    Flawed product

    • Written by from Swindon

Echoing so many of the other reviews here - I bought one of these (Apple store, Portland OR), and it worked great for about 10 days. Now, however, it won't charge (or at least, report a charge) beyond 3 or 4%, and I get constant "mouse battery low" notifications and random disconnections.
As a concept, great. As an implementation - second rate. I expected better; don't Apple do basic quality screening on products they stock in their stores?

    Great....at first.....then....not so much

    • Written by from Brentwood

I usually wait on reviews as a product may work great for the first little while - but what I am most interested in - is the long term viability for a product....and this one fails miserably..

ok...so nothing lasts forever....everyone gets that....but i would expect this product to last at LEAST 2 years.....I've had mine for just a smidge over a year and now.....DEAD. Won't hold a decent charge - constantly losing connection and flashing the battery symbol in the bluetooth icon.

i have a 5 year old blackberry that holds a better charge than this.

    It frequently disconnects

The product would be perfect if it worked well. It keeps disconecting all the time.
And I'm having trouble to charge it. I never have 100% charged.

Charges best with battery out of mouse...

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

...yet never seems to reach a full charge. I've never seen higher than 85% even when it was new and I let it charge overnight.

Had the mouse for about 2 months or so, and the highest I'm able to charge now is 82% with zero use, out of the mouse, roughly 14 hours charging. Battery runs down quickly with use. I'll be at half charge by the end of today. Disappointing.

2 star rating: 1 for the fact that it basically works and 1 for the design idea.

Great at first, but fails over time

    • Written by from Cottage Grove

I bought this charger at the Apple Store in May 2012. Since then, the occasional disconnects were because of low battery charge, and putting the mouse back on the charger always resolved those disconnect issues. In late December 2013, the disconnects became constant and the computer was almost unusable. No amount of recharging would help as the battery level % was pretty high. There had always been a lot of scratching on the bottom of this battery pack, but as I looked a bit closer, the battery pack was sagging so much I am not sure the mouse was making proper connections anymore. Too bad, it seemed like a great idea, but with less than 2 years of personal use, the battery pack is shot.

A nice idea but not worth the trouble.

    • Written by from Calgary

If you're going to use this battery pack in your magic mouse, keep a lot of batteries or a corded backup handy.

    PROS:
You will feel good about being environmentally friendly.
You will feel good imagining never buying batteries again.

    CONS:
You will never consistently return the mouse to the charging pad after using it.
Your mouse will die and then you will have no mouse.
Your mouse will die at the most inopportune times.
The battery pack will swell and bulge and begin to scuff after a few months.
The flimsy metal around the clasp will snap in two places.
You will end up buying batteries anyway.
You will end up connecting a second corded mouse as a backup.

    Very Sketchy Product

    • Written by from Spring Branch

The Mobee battery pack and bottom cover are molded together and replace the existing magic mouse battery compartment cover. The tab/lock on the first MObee battery pack unit I received, bent when I installed it and the battery pack would not fit in the battery compartment snugly. After reinserting the battery pack, the tab/lock snapped off, which meant the battery pack wouldn't stay in place at all.

I reported this to Mobee and they sent me a new unit quickly - good customer service.

The second Mobee battery pack worked for about a year and a half, but the tab/lock periodically worked itself loose and the battery pack wouldn't stay put. Additionally, when the battery pack was loose, the mouse tracking would respond erratically - which came to be the sign that the battery pack was loose. So, after about a year and a half of reseating the battery pack, the battery pack cover broke and rendered it useless.

After that bad experience, I went back to the original Apple battery plate cover and rechargeable batteries - Ahhhh, no more problems. As such, I could never recommend anyone purchase this device because it is completely unreliable and irritating to maintain - at least that was my experience.

This is awesome for about 6 months then the battery starts to not last that long. Just like anything has to be replaced. Note: might have been cheaper to buy normal AA batteries.

    Not for me

    • Written by from Palm Springs

I received this for Christmas as a gift. Both my wife and I thought it was a great idea to help save the environment from more land fill of alkaline batteries.
My first impression was it is heavier than using the AA batteries. You have to turn it off and on to get the correct battery level in the System Preferences and it is still not correct, it never reaches 100%. It is not easy to install or remove from the back. Maybe because of the weight. I am sorry but I think this product although a good idea is not for me. Too many issues for the benefits.

    Nice idea, mediocre product

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

The problem with the Apple Magic Mouse is that the batteries go weak and then die out in a way that is inconvenient and frustrating. The solution offered by the Mobee Magic Charger offers a lot of promise, but ultimately fell short of even my modest expectations. Everything about the product's concept and design is impressive, but after several weeks of use, the charger's battery can't seem to hold any power. I gave up on it and it is now less functional than a paperweight, sitting on the charging pad. The manufacturer website says this product can power a mouse for six days without charging. I've had it sitting on my charging pad for six days and the battery level remains steady at 11% and green light is still blinking. I've gone back to a wired mouse because when I'm using a computer the last thing I need to pay attention to is whether my mouse is going to work.

    Garbage

The unit is terrible. It takes forever to charge and does not last very long. The battery that it comes with hardly fits the mouse. I put the unit and when I tried to remove it, it would not come out. I ended up damaging my mouse just to remove it

    Not a snug fit

    • Written by from Dubai

Since no one else reported this problem, it appears to be particular to some units only. In the unit I bought, the battery pack does not snugly fit into the magic mouse, which results in random on/off of the mouse because of the battery unit loose fit. This renders the unit pretty unusable!

good up close, terrible at 5ft or greater

    • Written by from HUMBLE

I've had the battery pack and charger for approximately 6 months and have a hate-love relationship with it. If i leave the mouse on my desk it normally works fine; if i sit in my recliner (5 1/2 ft from MAC) to watch movies and intend on using the mouse I have to either use an alternative input device (another mouse, keyboard or apple pad) or be ready to fidget with the bottom of the mouse to make it reconnect. The mouse will stay connected for a few minutes but then loses the connection and i have to push, pull or reseat the battery to make it reconnect. Gets very frustrating and want to throw it out the window most of the time! Doesn't always charge either with LED staying red even after an all-night charge.

You Need 2 Battery Packs To Use This

    • Written by from San Jose

Lucky for me they accidentally shipped two of these to me instead of just the one that I ordered and thank goodness they did! You can only charge the mouse battery when it's plugged in the computer. The only time my computer is on is when I'm using it with my mouse. So I always have that second battery charged and ready to go thanks to their mistake. If I only had one battery, I'd be up a creek when the battery dies, and that's quite often. This would be an excellent product if they included a wall charger. Serious design flaw.

Work when it works, but disconnects after a bump

    • Written by from PROSPECT BAY

I have had my Mobee Magic Charger for 2 weeks now, it seemed to work pretty good, but it was disconnecting from my MacBook Pro every so often.
I found the problem to be, when the mouse was bumped or taped to hard, it would disconnect every time.
I tried cleaning the contacts but that made no difference.
Worse than that, if you take the Mobee battery pack out more than 3 times the little tiny plastic lock breaks.
Also I found that the charge was good but not as long as a decent set of batteries.
    DON'T BUY ONE!!!!

    Great Idea, Bad Engineering

    • Written by from CARROLLTON

I absolutely love the concept and enjoyed the mouse for the short time it worked. The battery pack started popping loose thereby causing the mouse to lose its connection with the computer. I constantly had to reseat the battery pack and reconnect it with the computer via SETTINGS. I finally gave up and called Apple. Being inside of the return window, I am sending it back and hoping for a redesign by Mobee. I suggest an AC/USB charger be added to allow for charging separate from the computer.

    Cheap

    • Written by from Watkinsville

The cover for the battery compartment for the Magic mouse is made of a fairly sturdy piece of what I would guess is aluminum. You remove this piece and the batteries and insert the rechargeable battery from the Mobee. The part of the Mobee that essentially replaces the battery compartment cover is cheap and flimsy plastic. The portion of this that is up against the rechargeable batter is fine. The other part however, the part that locks into the mouse is subject to damage that the regular cover would be unlikely to sustain. I inserted the battery and close the case and the Mobee did not "turn on" the mouse. So I put it back on the charger to see if it was charged and it was. I popped the battery back out to make sure I seated it properly and upon my reinstall, the tab on the cover that goes over the black latch essentially snapped making it impossible to firmly seat the batteries in the device. Great idea, cheap execution.
