Gaming on the Mac? Yes
I never considered a Mac for playing games. What games are out there for Mac?
You picked a perfect time to become a Mac gamer. Top game developers and distributors, including Electronic Arts, Aspyr, Feral Interactive, MacSoft Games, and MacPlay are bringing their very best titles to the Mac. Popular titles such as Guitar Hero, Spore, and Age of Empires III are already rocking the Mac platform — and many more are on the way.
Maxing out Mac gaming
What else do I need for the ultimate gaming experience?
Crank up the fun with gamer tools like gaming mice, gaming controllers, and the right set of speakers — and get ready to take your games to a whole new level.
During intense game play, a gaming mouse will help you stay on top of the high-speed action. A gaming mouse offers faster response time and acceleration, allowing you to move about the game quickly and precisely. The gaming mouse is usually more ergonomically correct than an everyday mouse, offering high levels of comfort for hours of enjoyment and reducing the chance of injury.
Hardcore gamers often use dedicated devices such as game pads and controllers to enhance their gaming skills. Features like tactile feedback, joystick functionality, ergonomic grip, and programmable keys give you the upper hand in conquering your games.
Nothing puts you in the middle of the action like being surrounded by crisp, thundering audio. A great pair of gaming desktop speakers is a great place to start. Or move up to five speakers, plus a dedicated subwoofer to enhance the bass, and feel your game come to life around you.
How can I turn my Mac into the perfect gaming machine?
For the best gaming on your Mac, come prepared. Check the system requirements for each game in the Apple Online Store. Since many games rely on abundant RAM and fast processors, it’s a good idea to make sure your computer is well above the minimum requirements.
Inadequate RAM and/or a slower processor can make your game look choppy and perform sluggishly. Many visually detailed games require a dedicated graphics card on your machine to render smooth, lifelike images. Without a dedicated graphics card, certain games may not be compatible with your machine, or may play at a sub-par level.
iPhone and iPod can play, too
What about my iPod or iPhone? Can I game on them?
Absolutely. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, hundreds of great games are available right at your fingertips. Apple’s App Store allows you to search, browse, and download amazing games directly to your device. The App Store will even alert you if your game has a new update, making sure you are always up to date with all of the games and enhancements available.
For those of you who have a video-capable iPod nano, iPod classic, or 5th generation iPod with video, hundreds of exciting games are available to you via Apple’s iTunes software already on your computer. Simply connect to the iTunes Store, search or browse through the library of games, and download. Your game will be automatically synced to your iPod the next time it syncs with iTunes.
Windows games on the Mac
My favorite game isn’t available for the Mac. What can I do?
You can still play it on the Mac, just not with Mac OS X. By using Boot Camp, which comes with Mac OS X Leopard, and your own copy of Windows, you can boot into Windows and play your Windows-based game right on your Mac. If you prefer, you can also use VMware’s Fusion or Parallels Desktop for Mac to run Windows games on your Mac without rebooting.
The game has only begun
The list of games for Mac is amazing. Are there more games coming?
Yes. Apple and top games producers such as EA Games and Aspyr are joining forces to bring more of your favorite new games to the Mac platform. Keep checking back and watch the latest games being built for Mac.
