    Best router I ever had

    • Written by from Cary

It took 10 minutes to make it work (including unpacking, plugging and typing in passwords for new network from my iPad). Network speed is amazing: both on WiFi and gigabit LAN ports. Internal disks are mapped as network shares so you can easily access from any mac/*nix/windows machines.
The only minor issue I've met: plastic legs at the bottom are sliding on my table so I have to place the device in secured position to avoid accidental drop.

    excellent but not perfect

    • Written by from Makkah

the device is excellent, i have tested with my new macbook air with ac wifi. the back up speed is amazingly fast, even faster than USB external drives.
the issue is that you can not access the file from the net. so i need to buy another WD book live duo only for the net access to the photo and movie files that i have.
apple should really consider the net access to the files

Be careful when you open the box

    • Written by from Kanata

The unit is sitting on a very shallow base. When I slide the top off, it fell off from the base because there is nothing to hold it. Testing the HDD now.

This has to be the worst designed packaging from apple.

Other than that, it works fine.

    Great Upgrade!

Originally I had the older model of time capsule. This upgrade was certainly satisfying! Set-up is easy, automatically backs up my computer and the internet is much faster!

Worthy upgrade over prior models, flawed product packaging

    • Written by from RICHMOND

This is a very well-designed Wi-Fi router and backup device that is extremely easy to set up and to configure both on Macs and Windows. Via the included app, it basically sets itself up automatically after you input your desired Wi-Fi network name and password. There are of course also advanced options which you may set manually if you desire to.

This Time Capsule performs better than the prior version, even without 801.11ac devices in the network. With 802.11ac devices, it will be even faster.

This contains more antennas inside the device than prior versions and also incorporates beamforming for faster wifi. The antennas sit higher and off the table top in the device which aids performance as well. When using my wifi network, things are noticeably more speedy than before.

The design and foot print is also an improvement. It takes up less space on your desk or shelf since it has a smaller footprint, even though it's taller. And, I like the look of it better than prior versions as well.

I also really like the fact that the built in hard drive can backup more than one computer on the Wi-Fi network, and it does this wirelessly (or wired). Now all the computers in my household can always be backed up with ease!

A note about the product box: be careful opening the box, if you have it at an angle while pulling the lid off, the device will fall out and could be damaged. Also, after unboxing it, you cannot replace the base of the box because it will get stuck inside the box and be very difficult to remove after that. I recommend you put the base in sideways if you want to store the box. You will see what I mean after you get this item.

In summary, Apple has another winner in this latest version of the Time Capsule! This is a worthy upgrade from prior versions, even if you don't yet have any 802.11ac devices since it also works with 802.11a/b/g and n devices, and you will be ready for any future 802.11ac device that you may get, which is the new standard.

    All in One

    • Written by from Alameda

I am very happy that Apple developed a unit that is both a router and external storage device. This serves two purposes. The familiar "Time Machine" is now harmoniously united with this new "Time Capsule" syncing and backup is seamless and practical.

Speed is only enhanced by a device that supports the new "AC" bandwidth. Either way, even with b/g/n you will notice an improvement.

The only critique I must include is the inability to remotely access files or media from storage. There are currently no method to stream and access such data via IOS AP or any third party portal.

In conclusion, if you like a device that is both storage and router, in one. This is the best product available.

    Amazing!

    • Written by from Worcester

I had a top of the line Linksys router before I upgraded. It would get chocked up, and it would reduce my bandwidth to a crawl if I had more than a few devices on the network. The Airport Time Capsule gives me amazing speed, even with over 20 devices connected!

NEW TIME CAPSULE IS A BEAST!

    • Written by from Houston

I had a new Airport Extreme and Airport Express (both bought within the last year) that were bridged together in my apartment. The Airport Extreme had to be plugged directly into my Xbox for a strong connection, and the Airport Express range was mediocre at best (I have concrete walls in my apartment which have always been a problem).

This new Airport Time Capsule has allowed me to get rid of both Airports, AND the signal is strong without a direct connect to my Xbox. The strength of the signal is as powerful as they say! Best router I have ever seen, by a long shot.

    Simply fantastic!

    • Written by from Flower Mound

I have owned MANY WiFi routers over the years and this Airport Time Capsule is by far the best. I’ve seen complaints that it is too expensive, however if you were to purchase another high end WiFi router and a 2TB external drive it would cost you well over $300. Super easy to configure yet has the key configuration options you need such as port forwarding and WPS setup for printers. It was easy to extend my network to a second Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility, just a few clicks and I have excellent coverage in all parts of a large one story home.

    Great Router, huge update.

    • Written by from Cloverport

It works very well, and with the new taller design and ability to send extra "waves" to where your device is, it's great. Also, if you have an older one and are upgrading, I suggest using your old one to extend the network.

Excellent range, speed and ease of backup make this a WINNER!

    • Written by from Homer Glen

I had only purchased the previous model a few months ago, I decided over the weekend that I would purchase the new MacBook Air, so I wanted to get the newer AirPort with the AC wireless speed to match. We have a 9000 sft home so I use a few airport express units to spread coverage. I unplugged the previous AirPort Extreme and plugged in my new AirPort Time capsule 2T, at first the airport express units were not found so I completed a hard reset (small button on back of unit) and restarted the set-up. The units were found and added easily and the system is now running. Even without using the new MacBook Air with AC the router seems faster (getting WIFI speeds of 17mbps from an 18mbps measured on hard-wire)

Excellent system, Apple I need you to come out with a smart home system now to tie all of this together!

    Replaces 1TB TC.

    • Written by from MILLINGTON

Connect, plug it in and it just works. I have 4 AP expresses on my network for music and 3 of 4 were recognized right away. Fourth I unplugged and plugged back and it showed up in AP Utilty.

Although not faster because I don't have wifi AC equipped devices, the connection was much better.
Time Machine BU of my iMac took only 2+20. The old TC took over nite.

Backing up MBAir now... Looks fast also.

Here's hoping that the new iPads, iPhones will have this faster wifi standard

    Great Wireless Router

    • Written by from Hooksett

I just picked this up today as a replacement for my airport extreme gen. 5. Setup was incredibly easy, less than 15 minutes even with the firmware update. I did not even have to reset the airport express that is also on the same network. This is a noticeable improvement in speed over the airport extreme I replaced. The signal beaming seems to be very effective. Glad I purchased this.

    Very impressed

    • Written by from Temecula

Bought the new TC 2GB tonight to support 802.11AC on my new MBA when it will arrive early next week. I already have 3 routers at home, 1 from Verizon FIOS and 2 Linksys E1200 as 1 router doesn't cut it in the house.
Setup was extremely easy, I have a MacPro with no wireless connected to one of the LAN ports, it took ~ 1 min and airport utility popped up and it took ~ 2 min to go through all menus and set the router up. It automatically set up in bridge mode which is exactly what I wanted, as I want all my computers on the same subnet.
Performance on my MacPro (wired) appears to be slightly better.

So far very happy with my purchase, now I can't wait to get my new MBA to have a real speedy wireless network ...

    Fantastic Router

    • Written by from East Patchogue

Excellent speeds and range. I have a very tight area in same area as my AV equipment (not optimal for range) and I get full bars all over my house in N-speeds. Once new MacBook Pros come out, I will get full advantage of ac, but still with internet speeds at 55/8, I'm sure the difference will not be fully realized. The one hiccup I did have was when I had everything hardwired with a 8 port switch, I needed to renew the DHCP lease, and now everything over ethernet is working just like before. Another excellent piece of hardware from the best!

    Excellent upgrade from previous generation

    • Written by from BROAD BROOK

This is my fourth Time Capsule since they were first introduced and, so far, it is definitely the best. Significant improvement in both WiFi range and speed. Right now I am getting throughput of 450 on 802.11n with my MacBook Pro Retina 15 and right next to it am getting 850 on the new .ac standard with my new MacBook Air 11. Also the form factor and design are top-notch. The TC looks very impressive on my desk and I heartily endorse springing for the new model.

Great Range, super easy to set up...

    • Written by from Greenwich

I tried FOUR different routers to replace my 500gig time capsule to get a better signal. No luck. I was about to settle for the n spec dark knight, when this week, BANG a new TC. I'll try it, I thought and I'm glad I did. Better range, no dead spots and 2 tb backup for $299 instead of separate router and hd for $280. Thanks again Apple.

    Spectacular Bandwidth Improvement!

    • Written by from ROCKAWAY

I am getting ~4x bandwidth improvement close by but we have a 100 year old house with wire mesh lath and plaster walls and this new antenna array appears significantly less able to penetrate these walls than the last generation Airport/Time Capsule.
