Ratings & Reviews

  • Love these drives

    5.0 out of 5 stars

These are rock solid drives. I have over 70 TB worth of various G-tech drives and these have survived power outages, kicking aro und, and on/off...on/off again and again with no issues. Nock on wood, these will be the last drives I ever have to buy. They are fast (i use e-sata and firewire) and they are super reliable. Having the Hitachi enterprise class drives are a big plus. A little more spendy than WD or Seagate, but well worth the price difference for the reliability. One year, I purchased a few seagates and WD, and in that same year, I lost 1 seagate to over heating, and one WD to drive issues. So I said, no more of them, on G-Techs moving forward. I am about to buy 2 more 8TB Graids today as I restructure my storage and backup.

With regards to the previous poster saying the drives are slow, absolutely not. The issue that poster encountered is similar to what I had, however after digging into the tech issue, it turned out to be a cache issue and firewire connector issue. ALso, regardless of drive, if you have minimal memory available, I have noticed things slow down a lot...not related to the drive at all. A simple reboot clears all that with the Mac OS and the system board.

Anyways, I totally and whole heartedly love these drives....and they look cool too :-)

    Regards,
    J

  • Gets extremely hot and then it stops working

I just bought this 8 TB storage but I can't use it. It gets extremely hot and then it gets slower, and finally, it is just stuck a fter 100 GB of files copied. I turned it of for an hour and then I could copy again but, of course, it is not possible to work n that way. My unit is going back to the Apple Store again tomorrow. I know they will refund it.
