    • Written by

My MacBook charger recently stopped working. I don't know which part of it is working. I can't move it to a diffrent outlet, because it wont charge my computer. This has happened before but it charged eventually if I kept trying. Now it's just not going the charger is in good condition no damage done at all.

    Excellent adapter! Genius design!

    • Written by from Denver

I am one of many victims who had to pay over $300 in repairs because one bad step ruined two computers. When I bought my macbook in 2009, I was delighted to see that apple had fixed this problem in an ingenious way. Since then, my MagSafe Power Adapter has held up strong, lasting two times (going on 3) as long as power adapters I had previously owned. Excellent buy!

    It's a power adapter!!

    • Written by from temple hills

Have kept two of these around for a while never had a problem. Just had one die of unnatural causes (50lb Lab puppy used it as a chew toy) but the other one still works great. The wire on the new 85w unit for my new Mac Book Pro is a little stiff so I will be careful not to wrap it too tight but it should last quite a while if treated properly. Of course your mileage may vary.

Excellent product, but not for people who abuse their stuff!

    • Written by from Richardson

I've have two laptop Macs and one iMac with these power adapters and none have ever failed. I have a friend that is too lazy (or cheap) to get an extension cord, so he stretches his power adapter cable so tight that it keeps popping off. He thinks this is a design flaw, when instead it is EXACTLY what it supposed to do! You're not supposed to put a strain on the cord or connector. That should be readily understandable to any sane person.

Some reviewer here said that they had to "hold my Mac at an angle or hold the connector in" that should never be the case unless he/she is doing what my friend does, which is putting tension on the cable or stress on the connector. If you have to hold the connector in, you're doing something WRONG. It's that simple. The cord should have NO tension on it, the connector should have NO stress on it. Seriously, what is wrong with people? They treat their computer like a football, or like a hammer and then whine and cry when it breaks.

These power adapters work great and last a long time IF you take decent care of them. Use your head and treat your stuff with some respect and you won't have any more problems with broken adapters.

    Best Charger Ever!!

    • Written by from Truro

I think this charger is the best because if someone pulls at it by accident the magnet will release and your computer will stay exactly where it is, and it seems to be a quick charge (Even though I think that's just the computer itsefl) But overall, great charger!!

    Very Good!

Worked really well as a replacement for the old charger that was shredded by my dog. It does not get hot like the old ones and the MagSafe design has saved my computer a few times from a hard drop to the floor!

I absolutely love the MagSafe Power Adapter since I have tripped over my laptop charger cable before, this one just detaches from the computer without bringing the computer to the floor.

Great charger, great design! We've had our white 13 inch MacBook since May 2006 and when the original charger stopped working about a year ago we needed to get another one. We decided to go with this new design instead of the original because it laid flat closer to the computer. So far, so good. It works well and we have zero complaints. Also, having a plug that rests closer to the MacBook is nice, especially with little kids in the home.

I like the magnetic ability, I like the light on the cord that tells you whether your MBP is fully charged or not.
I don't understand everyones complaints. I've had this for a couple months and move it often - bedroom, living room, coffee shop, etc - and it's still in the exact same condition it was in when I opened the box.

    MAG ONLY

    • Written by from PORT ORCHARD

This is a review of the magnet end only. I got no issues with the rest.
Because the magnet leaves the computer and 90 degree turns there is more leverage applied from the cord and it pops off very well and often. I think the previous straight out plug design works better at staying attached. The new one is I must say more elegant and streamlined but less functional.

Lucky for me I still got one.

    Perfect piece of equipment!!

    • Written by from Santa Barbara

Ive read the horrible reviews on here but I have never ever had a problem with this piece of equipment. If I had to grade its performance I would give it an A+. Although it is a bit pricey to replace, Im not too worried about it. Im sure its going to work like my Macbook Pro for a long time.

    Great Durability and Performance

    • Written by from Cornwall Bridge

I'm very surprised by the 1 star reviews here. My son has been using the 60 W MagSafe Power Adapter for over a year with no problems and no signs of wear. He has a 13" MacBook Pro, and carries the power supply back and forth to school every day. He's not at all gentle with it, and connects and disconnects several times everyday.

I've been commuting with a MacBook Pro using the 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter for 3 years, and have had no problems. I own 2 of these power adapters, one at work and one at home. They've been great. One problem I did notice was a buzzing when I used my phone near my laptop when I was using the power adapter with the 2 prong fold-out plug. I was able to eliminate the buzzing by changing to the 3 prong power cord (which comes with the power adapter), instead of using the simple flip-out 2 prong plug.

I've been using Apple laptops for over 10 years and have never had a problem with any of the power supplies, or with the wires. When you compare Apple's power supplies and wires with the competitors or aftermarket supplies, I think the Apple power supplies are clearly better made, especially the way the wires stay soft and flexible. The cheaper products have stiff wires that always take on an odd shape that gets in the way.

Maybe not perfect but the best there is for now.

    • Written by from Cortland

I'm a PC technician and have had my macbook for almost 4 years. 3 months ago I replaced my power adapter because I wore out the cable with years of use. It still works, but the light doesn't and you can see the metal in the wire at the block. I taped the heck out of it and it's the permanent hookup at the desk. The new one was not cheap but well worth the money spent on it. Much better than the dozens of computers that we have had to rewire or cobb up because the power adapter was broken off the motherboard or case. I will take this any day vs the alternative. Not to mention that most of my colleagues with PCs are on their 2nd or 3rd machine since I've owned this one. I've never seen a situation where Apple didn't replace a unit that was legitimately a problem, within and sometimes out of warranty.

I don't agree with the any of the poor reviews and certainly can't understand why anyone having problems hasn't taken them back. I own SEVEN of these things. We are a family with 4 Macbooks - and have been for many years. I'm still using the MacSafe that came with my very first MagSafe Macbook. It's a little frayed around the edges but never fails to make a solid connection or charge correctly. This is the best power connector ever invented and is far superior to it's predecessor.

Why no problems with any of my MagSafe adapters?

    • Written by from San Anselmo

I've used the MagSafe adapters without any problems since they were first introduced.

Between home and office, I've bought well over over a dozen MacBooks and MacBook Pro's for myself, my family and my staff, starting with three early 1.83 GHZ MacBooks, then two 2.0 GHZ 13" MacBooks, then moving to 2.2 GHZ & 2.4 GHZ 13"MacBookPro's, three 15" MacBook Pro's, two 17" MB Pro's and two 13" MB Pro's. Not a single Apple brand MagSafe power adapter has ever failed, though we have had problems with some "bargain-priced" aftermarket clones from Asia.

As far as my experience goes, the only Apple ones that stop working have had their magnetic connectors stepped on. Aside from that, the only issues we've had are the result of using the hard plastic MacBook covers; some of them prevent the connector from fitting securely in its recepticle.
