    expensive but worked great.

This battery lasted 6 and a half years before it finally stopped holding a charge. I just dont understand why it's $30 more than the battery for the aluminium MacBook Pro.

    Impressive battery

    • Written by from Washington

After 1,667 battery cycles (and 5 1/2 years), my 13in. MacBook battery is finally dead. It took me through 3 years of law school, an entire keyboard (which had to be replaced because all the keys rubbed off), the Bar Exam, wedding planning, and 3 different jobs. A hard-working battery, if you ask me! Until just a few days ago, I could get about 3 to 4 hours out of one charge. Not too shabby. I only wish the mag-safe chargers lasted as long (I've had about 8 of those)!

Stock battery with purchase of my Macbook died on the 100th charge cycle...and so I finally purchased a brand new one from the apple store just a few days ago and it's dead on the 4th charge and is not charging..........ridiculous.

4 yrs later and I'm finally replacing the battery

    • Written by from Bend

I had no idea what was wrong with my macbook and the mouse pad button. I did some research...It was suggested that the problem was caused by a bulging battery. I took off the shell cover I had on the computer and sure enough, bulging battery!

    Replacement again

    • Written by from St-Charles-Borromee

It's been six years since I bought my Macbook 1.1, good laptop except for the battery. Today I have to buy my 3rd battery replacement. Four batteries in six years is not a good ratio at all.

    2nd Battery Swollen

    • Written by from Indore

I have a macbook, my factory battery got swollen 6 months out of warranty period. I bought a new one and today even that has swollen. Definitely an issue with either the batteries or the laptop itself. I have other Apple laptops in the family, none have had this issue.

    defective battery

    • Written by from Middletown

Well, those who write negative reviews have some truth, although the swelling took some time, say 4 years, starting in 2008, to finally not let the macbook seal up, there are defects. I was disappointed that this could happen in spite of using the battery separate from the power source, running the battery down as instructed, not dropping the laptop on the floor, and so forth. Though when you consider the overall cost of the computer, 120 for four years when you got the computer for more than 5 times this price isn't the worst of your problems. Still of all the aspects of an actual macbook, the battery is perhaps the worst part, even though the computer, it's hardware, and the operating system, have worked like a charm for me for the past 4 years.

    Amazing battery

    • Written by from Oxford

As others said, this is a battery that will serve you well if you simply use it as you're supposed to.

From the first day I got the battery, I charged it fully, let it get down to 15 or 20 percent and then charged it again. My computer is 55 months old, and the battery has had 1000 charge cycles and I still get 2.5 hours out of a charge. The battery health is at 82 percent. There's really nothing else to say.

    Yet another battery

    • Written by from Fort Wainwright

My macbook goes through about 1 battery per year. This is HORRIBLE! I wish apple would recall the batteries or the computer, which ever is the source of the problem. I am a loyal apple customer, but I have had to replace my battery on this one macbook at least 5 times. EEEKK! Thats a major expense on an already expensive computer.

Like many others....2nd battery swollen, low number of cycles, track pad acting up, an explanation that this is supposed to happen, and the option to pay $99. Very disappointed.

    bad battery

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I've been reading good reviews and bad reviews. I would have to say that the battery life is super short and it is not worth the money. I've read all the instructions on how to take care my macbook including the part about battery. The battery is drained out just like Apple drained my money to buy their battery that doesn't even have a 1 year life expectancy. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED.

I don't know what the fuss is all about

    • Written by

People here are upset that their $130 battery doesn't work. It's not the battery that doesn't work, its the user. ALL Apple batteries inside ALL of their products require great care. Apple's Li-Ion batteries need to be charged to full cycle, and then drained all the way down to ≤ 5%. Only then do you get excellent performance. I've had my MacBook since August 24, 2007 and as of February 18, 2012, not only is the computer still doing pretty well for it's age, but is holding at an excellent 74% battery health after 1264 charge cycles. Apple says this battery is only supposed to last ~300 cycles under normal usage. You need to understand to use this battery ABNORMALLY. You need to buy it and charge it for a full 24 hours the first time you install it, drain it to 0%, charge it to 100% again, and then use it. Only charge the battery when the message appears. Don't listen to the other morons on this review page that complain about Apple's battery not working. Apple's products always work.

Genius Bar says bulging battery normal sign of wear

    • Written by from Greenville

I have an early 2009 MacBook. When I took the alarmingly bulging battery into the Genius Bar I was told this was normal and that the bulging is a "safety feature" to prevent explosion. I was then sold a $130 replacement. How is this not a defect?

    Great Battery

    • Written by from Canyon

I've seen reviews that dog the Apple Battery for only getting 2-2.5 hrs more than the cheapies. I've got news for you, that is AMAZING. I'll take an extra 2 hrs all day long. That is the difference between making it through a work day and having to stop and recharge. Awesome Batteries!

    Battery bulge after 71 cycles

    • Written by from Healdsburg

The idea that the "bulging" battery issue is for depleted batteries etc is BS... my current battery has decided to literally split its seams after 71 cycles. The fact that apple doesn't replace these is definitely an extremely sore point with this customer.

    Four years

    • Written by from Seattle

I spilled water on my macbook and killed my battery. And it is a shame.

I've had this macbook for a little over four years with no battery troubles. The battery stays charged for about 3.5 hours, more if I turn on some power-saving settings.

Hope my next battery lasts at least this long.

    Don't trust the negative reviews...

    • Written by from Snohomish

I have had my macbook for 4 years and just recently noticed the battery health was 48% so not even dead yet. It didn't have any problems with swelling but I bought a 2nd battery just because I want longer battery life (my old one was getting about 2 hours) now I can have 6 hours of battery life and a backup battery just in case. I don't see anything wrong with the Macbook batteries, and if you are too stingy to pay $129 for a battery how did you afford $1,000 or more for a Macbook? When I had a Toshiba, the batteries were more expensive than a Mac battery and that Toshiba computer only lasted 1 and a half years!! I love my Macbook and am very happy with the new battery :)

    Swelling a big problem

    • Written by from Austin

Swelling happened suddenly with no warning. Cracked the case of my macbook. Went to Apple store, and the genius told me it was normal for batteries to swell after they died. He also said he had never seen a bloated battery crack frame. Looking at the reviews online, I don't think he was entirely honest with me.

I do think it's sad that unless you can watch your battery on an hourly/daily basis it can mess up your computer. Apple needs to fix this before they can earn more stars.

Battery Swelling loss of trackpad functions

    • Written by from Vadodara

Since, the past month, I have been facing issues with my Mac hanging suddenly, the battery though fully charged shows low charge and the screen turns blank. The base of my 13 inch Mc Book White has started to bulge and I have lost click functions on my track pad. I have regularly calibrated the battery and this issue disappoints me. I recently had to replace my Mag safe adapter and now the battery is giving trouble. I feel it was not worth investing in the Mac.
