I am a student and I was studying during finals week when the charger decided to break on me. Talk about the worst timing in the world. I was so stressed already and I didn't know I had to worry about my computer charger. I love the computer so much, why would I assume that the charger would be an issue? So flimsy it broke very easily. Never actually wind it around the charger, even though thats what it is advertised to do.

    Faulty Adapter

    • Written by from South Riding

This is my THIRD power adapter. The first one just stopped working. The second one overheated causing frayed, black, burnt, exposed wires. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the product. Until Apple designs another power cord that does not require me to buy one every year, I will not be purchasing another MacBook.

    Falls apart after a year

    • Written by from Elgin

For a $2000 computer, I expect the charger to last more than a year. As many of the other reviewers noted, my charger also frayed where the cable connects to the box and no longer works. Unacceptable for an apple product; after 2+ years of bad reviews I'd expect that this should have been taken care of by now.

    Utter garbage!

    • Written by from Hillsborough

Wow, I thought that Dell made junk power supplies. This thing didn't last a year before the ground shield started to separate. You'd figure after seeing so many negative comment that Apple would step up and fix this piece of junk. Too bad the laptop is nice.

60W MagSafe 2 power adapter for my 13" MacBook (late 2016)

    • Written by from Tallahassee

This power adapter was purchased in Sept 2006 with my new 13" MacBook and finally died in April 2015 of a shorted out grounding shield. The adapter was not attached to the laptop when it shorted and began smoldering. I suppose 9 years is pretty good longevity on the device, but I am glad we smelled the burning before it caught the house on fire. Never leave this product plugged in and unattended while you are out of the house. Unplug it unless you are close by to keep an eye on it.

    Worst charger ever

    • Written by from Toronto

I take very special care of my MBP charger as I have had painful experiences with Mac chargers for the past 10 years. I never wind it up too tight and always make sure to leave some slack. However, I'm still finding that after 2 years of purchasing my MBP Retina, the plastic around the wire has started tearing. Very soon I will have a lot of problems with charging it which is such a headache. A power adapter should last at least 4-5 years.

    The worst

    • Written by from North Kingstown

Once again, Apple offers another terrible charger. These break just as often as their phone chargers do. Convinced Apple makes these out of the worst materials so their customers have to continue buying things from them. You'd think after spending $3,000 on my Macbook pro I would receive a quality charger, thanks again, Apple.

Not perfect but far from terrible

    • Written by from Ottawa

Just had to write a positive review. I've had mine for nearly 2 years without a failure. My wife and I have owned 4 MacBooks (Air and now Pro) over the past few years. We tend not to travel with our MacBooks, so the chargers stay plugged in at home the majority of the time. If you're like us, you could expect the same. The batteries have improved so much over the years that we charge them when not in use... usually overnight. We also have a Thunderbolt display and use it as an alternate charging location.

Anyway, all that to say that your mileage will vary. Just expect that anything that gets plugged and unplugged daily will wear... no matter who makes it. If you don't like it, buy another product and vote with your dollars. I have, and am happy with my Apple products... not planning on going back to Windows any time soon.

    Faulty power adapters!

    • Written by from Richmond

I purchased my MacBook Pro in 2012. It is still going strong. On the other hand I have now had 2 and need a third power adapter. I would rate the power adapter lower but that is not possible. I love apple products, but you would think that Apple would be able to make a power adapter that would last longer than a month or two. Maybe the developers could work on this.

    Insulation Fraying at One Year

    • Written by from Kirkwood

I have always been gentle with the cord. The tightest it has ever been wound is in the original packaging. Yet before even one year of use the insulation developed at least three different areas that were progressively disintegrating (nearest to the magsafe2 connector is about 4 inches). This is an obvious material problem and manufacturing defect. The Apple store was gracious enough to replace it one year and two weeks after I purchased my laptop, but I'm still worried about the quality of the replacement, if I'll have to buy one in another years time, and whether it presents an electrical/fire hazard in my home.

This is the worst charger I have ever had from apple!
After finally coming out with a flushed charge connection to

such a let down for a great laptop.

    Where's the Love?

    • Written by from Chilliwack

I've had my Macbook Air for nearly two years now and I'm still going strong with the original charger. I'm not entirely sure what's with all the negative reviews. When I owned PC's, I went through replacement chargers every three months or so, I know pretty much every way to destroy a charger, but I've met my match with this one. Yes from time to time if I sit cross legged with my laptop on my lap, my leg will knock the charger out of place, but when my nephew think's it's funny to push the brick of my charger off the table, I'm glad my laptop doesn't go down with it.

    Utter Waste of Money

    • Written by from Dubai

Come on Apple, you need to fix this. I've had mine for FOUR MONTHS and it's time for a replacement. It still works fine, but the cable sheath has degraded so badly at both ends that the wire is fraying. After FOUR MONTHS. That's absolutely appalling. Apple, you need to start offering free charger replacements to people who have already spent obscene amounts of money on your laptops.

    Apple should be ashamed

    • Written by from New York

This is the worst device ever. They're big/clunky, expensive and completely unreliable. And while Apple will replace them if you're under warranty, they treat the replacement process as if there's some technical issue that needs to be resolved. In my latest episode with these awful devices, I had endure a useless phone call and then schedule an appt. at the "genius" bar. A complete waste of time.

My advice to Apple: If you're not going to design a quality product, you should keep a basket of free replacements near the entrance of the Apple store. That way, people wouldn't have to waste their time doing what every other retail store in the country figured out long ago. Shame on Apple.

I have had to purchase 3 chargers in the last 2.5 years. The last charger I bought just broke and I therefore need to resort to purchasing a 4th charger... I am extremely disappointed with Apple's attention to detail with this accessory. It costs 100 dollars US for each one of these junky, garbage, inferior, unpredictable, poorly wired, useless and unreliable chargers. I wouldn't even give this 1 star but it's the lowest available rating

My first charger cord got so over heated (after 20 minutes of use) that it MELTED (the white near the block had turned brown and had exposed wires) and later fried my computer. Later I had to purchase a new charger cord and pay a few hundred dollars to get my computer fixed. I lost everything because of this defect and my computer still doesn't work like it used to and the new cord I purchase gets so hot you can't even pick up the block. Was told that "we haven't heard of anyone else having this problem" and now months later I look at the reviews, seems like A LOT of people have issues with this charger... I would expect something much more safe for a $2,000 computer.... VERY DISSAPOINTED

AS others have pointed out, this is unacceptable. If you are going to make these adapters so cheap and junky that they wear out in a year or two, please price them accordingly. Just as with my last Macbook, I now have to go shell out 80 bucks (really, Apple?) for a new adapter, at great cost and inconvenience to me. I'm on deadline today, so have to take time out of my day to go do this since I don't have enough juice to complete my work.

My old one wore out to where the wire was sticking out. I wrapped it with electrical tape and it stopped working altogether a few days later. Junk!
