    Simply and Utterly Preposterous

Love my Macbook. Never moved it from my desk in my life. Charger frayed and stopped working 8 months after purchase. It cost 80$. Enough said.

i just had to get a replacement for my 13" macbook pro, which is not even one year old. the cord never leaves my living room, so it's not like i have been abusing the product, but it started having trouble connecting and finally died for good yesterday. fortunately it is still a free replacement under warranty, but i suspect it will happen again. at $80 a pop, that's not good. looks like there are lots of people with the same problem.

    Worst Power Adapter ever.

    • Written by from Barrie

Apple really needs to step up and provide a better power adapter than this model. I've had 2 break on me in just under a year from the cord bending till it no longer works. A close friend had also had similar problems with his, and has replaced his twice now as well. I have never had power adapter problems with past laptops (Non-Apple), and this product is not "innovation".

    Garbage!!!!

    • Written by from Conroe

This is the only part of a MAC that is garbage! The rest of the machine functions beautifully. I wish Apple would do their wonderful computers justice by designing an equally wonderful power supply. But no they don't, they are ok with this garbage power supply that is over priced. Anyone who has had a MAC for over a year is very aware of this problem. Apple you should be ashamed of this horrible product that you force us to buy. Disgusting!!!

First adapter has lasted 9 months - time for the second now :(

    • Written by from Bradford

Echoes of the numerous reviews describing the initial intermittent connection problem followed by the extremely hot box that is either sitting near you or plugged into the wall. Well, we are at complete failure stage as of last night so, overall it lasted 9 months as I ordered the computer 12/10/2010. Not acceptable if you ask me.

    Very poor quality

    • Written by from Niwot

I, too, bought this charger and it stopped working after four months. I brought it to the Apple store, and they said it had a warranty of 90 days. I agree with numerous reviewers that this is an exceptionally poor product, and I would warn anyone who is reading these reviews (as I should have!) to avoid this charger! I hope Apple will eventually recall this product and offer a charger that *works*

Worst Adapter in History (Three Dead in Five Months)

    • Written by from Austin

If I could give this zero stars, I would. Like many of these people, I do not normally write reviews. However, I bought this computer in August of 2010 and my third adapter since then just died – within FOUR days of purchasing it. Absolutely nothing to cause or justify a mechanical failure has occured. It just stopped working. Judging from these reviews, that's incredibly common. Apple needs to do something about this if they ever want me to buy one of their computers again.

    DEAD AFTER SIX MONTHS?!?!

    • Written by from north vancouver

I cannot describe my frustration in having my second charger fail in 6 months!!!! SERIOUSLY something is wrong with this adapter! If apple knows it's going to fail every few months make it cheaper. Nothing is worse having this fail right after christmas when everyone is already broke!

    Breaks Easy

    • Written by from FREEPORT

Made poorly. Owned my MACBOOK for about eight months than it started to give me problems charging "on and off" for about 2 -3 weeks before It stopped charging completely. The tip fell off while examining the cord. Got a new one, but feel apple should revisit the problem. Like the magnetic feature but feel quality and construction is still lacking.

    I've gone through 3 in 4 months.

    • Written by from Kenosha

For the most part, I love everything about Apple, but this charger is completely unreliable. As a college student, money is already an issue, so dealing with replacing a charger is something I don't want to deal with. The heads always fall off because it's just not durable enough. I never tug on my cord or anything, so I was really shocked when each of my chargers broke.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from Ottawa

After my second T-shaped cable frayed and stopped working (I think that's a problem in itself), I ordered this L-shape. Like another reviewer said, it didn't work right out of the box. Fortunately that reviewer mentioned removing the battery, which I did, and for some reason now it's working, but the same reviewer said he's had to remove the battery repeatedly since to get the charger working again. None of the troubleshooting advice on the site is of any help. For $80 plus tax, this is a huge disappointment. Apple, I've been your number one fan since I was about 9 years old. Please don't force me to the dark side with shoddy design problems like this!!!

    • Written by from Martin

I have had to go through TWO chargers cause this stupid thing keeps dying and I've been through two in only 2-3 months, this is ridiculous and I'm getting ready to get another one. I baby my charger, I'm OCD over it. This charger is horrible and if it wasn't for me loving my MacBook and everything I wouldn't care. I WANT THE OLD CHARGER BACK I HAD IT FOR A YEAR AND IT GOT A STRAIN. But no, this one doesn't get a strain, IT DIES EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I will never like this charger and I don't have $80.00 a month to just buy a charger.

    I hate this....

    So so...

    • Written by from Denver

i havn't noticed in any of the other reviews the mention that if you plug it in the way it is shown on the apple website to plug it in, that it covers the ethernet port. You may be thinking, "Oh just flip it the other way." WRONG about 50% of macbook users have cases and cases prevent it from plugging in to the mac correctly the other way. nice design, looks 10 times better, but the design is a fail.

    New Design But Broken Anyway

    • Written by from Duluth

4/12/13 I'm about to buy my 5th power adapter in 5 years! The last one was the new and improved deal. The problem isn't just in the part that attaches to the computer. It's also the skinny cord that connects to the MagSafe. It kinks and shreds at the connection site. If's too expensive! Either redesign it or at least allow customers to buy just the skinny part & not the whole two part cord & adaptor. Come on APPLE!

I'm just about to order another one...

    • Written by from Portland

Because my charger broke YET AGAIN. I seem to have to replace about once a year. This last one lasted a whopping 1.5 years because I treated it like a newborn baby made of glass. Seriously, Apple? This is totally unacceptable. I will not be buying a Macbook ever again unless the power cord situation is remedied.

I am extremely nice to my chargers, and now that I am no longer a student on the go, my cord usually gets moved from my bedroom to living room and on the occasional out of town trip. It's a pretty light level of use, and yet I had fraying at the plug-in site until it eventually just died. I tried to fix with a bit of a electrical tape but obviously that was a temporary fix. Sigh.

    Really? I have buy another?

    • Written by from Ipswich

I am going on my third power adapter for my macbook, now. Terrible terrible terrible. My last one just stopped working. This time the cord frayed under the casing, I suspect -- it just doesn't work anymore and I bought it new about a year ago. The cord casings are FAR TOO THIN -- about half the size of my husband's sturdy PC cable. I don't care if the heavier wire looks ugly, Apple: build these things to last. I feel like I'm throwing 80 dollars away every time on your sucky design, but have no choice because I like the macbook.

I've had to replace this charger three times already. There is absolutely zero strain relief and the cord never fails to fray and eventually stop working altogether. Im so tired of repeatedly paying $80 to buy the same poorly engineered product just so that i can continue to use my macbook pro. Extremely unimpressed.
