    THE WORST

    • Written by from Moyock

My first charger cord got so over heated (after 20 minutes of use) that it MELTED (the white near the block had turned brown and had exposed wires) and later fried my computer. Later I had to purchase a new charger cord and pay a few hundred dollars to get my computer fixed. I lost everything because of this defect and my computer still doesn't work like it used to and the new cord I purchase gets so hot you can't even pick up the block. Was told that "we haven't heard of anyone else having this problem" and now months later I look at the reviews, seems like A LOT of people have issues with this charger... I would expect something much more safe for a $2,000 computer.... VERY DISSAPOINTED

    Terrible

    • Written by from Columbus

AS others have pointed out, this is unacceptable. If you are going to make these adapters so cheap and junky that they wear out in a year or two, please price them accordingly. Just as with my last Macbook, I now have to go shell out 80 bucks (really, Apple?) for a new adapter, at great cost and inconvenience to me. I'm on deadline today, so have to take time out of my day to go do this since I don't have enough juice to complete my work.

My old one wore out to where the wire was sticking out. I wrapped it with electrical tape and it stopped working altogether a few days later. Junk!

    Lasts less than a year..

First of all the charger falls out when you have the mac in your lap, and you accidentally put a little pressure on the plug. Also the cord wears out quickly!! I had to buy a new charger within less than a year of purchase, and they charge you $80!

    New MAC user

    • Written by from Houston

After countless MAC users' reviews, I bought my first MAC ever October 2014. I was sold on the idea of a product that by all accounts would not need to be replaced for at least five years. Now, four months after purchasing my MAC, the charger cable is exposed and I am dealing with having to replace the charger before the year is out. I am very disappointed. I read reviews on this very issue and though I am satisfied with the MAC itself, the charger is yet another thing.

I am terribly disappointed the very expensive charger isn't as well-produced as the product it is supposed to charge.

These chargers are of terrible quality. The rubber insulation surrounding the wires wears out in a matter of a few weeks. Dell XPS 13, here I come.

    So disappointed!

    • Written by from Moncton

I bought the cable after my original one stopped working (after 2 1/2 years). The quality of this cable is so poor that after a month, the wire is already exposed and a spot on the cable is pinch. The pinching happened two days after I bought it. I use the cable about once every day and it's in a spot where no one can walk on it or anything. For the price of the cable and the fact that there's no third party cable out there, I'm seriously considering switching to PC when changing my computer!

    Bad product

    • Written by from Morgan hill

I have to struggle to get power from the power supply. Some times, I have to Plug/unplug several times to get power. Since it is an intermittent problem, it is hard to take it to apple store. As much as I love my Macbook pro, I hate this power supply. Apple has to get a better power supply that matches it's name.

    Terrible!

    • Written by from Boston

This is ridiculous. Since I know that apple chargers are terrible I was extremely careful with this new one I bought a year ago. I never twisted the cable and I was treating it as a fragile item. Even this meticulous approach did not help! Once more the cable wore off and I have to buy a new one. Apple you can do better than that. Either build an adapter with better quality materials or drop the price in 1/3.

    $79 x 3 = Poor Quality

    • Written by from Franklin

I am now having to purchase my 3rd, yes 3rd charger in less than < 1.5 yrs. We are talking wires here, people. How can you possibly justify charging $79 for such an inferior product? I would seriously reconsider purchasing another Apple computer, simply because the accessories are sub-standard.

    Absolutely Awful

    • Written by from Bloomfield Hills

It's unreal that I've gone through 3 chargers in 2.5 years. I don't abuse my chargers, and after the first one, I took extra special care of the remainders. Now my third one is almost dead and I'm incredibly disappointed.

    I concur

Came online to check prices since my adapter failed and found terrible ratings. Mine just stopped working and I have had my machine less than 4-months. Given that it holds the charge fairly well, I don't use the charger very frequently. It charged no problem one day, then two-days later just didn't work. Hopefully Mac will do something to help fix this issue, since it is expensive to pay $79 every few months for what is otherwise an excellent product with which I am quite happy.

    POS!!!

    • Written by from Corte Madera

Very, very disappointed!!!..... Just purchased refurbished Macbook, love the computer, but charger doesn't work! I've had the computer 4 days!!! Thought it was just me, then read all reviews regarding this particular charger. Shocked Apple would make such a terrible design on a great computer! This is the absolute worst product they've ever sold! I too wish I could rate it 0 stars! Will be returning the whole lot & getting a refund! Refuse to buy a new charger every year!!!!!!

    Cool design with no durability.

    • Written by from West Richland

Unlike most of the reviews, mine seems to have no trouble staying in. That said, I use my charger every day as a student and the cord has fallen apart in less than a year. Every place that the cord is constantly bent at eventually frays and the wires show. I thought maybe I just used mine incorrectly, but everyone seems to have the same problem. Pricing a product at $80 that needs to be replaced every 8 months is ridiculous. Not impressed at all Apple.

Have had my MacBook for about a year. The cord is starting to wear out. I take it with me daily, so yes, the cord gets rolled up and placed in and out of a backpack every day. It's a LAPTOP...that's what I bought it for!!! In every other way I absolutely love this MacBook, so I'm spending $79 to replace it...but it is a hard purchase to swallow. Again...this is a LAPTOP!

worst MagSafe Power adapter apple ever made

    • Written by from Mountain View

I used the MagSafe 1 power adapter for four years with no issues (Amazing simple innovation by apple) - This very model I started having issues beginning 'DAY ONE' - The first and the basic issue that apple forgot to address - It does not hold (Very weak magnet) - I just put the laptop down and it disconnects - Worst than any laptop charger that is there in the market.

3rd power adapter in two and half years

    • Written by from Reston

I thought the first time I had to replace this adapter that maybe it was a fluke. It wasn't a fluke. This power adapter is poorly made and eventually frays at both ends (right before the MagSafe 2 connector, as will as where the power cord comes out the power 'brick'). I suppose if you kept it plugged into the wall (in one spot) for the life of your laptop, you'd be fine. For me, I take it work everyday so the cord is rolled/unrolled twice a day. For that use case, this adapter is junk.

    Terrible Product

    • Written by from Grand Rapids

I take very good care of my electronics, including these power adapters, and the cable frayed right at the base of the block within a year. No harsh conditions, no undue stress on the cable...just another $80 out of my pocket and a very unhappy customer. Really, Apple?

    What's going on here?

    • Written by from Thurmont

I'm not sure about the charred and fraying wires phenomenon everyone seems to be experiencing. Mine is two years old and it is still just the same as the day I bought my Mac. This one in particular charges my Mac far quicker than it has any right to, and without getting nearly as hot as the old MagSafe. Granted I treat my technology very well, but it still seems odd to me.

That said, the ergonomics of this stupid thing are absolutely pitiful. I wouldn't be stupid enough to let my $1600 Mac attached to a cable someone is going to trip over in the first place, so why did you have to make it even more easily detachable?

Fix this issue, Apple. Absolutely unacceptable oversight.

    Safety Hazard

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

A year into purchasing my laptop, I could see the cord already getting bent out of shape. Soon it started breaking and wires were starting to be exposed. I covered it with a bit of tape and went on my way. Then it would periodically choose not to charge my laptop. Yesterday I was charging my laptop when I smelled something burning. Turns out the cord burnt a hole through the tape and wires. It's clear everyone hates this cord, based on the reviews. Instead of bringing out a slightly different laptops and iPads each year, how about creating good quality chargers for existing products?!?!
