    Pleasantly Surprised

    • Written by from Cambridge

I'm a college student and I was looking for some desk speakers whose sound could completely fill up an entire large room. I listen to a wide range of music and wanted speakers that could satisfy this. I decided to try out the Bose Companion 20's and despite my skepticism, they perform beautifully. I really like my bass and so I was worried the companion 20's would be lacking in this respect. Turns out that they have plenty enough bass to make me happy. Sure it isn't heart throbbing like you would get from a system with a subwoofer but it certainly is well balanced with the rest of the ranges. The sound quality of the system is amazing. Now I can actually tell which music files are high and low quality. I should mention that I am using these speakers with a MacBook Pro and the setup looks gorgeous. Everything matches perfectly and looks really clean. I would definitely recommend this product! More

    Worth every penny

    • Written by from Welland

I have an extensive digital music collection on my PC, so I wanted a quality upgrade to my old Sony's to listen to my music. At $260, these are certainly not cheap for PC speakers, but of course, you know the old adage, you get what you pay for. These little beauties produce sound at all ranges (even the lows) expertly, without the need for a separate sub-woofer. There is no distortion at higher volumes and no loss of fidelity at lower volumes.

I like the separate 'pod' which controls volume (there are no volumes/power controls on the actual speakers) and with a quick tap, mutes the speakers. You can also connect headphones via the pod or a separate audio source like an iPod.

I believe the Bose Companion 2 (which is their entry level PC speaker) run about $110. I say skip past those and go right to the Companion 20. You won't be disappointed.

    Very clear sound

    • Written by from Firestone

I originally had logitech z-2300 speakers that broke so decided to venture and buy new speakers. I thought the logitech speakers sub woofer was way over active and kind of annoying. So I bought these, and I got to admit, they don't have a sub woofer but they pump out sounds EXTREMELY nice & clean. The base will surprise you and you will definitely hear it!! And it's not over active or late and sounds very very nice. The speakers handle loud volumes very clearly with no breakage of sound, at all.

HOWEVER, these do not include a sub woofer so if you are looking for 15" woofer sounds, these speakers aren't it. But I will definitely keep as a replacement for my THX z-2300 speakers because of the right amount of bass, treble and very clear mid-tones.

    There is a secret...

    • Written by from Nunoa

First of all, sorry for my english. Guys, this companion 20 is a very good speaker system. Solid build, beautiful speakers, a good sound. One big problem: the poor bass. Any solution?... YES!!. Download Boom from Mac App Store. Boom is an utility with an equalizer. You can use it on youtube, itunes, grooveshark, etc. It is a system wide equalizer. Just increase the bass and... OMG!, the sound now is great, with deep bass. ;) More

    overrated

    • Written by from Northolt

I bought the Bose Companion 20's four months ago for my MacBook Pro and I am a bit disappointed. The sound quality on high volume is not that good and not to mention the poor bass which sometimes irritates your ears even at low volume.I am not saying its a bad sound system,I just expected more for the money. My advice is to spend some time in the Bose store and try them few times in a quiet ambience with your own music, before to buy!
    Hope this helped!!!

The Companion 20 loudspeakers are fairly loud, certainly loud enough for filling an average size bedroom or small living space. They are not going to rock a house party full of 18 year old kids or annoy the neighbours much but they will provide a strong performance for near-field listening.

The sound quality is the usual hallmark Bose sound, slightly rolled off treble but otherwise a fairly natural tonal balance. Clarity on the Bose Companion 20 is very good surprisingly - despite it's small size. Bass response is probably equal to that of a small bookshelf speaker. It's still less than a dedicated bass module, but offers more than the Companion 2 or Music Monitor models.

They offer a clear, full and rich sound with exceptional clarity although it does lack some definition in the bass, and is slightly rolled off on the treble but this is sometimes why people prefer to go with Bose (they are less artificial sounding in some respects because they don't have honky highs or rumbling lows that seem so commonplace today).

Overall they sound good, will fill a reasonable size room and provide adequate bass for most styles of music, yes they may be a little expensive but you should ultimately let your ears do the deciding. Go listen to them.

Yes, although you may be at risk of interference from your phone if it's too close, switching to airplane mode would eliminate this (although would also prevent phone calls etc.) or I use my Bose with an Apple Airport Express which lets me use them wirelessly with my iPhone and Mac, meaning the phone doesn't need to be near the speakers and there's no cables that need to go into my iPhone. BOSE seems to tout them as the replacement to the C3s , although you won't get the level of bass that the C3 can produce the sound quality and performance in the C20 is very, very good and arguably slightly better than other BOSE models. More
