should be supported since you are using all thunderbolt cabling, but then again, my configuration is also supported, but I'm having problems. …- Answered by Jay M from Keller
