Love the leather, hate the lack of a bumper or lip

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

I love the tan leather hex for my white iPhone4s. Looks and feels great. However, the lack of coverage over the edges of the phone, much like a bumper would do, means that there is no buffer between whatever surface and the edges and face of the phone, should ( when ) it get dropped. This, for myself, is a major flaw in the design, compounded by the fact that the phones face actually protrudes a slight bit further than the edges of the case in certain areas. If hex could address this they would have a near perfect case. More

    Stylish

suits perfectly if you need to go out for a short period of time and bring only some essential card or even some cash since it only has 2 pockets, it is very slim and stylish. the only visible problem so far is that the edges of the case do not cover the front screen of the device, therefore it might be dangerous if dropped More

    Great idea, poorly executed.

    • Written by from Seattle

I am one of the people who would really like to give this product a 4 or a 5, but unfortunately, fit and finish really make it a one or two star product.

Out of the box, quality was a little questionable. There was dried glue visible around the camera hole, as well as a gap between the same hole and the inset leather. The plastic structure and the leather finish are joined by a rubber bead around the face of the phone that doesn't match the leather very well, and looks insubstantial.

That said, the concept is awesome, and you quickly forget the initially build issues. It looks and feels great: People constantly complimented the case, and it feels nice to hold up to your ear. It's stylish in formal situations, and useful in everyday situations. I found it particularly great to run with: two slots were perfect for a debit card and transit pass.

After about two weeks, however, the rubbery bead started separating from the case. Initially, I used super-glue to paste it back, but over time, more and more of the bead started to separate and disintegrate. After about three months, the bead started to look like a gunked-up pencil eraser. In the last 4 months of the phone's life, I set a weekly reminder to "reglue phone case".

After about two months, the nylon liner of the card pockets separated from the leather finish, and clumped up halfway down the sleeve, leaving an uncomfortable bulge on the outside of the case, which was kind of unpleasant when holding the phone to your ear for a call.

After about three months, people stopped complimenting me on the case.

After 5 months, the leather started de-laminating from the plastic structure, and I finally stopped using it.

    Some thoughts:
    * If you use a handbag or backpack, you might get more use out of it. I obsessively shove my phone in and out of a jeans pocket, which meant more wear and tear.
    * If you can, buy a darker color. I bought the tan, which I thought was great with a Unicorn, but because the leather is attached to a hard plastic structure, it doesn't age very elegantly, like a wallet or other leather good that is naturally flexible.
    * Don't plan on using it for more than a year.

    Great concept well executed

    • Written by from cape coral

I love this-I"m a minimalist with what i carry with me, and this is the answer. I carry my drivers license and debit card-the only thing missing is a slot for some cash. but I still love it. the only concern I've had is apple-picking. If someone grabs my phone, they get my phone, my money and my drivers license.
Regardless, I love this case. I just wish I'd seen the red one before I bought the british tan.

    Falls apart x2

    • Written by from Manhattan

This is the second of 2 Hex solo wallet cases I have owned. I bought them both at the Apple store. Both of them have now had the same issue: while the case is a decent leather, the material they use to cover the edge of the case (the area you see as you are looking at the face of the phone) is some sort of welted rubber that wears and tears away, leaving some sort of fiberglass-type material exposed. It looks (and feels) like complete kaka. I am looking for another case - probably will have to give up on the solo wallet concept, which is a shame because it was very handy. More

This case provides protection to the sides, corners, and backplate only. Should the phone suffer an impact directly to the screen no protection is provided. More

    Answer

There is a slight lip (tiny!) that will keep the screen of your phone from touching any flat surface on which you set it face down, and will also (probably) keep the glass from hitting any surface from a small drop. However, there is no protection from items in a bag that might scratch the glass on your phone, and little protection from a drop of a few feet. More

  • How easy is it to get the iPhone in and out?

    Answer

sorry, I don't know why I asnswered it with that.

But... the quick answer is... At first, it's quite snug. Just give it a bit of a push at the back where the camera is exposed, and that should give it a bit of a boost for the phone to come out. Over time, it will somewhat loosen up to comfort to the iphone as to be not too snug of a fit but just to be a perfect fit. Other people who have handled it for me didn't have any difficulty getting the phone out. It was just probably me thinking I'll damage it if I put any pressure anywhere on the phone to get it out of the case. More
