Best Time Capsule and Air Port Base

    • Written by from Austin

The main purpose for this purchase was the better distance antenna. It impressed me, I'm so happy Apple makes great products that just work. The migration from my old Time Capsule was seamless and fast and intuitive. Definitely recommend, I can be out at pool in the back yard with great connection and speed.

    Very impressed

Bought the new TC 2GB tonight to support 802.11AC on my new MBA when it will arrive early next week. I already have 3 routers at home, 1 from Verizon FIOS and 2 Linksys E1200 as 1 router doesn't cut it in the house.
Setup was extremely easy, I have a MacPro with no wireless connected to one of the LAN ports, it took ~ 1 min and airport utility popped up and it took ~ 2 min to go through all menus and set the router up. It automatically set up in bridge mode which is exactly what I wanted, as I want all my computers on the same subnet.
Performance on my MacPro (wired) appears to be slightly better.

So far very happy with my purchase, now I can't wait to get my new MBA to have a real speedy wireless network ...

    Fantastic Router

    • Written by from East Patchogue

Excellent speeds and range. I have a very tight area in same area as my AV equipment (not optimal for range) and I get full bars all over my house in N-speeds. Once new MacBook Pros come out, I will get full advantage of ac, but still with internet speeds at 55/8, I'm sure the difference will not be fully realized. The one hiccup I did have was when I had everything hardwired with a 8 port switch, I needed to renew the DHCP lease, and now everything over ethernet is working just like before. Another excellent piece of hardware from the best!

Ready to give up on time capsule!

    • Written by from Dallas

I am not really enjoying my time capsule! The 1st one that I purchased the Wi-Fi was faster than the cable modem that came with my service but as soon as I tried to back up one of my Mac it stop at 15% and said hard disk is damage and needs repair. I took that one back the next day to my local Apple store where they swapped it out when I told the associate what had happen she stated to back up my Mac’s for the first time via Ethernet. Once I set up the new time capsule it had a hard time staying connected with my internet and I got the say error again (hard disk needs repair) even with me trying the Ethernet back up.
So back to the Apple store I go!!!!

    Not ready for prime time

    • Written by from Round Rock

It works well when it works, but almost daily, often more than once a day, the time machine fails with a variety of error messages: disk not available, not enough space on the disk, changed identity (what could that mean?), or just "failed".

It's WAY too much trouble for the price.

I don't usually write reviews but i just purchased this and I love it. I am happy I bought it because the reviews almost deterred me. It's only the first day, but it works great. Easy set up, no problems at all.

    Great product

I have an iMac from 2006, a Mac mini and ipads. By adding this one i could backup the old machine, got a better looking faster acces point and it even shares files. I do not need to get a separate server. Incredibly easy to install, but still includes the important safety features. Great product - thank you Apple

    Best Router purchased.

    • Written by from Comox

I purchased the Time Capsule 2TB about a month ago and I am very happy with it. The signal is great and the wireless works on every device I own with no additional setup (MacBook Pro, iPhone 5, iPad3, Sony Ericcson Xpheria, xBox360 slim.) The harddrive on it is also very reliable and easy to connect to. It took me a second to find it as it shows up in the shared are in Finder instead of as it's own icon on the desktop. So, my one and only complaint. The harddrive is slow. I read a little about this being the case online and it does have some fair points. That being said, this is not such a huge problem for me personally so I am still very happy with it. 4 out of 5 stars, only for the slow harddrive.

For years we suffered with a router that required daily rebooting. The Time Capsule does its job all day, every day. You do nothing.

We have Comcast service and the measured speed on Apple devices has gone from 7 MB down to a blazing 50 Mbps. Wireless range has improved and setup is a snap.

Yes, it's a tad pricy, but you get what you pay for. Get one and enjoy it.

    Great Wireless Router

    • Written by from Hooksett

I just picked this up today as a replacement for my airport extreme gen. 5. Setup was incredibly easy, less than 15 minutes even with the firmware update. I did not even have to reset the airport express that is also on the same network. This is a noticeable improvement in speed over the airport extreme I replaced. The signal beaming seems to be very effective. Glad I purchased this.

Constant connection problems with my Macbook air in any kind of OS for several months, no solution. Go buy something else, doesn't worth it.

    Excellent Router and Back-Up

    • Written by from Harvest

Great and simple user experience. Plug it in, select it on your computer, assign password, done. Even though it was big (200+ Gigs) first back up over wi-fi, that went seamlessly in approx. four hours.

Time Capsule saves me data on my cell phone carrier: Previously my kids on the other end of the house would lose the wi-fi signal and their phones would revert to cellular data. With the AirPort time Capsule they now get 3 or 4 bars and wi-fi is never dropped. Download speeds are fine, have not even bothered hard wiring the unit to my 5K Retina iMac as originally planned.

    Frustrating

    • Written by from SILVERTON

So disappointed. Yes it works great as a backup storage. Yes it has great connectivity. Wanted both backup and to be able to move files over to as well. Could have bought another brand 2T wifi hard drive for less money that would allow me to back up AND store files. Why does apple make some things so difficult? Just like you cannot move photos to iCloud. People really want to save their photos in other places beside a flash drive and or on laptops.

I love this router. My signal has become more stable and stronger. I now have access to my Wi-Fi everywhere in the house. The time capsule is working seamlessly and I couldn't be happier. Is it expensive? Yes however the payoff has been well worth it.

    Works well so far

    • Written by from Brownstown

    Fast = yes
    Easy = yes
Can it host files like a NAS = yes
To set this up you just have to log onto the router from each Mac computer

What would make this better? = convenient local sync like a personal cloud such as drop box or sugar sync

I'm still working on how to network attach a USB printer...

    Fast and Easy

    • Written by from Sonoma

I needed a backup for my Mac and went with Time Capsule. I thought I would use my current Airport Extreme as an extender to improve signal in the farthest room in my house. The 811.ac technology was a nice-to-have for future upgrades.

As a router, this thing really flies. Fast and strong coverage across the wide angle I need. I don't really need to use my Airport Extreme as an extender. The directional antenna feature (I think) only works with the 811.ac devices, but no worries, my current devices work great.

As for the Time Machine, the set up was so easy I was kinda disappointed I didn't get to play with it more. The application figured everything out for me and I was up and running in no time. I added a scheduling app from the App Store for $4 so that the backups would be done at night. The default setting is pretty aggressive with hourly backups.

All in all, couldn't ask for more.

Easy setup and powerful and fast wi-fi!

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

I purchased this to replace my old 1TB AirPort, the one with the low profile. This current model is exponentially better. They've added antennas, changed it to a vertical profile (with the antennas at the top - better to transmit and receive) and paired it with VERY easy network setup in the current Mavericks OS. I had it all set up and working within a couple of minutes of getting it out of the box. The frustration I had with the old model was that the wi-fi signal, although strong, seemed to choke the speed of my connection. This current model is insanely powerful - I'm loading web pages on my iOS devices without any delay. Streaming to those devices is seamless. And the range is far better than before - it covers all of my property, making repeaters unnecessary for the first time. If you're also replacing an older AirPort, you could probably use the older model as a repeater - but I didn't have to. I use the AirPort's wi-fi signal instead of my wireless router's signal, because it's far more powerful.

And, of course, the whole Time Machine backup is seamless - as usual. I couldn't be happier.

Airport Time Capsule 2TB Works Great

    • Written by from lynchburg

I replaced a top of the line Netgear wireless router with the Airport Time Capsule 2TB in order provide a backup device for our family of Macbook Pros/Airs. It has worked fabulously since coming out of the box. It provides super fast streaming on multiple devices and works seamlessly with Time Machine to back everything up on our computers. The range is impressive as well. I absolutely love it!
