  • Which U.S. mobile phone carrier provides iPhone service?

    AT&T is the exclusive carrier for iPhone in the U.S. This means that iPhone is configured to work only with wireless service provided by AT&T.

  • Can I buy an iPhone without an AT&T contract?

    No. iPhone requires a two-year AT&T wireless service contract.

  • Does my iPhone come ready to use?

    Yes. Your new iPhone arrives ready to start using it. All you have to do is set it up in iTunes. There’s no need to call or visit a store to get started.

  • Can I get a new iPhone if I already have a contract with AT&T?

    Yes. When you click on Check your eligibility, we’ll review your account to determine your iPhone eligibility and pricing. Some plans may not qualify.

  • I’m already an AT&T customer. What information do I need to provide to buy an iPhone online?

    AT&T requests the following information to determine eligibility for new iPhone service. This type of check will be performed wherever you buy your iPhone — whether it’s from the Apple Online Store, an Apple Retail Store, AT&T, or other retailer.

    • Phone number (current)
    • Billing zip code
    • Last four digits of Social Security number
  • If I’m approved, do I have to buy my iPhone now?

    When you’re approved through the Apple Online Store, you can put an iPhone in your shopping cart and keep it there for up to 30 days. You can also visit an Apple Retail Store to buy your iPhone up to 30 days after you’ve been approved. You can restart the iPhone eligibility process at any time.3

  • Does the iPhone support tethering?

    Yes. You can share the fast 3G connection on your iPhone with your Mac or PC and connect to the Internet from just about anywhere — no Wi-Fi required. Just select the 2GB + Tethering data plan when you set up your AT&T account.

  • Can I transfer my current phone number?

    Yes. Your current phone number is transferred to your new iPhone after you receive your iPhone and set it up in iTunes. Then you can start making calls using your current phone number.

  • Can I use my current rate plan with an iPhone?

    Yes, if you currently use iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, you can keep your current rate plan. But if you have an earlier-generation iPhone or other phone, you may be able to keep your current voice plan, but you are also required to have an iPhone data and messaging plan. Get started by checking your eligibility and reviewing the AT&T rate plans.

  • Can I keep my current AT&T unlimited data plan?

    Yes. If you currently have an unlimited data plan for your current iPhone or other AT&T smartphone, you will be able to keep it when you purchase your new iPhone.

  • I’m a new AT&T customer. What information do I need to provide so I can buy an iPhone online?

    The following billing information will be used to perform a credit check with AT&T:

    • First name
    • Last name
    • Email address
    • Billing address
    • Phone number (current)
    • Social Security number
    • Date of birth
    • Primary place of use

    If you want to transfer an existing phone number, you will also need to provide your account number and password with your current carrier.

  • Can I purchase an iPhone and use it abroad?

    Yes. Outside the U.S., voice and data usage, including data usage incurred by Visual Voicemail messages, is charged at international rates. AT&T offers four discount international data packages that can significantly reduce the cost of using data abroad.

  • How do I decide which data plan to select?

    AT&T offers two 3G data plans for new iPhone customers. For $15 a month, the DataPlus plan offers 200 megabytes of data; for $25 a month, the DataPro plan offers 2 gigabytes of data. If you’re an existing iPhone user, you can find out how much data you've downloaded in previous months by logging into your AT&T Wireless account. Or you can estimate how much data you might use by visiting the AT&T Data Calculator and entering information such as how many emails and web pages you view in an average month.
