The battery pack provides about 20 hours of use from the Shuffle. I have only managed to drain the battery in my Shuffle once so far but I had this with me so the music went on uninterrupted. Pay no attention to the people that say it will damage your iPod Shuffle- it has the same small ball-bearing clips inside as the USB cap does. Putting this on and taking it off of your Shuffle is HARMLESS. The ONLY thing that could make this better would be if it were $15 instead of $29.

I purchased it because the local Apple Store indicated that it will run the Shuffle even after it's internal battery is no longer capable of holding a charge. So, you never need to worry about exchanging the Shuffle just to get the internal battery replaced, it will run on the external pack regardless. It is a little heavy but not enough to discourage its use. Nice job Apple.

After having some problems at first with the iPod going nuts when I plugged it in (orange/green blinking, firmware corruption not caused by the accessory was the cause) it was very nice! the added neck lanyard makes this a very stylish item. Even going around my college campus, people are asking me where I got this little gem.

If you have one of these almost-vintage music sticks, I suggest you definitely get one of these while Apple still has them in stock.

Got the external b I bought my iPod shuffle when they first came out (Jan 2005) and the internal battery no longer holds a charge. Got the external battery pack so I can continue using my shuffle. Works with NiMH AAA's. Only problem is you have to unplug and replug the shuffle before turning on the shuffle and it resets to the start of the playlist instead of picking up where you left off. This is because a working internal battery is needed to remember its previous state. Not perfect but at least I can still use my shuffle forever.
