    Great For New Drivers

    • Written by from Irvine

This device is incredible. My teenage sister had a major speeding problem. My parents installed a PocketFinder in her car, and set the speed alert to 65mph. They received a text message as soon as she exceeded the speed limit which allowed them to monitor her driving, even when they weren't in the car with her.

My sister's driving habits immediately improved and my parents know she's driving under control and within the speed limit. Parents of teenage drivers will love these devices.

    Great idea!

    • Written by from Jacksonville

Best overall deal I have found, after trying the beta app for the iPhone I've been waiting for this to come out to put on my hot rod so I can keep tabs on it all the time! The speed and zone alert is a really great feature as well, the accuracy on the phone alone was great (within a few feet of where I was standing) and it'll be nice to see not only where my car is-but where it has been. Awesome for Teen Driver

    • Written by from Long Lake

Finally somebody made a device that helps keep my teen driver safe and alerts me when they speed, go past approved area, or get into an accident. Can't wait to try the personal device. Thank you! More

All my cars now have PocketFinders. App is gold!

    • Written by

I originally bought one for my sons car. First for safety as he works late and I also wanted to give him a peer pressure out. Since then I now have one on my car as well as my wife's. I can see where everyone is from my phone at anytime. If someone is driving you see exactly where they are, which direction they are heading and how fast. Zones and speed alerts are easy to set up. I called support and they changed how often my devices track to every 60 seconds at no additional charge. We now use this as a part of our every day life.

One installation tip is to make sure the GPS side is not directly below heavy metal. I connected mine inside the engine compartment of my Range Rover and had to point the antenna towards my headlights. As soon as I pointed it forward and up at about a 45 degree angle its connected perfectly. Good find Apple!!!

The red wire connects to an always on power source for your vehicle and the black wire to a ground. There is an optional third white wire that if connected to a fuse that is hot only when the ignition is on you can track idle time as well as engine on and off start and stop times. Perfect for a business daily activity report and to know if your vehicles are sitting idle for long periods of time in the summer with the air-conditioning on.

Each Locator has an embedded SIM card in it so each device has it's own monthly service charge but you can have as many devices on one account as you'd like. Each Vehicle tracker will come profiled for use in the US and Canada. To add international coverage please call the customer support center at 866-726-7543. A huge benefit of having multiple vehicles or personal locators on one account is to see at a glance where everyone in your family or business is, where they have been and if moving where they are headed. The answer is, it depends. In order for GPS to work, PocketFinder needs to be able to see the sky. So the more windows a structure has, the more likely the device will locate indoors. For instance, my device works well in my house, but I have a lot of windows. If, however, you're in a movie theater or indoor mall, it you might have more trouble receiving a locate.

Also keep in mind that PocketFinder needs cell signal as well, so if you can't send a text message with your phone, then the device probably won't be able to transmit the GPS location.

  • What is the battery draw on this device?

    • Asked by Kyle H from West Chicago
    • May 6, 2012
    Answer

Good question. When the PocketFinder Vehicle isn't locating, the battery draw is 3-4 milliamps per hour. This small amount of drain means that the device should not have a noticeable impact on the battery life of your vehicle or watercraft. More

  • Can the device be mounted anywhere on the vehicle?

    • Asked by Thomas J from Arvada
    • Dec 26, 2011
    Answer

The device needs to be connected to your vehicle's battery and/or your vehicle's fuse box. In theory, once the device is properly connected to a power source, you can place the unit anywhere that doesn't pose a fire or mechanical hazard.

However, it's important to keep in mind that the PocketFinder devices require GPS to work, which means they must be able to communicate with the GPS satellites. Therefore, in order to receive the most accurate locates, the devices should be installed according to the installation guide which can be found on the pocketfinder.com website. Just click on “Vehicles” and then “Installation Guide” at the bottom middle of the page for more information. You can also contact customer service if you have any other questions.

Regardless of where you mount the PocketFinder Vehicle, you should always check the strength of the GPS and cellular connections prior to completing the install. You can do this by viewing the two LED lights on the device. The green light represents the GPS signal and the amber light represents wireless signal. When both lights stop flashing and are solid, you have achieved a successful connection to the networks.
