The Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor in the Mac Pro is based on the next-generation Intel Core microarchitecture, also known as Nehalem, and includes the following features:

• 8MB of fully shared L3 cache per processor, which boosts performance by keeping data and instructions in a fast-access cache that is available to all four processor cores.
• An integrated memory controller, which allows faster access to data stored in memory by significantly increasing memory bandwidth and reducing memory latency by up to 40%.
• Turbo Boost, a dynamic performance technology that automatically speeds up the cores in use when other cores aren’t needed.
• Hyper-Threading technology allows two threads to run simultaneously on each processor core, providing eight virtual cores for increased performance.

Which processor speed is right for you? The more time you spend using processor-intensive applications — such as video processing, image editing, 3D rendering, and others — the more you’ll benefit from a higher-speed processor.

Because accessing data from memory is much faster than accessing data from the hard drive, the more memory your system has, the faster it can manipulate your data. The result is greater application performance, especially when working with large files and memory-intensive applications such as graphics, audio, video, and scientific applications.

The Mac Pro now uses fast 1066MHz DDR3 ECC SDRAM memory, an advanced memory technology that is not only fast, but also reliable. ECC provides this added layer of reliability by automatically correcting memory errors if they happen to occur.

The Mac Pro features a cable-free, direct-attach drive solution that lets you install and remove hard drives with ease. Drives are attached to simple drive carriers that slide neatly into place — no cables or connectors to hassle with. And removing drives is just as easy. This solution is perfect for sharing drives among different workstations at home or in the studio.

About Serial ATA
In addition to providing up to 4TB of internal storage for your Mac Pro, Serial ATA drives deliver fast read and write performance by spinning at a 7200-rpm rotational speed. To ensure that data is transmitted to the system as quickly as possible, each drive has a dedicated 3Gb/s channel. Perfect for film and video, music, and other drive-intensive operations, multiple Serial ATA drives can be setup in either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration using the software RAID feature built into Mac OS X. For even more data protection and drive I/O performance, add the optional Mac Pro RAID Card.

All-new, high-performance graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD deliver the fastest Mac graphics performance ever. A 16-lane, double-wide PCI Express 2.0 graphics slot supports the latest graphics cards for up to 8 GBps of data throughput. And by supplying up to 300 watts of total power to all PCI Express slots, the Mac Pro provides the headroom for high-performance, next-generation graphics cards.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
Perfect for motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering, or animation, the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory comes standard — and provides greater performance than previous Mac Pro standard graphics. The GeForce GT 120 includes both a Mini DisplayPort and a dual-link DVI port. With up to four GeForce GT 120 graphics cards installed, a Mac Pro can support up to eight 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays.*

ATI Radeon HD 4870
For even greater graphics performance, choose the latest-generation ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB of fast GDDR5 video memory. With massive memory bandwidth and over a TeraFlop of computing power, the Radeon HD 4870 brings advanced performance to graphics-intensive applications such as motion graphics, 3D modeling, rendering, and animation. Connect an Apple 24-inch LED Cinema Display directly to the Mini DisplayPort port or a 30-inch Cinema Display to the Dual-Link DVI port.

Dual-display modes

Each graphics card offers built-in dual-display support in two modes. Extended Desktop mode allows you to work on two monitors at once for increased desktop real estate and enhanced productivity. Video mirroring mode is useful when presenting to groups — the same image that you see on your local display also appears on a projector or auxiliary display. Simply attach two monitors and the Mac OS will recognize both displays. Use the Displays system preference to configure your monitors in either extended desktop or video mirroring modes.

You can attach multiple Apple flat panels with DVI connectors to your Mac Pro graphics card, one directly to the Dual-Link DVI port the other via a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately). A Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is also available. If you have an Apple flat panel with an ADC connector, the optional Apple DVI to ADC Adapter is required (sold separately).

The 18x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) supports both single-layer and double-layer media, capable of holding up to 8.5GB of data on a single disc. It also supports CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW, CDI, CD Bridge, Photo CD, DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, and DVD-R media.

About language options

The language option you choose will affect your keyboard layout and the documentation that comes with your Mac. Mac OS X is a multilingual operating system. This card runs at full bandwidth in a four-lane or eight-lane PCI Express slot.

Quad Channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express Card
This card runs at full bandwidth in an eight-lane PCI Express slot.

Each card ships with two or four 2.9-meter 4Gb Active Copper Fibre Channel SFP to SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) interconnect cables. The cables are used to connect to the SFP port on Fibre Channel storage or switches.

SFP connectors on the card allow use of copper or optical cabling and provide direct connection to Fibre Channel storage or switches over long distances up to 500m.

Notes:

• Installation of an Apple Fibre Channel PCI Express card reclassifies the Mac Pro these systems as FCC Class A devices.
• Optical connection requires SFP transceivers and optical cables.
• The dual-channel or quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel cards occupy one of the available PCI Express slots.

One to One is available only at the time of purchase when you buy a new Mac from the Apple Online Store or an Apple Retail Store.

1. Find an Apple Retail Store.

Make sure there’s a nearby Apple Retail Store where you can attend sessions. See the complete store list

2. Add One to One.

Select One to One along with any other configuration options, then complete your purchase.

3. Activate your membership.

After you complete your order, you'll receive an email from Apple explaining how to get started.
