I already had the 2008 version of Microsoft Office for Mac, which was much better by the way. The 2008 version included Entourage (email), and this 2011 version gives the impression it includes Outlook, but it's only the icon, and when you click it prompts you to purchase it separately. Microsoft Word is temperamental and doesn't always give you time to save before crashing. I didn't use PowerPoint or Excel, so I can't comment on those. By the way, why aren't we allowed to purchase Microsoft Word by itself? It would be great to have that option since some of us don't need the other applications... Do yourself a favor and buy iWorks or the 2008 version of Microsoft Office. …

Sage advice: hit the save button frequently or you will lose hours of work. Since I need to edit a lot I have gone back to a cheap PC. …

Having shifted from the PC world for my academic work I really wanted Office 2011 to just do what I needed. As others have commented though, the devastating and frequent crashes make it unusable for anything important. Inserting pictures, tables, figures etc seem to be particularly likely to cause a crash which can often corrupt your document beyond recovery. …

You only need to install the softwa Congratulations on switching over to bright side of the road!
You only need to install the software once and all users on the iMac will have access to the programs. Even though there are two users, the Microsoft Office serial number will cover one machine, and does not correlate to the amount of users on the iMac.
Each user will also be able to save their own documents in their respective user account and only that user will have access to them. Each user can share chosen documents through various solutions, like dropbox or copy- among many others that I will not go into now, but each user is completely separate like they are on two different computers.
Hope this helps! …
