App controls the WeMo Switch and WeMo Motion.
The iPhone home remote. Control stuff in your home – from anywhere.
Belkin’s new WeMo system is a family of simple, ingenious products that use your iPhone and your home Wi-Fi® network to connect you to the things and people you love. WeMo is your home at your fingertips.
WeMo can control just about anything.
With WeMo you can turn on a light from another room, or turn it off from across town. You can put your home on a schedule—living room lights go on in the evening, kids’ TV goes off at bedtime. You can check to make sure you turned the iron off, after you’ve already left. WeMo Switch is the iPhone home remote.
The Complete WeMo System.
The WeMo App runs on your iPhone and controls any electronic device you plug into a WeMo Switch—if you can plug it in, you can turn it on or off with WeMo. And WeMo Motion lets you control the devices when motion is detected. Have the floor lamp go on when you enter the living room, and turn off when you leave.
WeMo Switch and WeMo Motion are available at major retailers.
The WeMo family of products is great at automating repetitive tasks, and at allowing you to control your household in ways you’d never thought possible.
The beauty of WeMo is it’s completely modular. You can control as much or as little of your home as you like. Control one light, one room, or the whole house. There’s no limit to what WeMo can do. If you can think of it, you can probably do it with WeMo. WeMo is your home at your fingertips.

Simple app controlled outlet

I'm using it to control an air conditioner, so I can turn it on about an hour before I get home, so it'll be nice and cool. Additional security features would be an improvement ... anyone on the same SSID with the WeMo app can control any outlet on that network. …

Secure once married to your wireless network. I wasn't sure it would work away from home, but it works awesome over 3G / 4G with my VPN to home. It is like I am just there at home.
Wish it was a little cheaper in price, but works as advertised. The rules work good. I was worried the app would have to stay open to make it turn on and off with a rule. It looks like the switch has some smarts and knows what time it is.
Now I want about 10 more for the house. …

The device itself is a little bigger than I was expecting, but setup was a lot simpler than expected. I had no problems getting it up and running, nor connecting it with IFTTT, which was a very nice surprise to see. Plain and simple, it's a very simple device with a fair amount of potential. That said, it /is/ a little limited in what it can do right now, hence the 4/5. Other than that, no issues with it at all. …

Great concept, but needs a lot of work.

I bought two switches at my local Apple store and w This could be a great product - but the software is very buggy and unpolished. I bought two switches at my local Apple store and was excited to bring these home and try them out. I setup the first device with little trouble - but it takes an extremely long time "looking for devices" for the device to show up in the list. For a while I thought something was wrong, and then finally it showed up and seemed to work fine. But then it asked me to update the firmware - so I did and that's when everything got really bad.
I waited about 30 minutes but the app still said the 'updating firmware'. So I called Belkin and got someone on the phone and after 30 minutes of resetting with the support guy he just said the device was bricked and that I should return it to the Apple store. So I brought it back to the store and swapped it out for a new one.
When I got home I tried to set up the new device. The app crashed in the middle of the install. Ug. Then I started the app again, and the 'spinner' just kept spinning and after 5 minutes I quit the app and restarted it. Finally it got me back to the list of devices, and after a few more minutes it finally updated and both my switches were there. They seem to work ok now.
But then I went outside and walked a few blocks away so I could still see my window. I wanted to try the remote feature over 4G. That didn't work at all. I tried to refresh the list and then both devices disappeared. I waited a few minutes and nothing. I finally gave up and walked to the store. On the way back I tried again this time the devices showed up and could be remotely switched on/off via 4G. Just very inconsistent.
Now the app asked me to update the firmware again on the switches. Well forget that. I am on the verge of returning both of them. Right now they seem stable but overall a very poor experience - more like beta status - any more trouble and I'm bringing them right back. I'm really disappointed that apple would let such a buggy, beta product into their store. …

Connected to the wifi fine using the limited info in the package but then the app asked to do the firmware update... hours later still not completed. Ok, what now? Tried to unplug and plug back in. Left it trying all day just in case while I looked on the Belkin support site... couldn't find anything closely related to my issue. I found an unrelated issue support page that showed how to do a reset. Sure enough it worked for my problem... now it works well.
To do reset: unplug, press the restore button on top and maintain while plugging back in and hold for about 15sec... wait for reboot and it's ready to use. …
