    • Written by from diamond bar

my battery died after a little over than a year and i had to buy a new one. The battery lasted almost 3 hours away from the charger but in the long run, I had to buy a new one faster than expected

    You can do better!

C'mon Mac. Somebody get Jobs on the phone and make the decision to fix this battery problem. I've switched my wife to Mac, my newsrooms to Mac and now we have a 10-month old ibook with a dead battery. I agree with the reviewer that described this as "unacceptable!"

You really need a second battery if you are going to try to work most of the day, out-of-reach from an AC outlet. This did the trick for me!

    A fine battery

    • Written by from Chicago

I bought a refurbished Early 2008 Macbook direct from Apple in March 2009 and have been using the same original battery since then! 410 charge cycles and it's still functioning quite well.

To the folks who are complaining in a _comments section_ about swelled batteries and poor experiences, should call Applecare immediately. Walk any swelled battery into an Apple store and most likely you'll get a replacement! Complaining here in this venue shows you'd rather complain then have the issue rectified by Apple.

I bought a 3rd party version of this battery for friend's Macbook and there are a number of downsides (you might save some $ but it's not worth it):
They don't fit properly (you might have to take an exacto to shave off plastic to get it to fit with the twist-lock in place!)
They are light: obviously not taking advantage of the full enclosure
Parts inside rattle: poor built quality, letting parts inside rattle around

So the Apple 13-inch Macbook battery is solidly built and functions very well. Enough with the haters! Buy Apple Genuine!

    3 Years 989 Cycles

    • Written by from san antonio

I have put this battery through heck and thought that it was just alright, for being a good battery for 3 years 989 Cycles. I was finally told it was at 80% capacity and needed to be replaced. I never did half the stuff mentioned about only charging until its full, not letting it go into sleep mode, not charging halfway... I have done all these things countless times and my battery has done well. So, I thought this was an average product until reading all the bad fortune stories here. I guess I don't feel bad for needing a new battery now.

    Mediocre Battery

    • Written by from Windsor

I think my mac book is a terrific product. However, the battery life is not optimal....got about 14 months out of mine. Additionally, the plastic case has been splintering away and i had to buy a uniea hard case to keep it together. Fix this Apple folks.

battery stops working after a few years - disappointed

    • Written by from Templestowe Lwr

I have the same problem as several other reviewers. After seeing my powerbook battery become useless after 400 recharge cycles, I run my macbook with no battery, constantly plugged in. I only use the macbook battery 3-4 times per year when i need it, the rest of the time it is stored in bubble wrap. Now about 2.5 years later, the battery is completely dead, with the red "x". Even cleaning the contacts, resetting the PRAM, charging it for hours, updating the latest OS update and battery firmware update will not resuscitate this battery.

I fried my last battery overseas by using the wrong adapters... I bought this one as a replacement and it has worked perfectly! I've had it for 3 months now, and it still holds 3+ hours of battery life. Great product!

$2,000 should get me a better battery

    • Written by from Larsen

I've had my MacBook for a little over a year, and while I'm completely satisfied with the computer itself, the battery is terrible. It only held a charge for about 3 hours even with the backlight on the lowest visible setting. Now, it's completely useless and won't hold a charge at all. There is absolutely no reason why they couldn't have included a better battery, especially with the amount of money spent on this laptop. Apple, I love your computers but your batteries are substandard.

    4 Years and -40 Degrees

    • Written by from NEWTON

My first MacBook battery lasted me for over 4 years and 1800+ cycles before it went down to 80% capacity. I have been in Mongolia for 3 out of the 4 past years with the Peace Corps. This battery has been through a lot, including -40 degree winters. I couldn't ask for more than that. I got my replacement this week and look forward to the next 4 years.

    Best battery I've seen

    • Written by from Oshkosh

I have used many many Li-Ion batteries. In fact I'm a trained chemist who researches in Li-Ion battery area and have to admit that this is by far the best Li-Ion battery I've seen in any commercial product. I'm still using the original that came with my white macbook (early 2009 model). After testing it professionally, it is at 101% capacity even after 200 cycles and more than 2 yrs later. I easily get more than 5 hrs of output.

    Mac Book Battery

    • Written by from BLAIRSVILLE

I've had my Mac Book for 4 years and this will be my third battery. I take great care in never leaving it plugged in beyond the actual charging (green) time and to drain it completely before re-charging. When the battery is new, I find that it does last for several hours at first but quickly has less and less charge time before having to re-charge. I have spent a fortune on this computer with new (2) chargers and (3) batteries and had to upgrade to Snow Leopard to even be able to access some of the newer things/software. But, I think that is just the nature of the beast. We can't live without them (not conveniently anyway) and we can't live with the high cost of keeping one around! Otherwise, I like my MAC.

Do I have a lemon? Already a hard drive failure with the Macbook 13 and now a year later a dead battery, no weakening, no warning, just dead all of a sudden.

Starting to question the wisdom of my decision while looking at my 5 year old Toshiba working fine even now...

After 2 years with this computer and rarely using the battery "improperly" (i.e. I generally allowed it to drain all the way when used away from home) it now loses charge WHILE being plugged in. All the time.

Worked great for over the 1 year warranty. I left the computer ac charger unplugged for five days, when I plugged it in, the battery would no longer hold a charge. This does not seem like apple quality.

I have purchased only Mac computers since 1988 and never even considered a PC. For years, I have also always stronly recommended the purchase of a Mac over a PC to friends and family. This battery problem is so annoying and frustrating that I can longer make this recommendation and I myself will consider other options for my next purchase.
