    Amazing Product!

    • Written by from Bradenton

I received a $50 Apple Store gift card for Christmas and had just about no ideas about what I wanted to buy. I browsed Apple's iPhone accessories because I figured I could get something really nice for my 5s. As soon as I saw this product, I immediately wanted it. And how perfect. It also would support my iPad mini. The installation of this product isn't very easy, but the final product is worth it. I first placed it on my desk for about 5 months, and then decided to move it to my nightstand. I love it! It is much nicer to have my phone standing up on my nightstand instead of laying flat while charging. Especially because I play a lot of music at night and like to change a song every so often, I don't have to pick my phone up to see the screen. I definitely recommend this product to any iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s or iPad mini owner. I forgot to mention that this stand is also very adaptable to cases*, but you must adjust it during installation. You can make adjustments later if you get a different case.
*Not compatible with Otterbox Defender for iPad mini.

Not a fan. Inhibits incoming calls

    • Written by from Leesburg

Of course I love the form factor on this product, but the number one reason I can't use it: its aluminum construction seems to block incoming calls. I will randomly get voicemail alerts within 30-60 seconds of pulling my iPhone off the stand.

iPhone on the stand: 1 reception bar and no incoming calls. iPhone off the stand (and just laying on my desk): 3-4 reception bars and incoming calls come through just fine.

Be careful -- doesn't work with 6' APPLE cable

    • Written by from Vancouver

I laid out $35 for Apple's own 6' foot cable because they said this works "exclusively with the Apple Lightning cable". What they don't tell you is that it only works with the 3' cable!! The 3' cable is a little skinnier and the tolerances on this stand are incredibly tight.

By using a bigger hammer I got it put together -- but assembly is not for the fainthearted.

And, like several of the other reviewers have noted, it really is a little tippy for my iPad Mini.

    Assmebly Required!

    • Written by from Eugene

This item was very disappointing. If you read the fine print and make certain assumptions from what is in the package you can divine that it needs assembly but frankly assembly would not be necessary except that they cheat you of a cord for charging. Seriously! Cables that come with Apple iphone are way to short for the advertised use. In addition, I would not have been capable of putting these small parts together because of a neurological disease. I had to take it to a friend to have it put together. Really for $35 this was seriously not worth the headache and it doesn't look THAT good and lacks flexibility because of the requirement to use short charging cords.

    Beautiful and functioning stand

    • Written by from MAINEVILLE

I needed a stand for my 5s and Mini, both with the lightning cable, and liked what I read in the reviews for the most part. I was fortunate enough to order another cable accidentally as I felt I might need another one somewhere down the road. Completely skimmed over that part. So yes, it needs a cable to be an actual functioning stand.

When I got the box, I was a little surprised to see screws, an alan wrench, etc. to assemble the unit. It was a bit of a pain given that I have what my wife lovingly calls "plumbers hands", but I got it together, with cable, and hooked up to my PC in under five minutes. There were some negative feedback in regards to the plastic cover piece on the bottom. I have had no issue with it, and it seems sturdy enough to sit idle on my desk and not worry about it popping off. I had purchased two cases for my 5S and checked to see if it fit both, and it did with no problems (w/the included three adapter pieces).

Overall, it is a beautiful stand that, with my tech21 case, gets a ton of attention and subsequent compliments. I love the add to my desk space. A worthy buy, but I am giving it four stars accounting for the lack of a cable and mediocre degree of assembly.

    Great for iPad Mini!

    • Written by from Chicago

Overall a great product! The stand feels very sturdy and was a cinch to assemble. It takes up very little desk space and looks great next to my iMac. I like that you can adjust the stand to fit your device without having to take its case off. One small problem I have is that the removable plastic piece on the bottom that conceals the cable isn't well attached. It falls off almost every time I move the stand. Other than that, no major complaints!

    Excellent Concept w/ Tight Specs

    • Written by from Seattle

As other reviewers stated, it's an effectively minimalist design. However, like many minimalist designs, what looks and functions beautifully in ideal conditions usually means tightly restricted performance and maintenance. There is no room for error. So get this information right and you'll be happy with the Hi-Rise stand.

The packaging says "Works with Apple Lightning Cable," and I'd read here that cord thickness was an issue with this base. I was prepared, I thought.

The 1m length that came with my iPhone 5s is a little short, so I asked an Apple Store employee if there was a difference between the 1m and 2m lightning cable thickness. He said no. He was wrong. The only lightning cord that works with this is the 1 meter cord length from Apple. The 2m cable is thicker and will not bend tightly enough, or slip easily into the groove in the base.

So it's a great product if you only use the 1m cord. Twelve South needs to change their packaging to ** "Works only with 1m Apple Lightning Cable."** Twelve South should know that the longer length doesn't work, and note that on their box and online. I ruined a $30 cable, but it looks nice and works well with the 1m length.

Most disappointing! - Do not buy!

    • Written by from Ely

The worst product I've ever bought at an Apple Store since 1999. The flimsy cheap plastic lid in the bottom needed to be taped shut by me in order to keep it in place. After three days using it on my desk at work the (not supplied) original Apple charging cable has been damaged by a sharp edge at the rear of the stand. What now?... Buy a new charing cable twice a month? This HiRise is a 'HiCost' stand with several flaws. Do not buy... Zero Stars...

    Not the greatest

    • Written by from Hawthorn

It is OK but I would not buy another one. The thing comes in pieces and you need to put it together with the supplied allen key which is fiddley and time consuming given the tiny screws and obscure angles. Getting everything lined up it a pain. The bottom plate is cruddy plastic that falls off whenever I move it. I don't use a case so I probably should have stuck with the bog standard apple doc which is nice and simple...

YOU MUST USE THE STANDARD LENGTH LIGHTNING CABLE!

    • Written by from Vancouver

I purchased this as I keep my iPhone in a case and like to dock it. I installed it fine (although all of the parts a super tiny, which is very difficult to manage - and I even have small hands.

After putting it together, I realized I needed to use a longer cable with it. I had purchased the Apple 2m lightning cable so I took out the standard length cord with no difficulty. When I went to put the stand back together with the 2m cord, the plastic clip jammed in the dock. It wouldn't budge, and I had to use pliers to get the cord back out. Turns out, the 2m long cable is the tinniest bit thicker than the regular length cord. Twelve South should definitely put in a disclaimer that the stand must be used with the standard cable!

    But........

    • Written by from New York

Looks good, solid but bottom plate is cheap. The entire thing is aluminum except the plate that hides the wire. It's cheap and weak, it actually does not even stay on. Plastic insert for phone and wire is extremely hard to push down. You must rock it side to side to get it in completely

    Too bad

    • Written by from DIXON

It was a good try, but with a little more effort, it could have been a useful product. The "base cap" intended to be the cable cover on the bottom of the unit is made of a cheap flimsy plastic that is supposed to snap into place. It doesn't hold the cable in place and it falls off whenever you try to reposition the stand. If they had just made the cover out of the same aluminum that most of the rest of the unit is made from, then it may have worked better. Also, in their attempt to make it "air"-like, they made the base too thin. So, the cable has to take a very sharp 90+ degree turn, which puts pressure on the cheap plastic cover. And the groove for the cable is not quite wide enough to hold my standard Apple Lightning cable. If they had made the base a little bit thicker, they could have had a better path for the cable to stay in place and maybe even had room to include some sort of plastic clips to keep it there securely. There is a plastic cable clip that you are supposed to select from three different sizes, depending on your case thickness. Choose wisely - you will not be able to change it without destroying it. In an effort to make the cheap plastic cap look intentional, they also put one in just for show on the top of the rear support. Finally, the unit is not heavy enough to be stable. Even with just an iPhone, it wobbles around - partly because the cap on the base won't stay in place and partly because the front support is not wide enough. There is no easy way to adjust the back support, so using devices with different thicknesses is not an option either.

    Perfect !!!

    • Written by from Uniontown

Ignore the negative comments about the assembly, 4 screws a couple of turns and your done. My iPhone 5 and my iPad mini fit it perfectly without any adjustments. I bought it because I wanted a docking base so I could use my phone as a bedside clock/alarm…It's perfect for the job...

    no cable

Paying $35 for a dock that you have to put it together and it don't even come with a cable , that to me is like buying a soda without a can, buying a car without a wheel. Is just not a complete product. And I was stupid enough to brought two. The product looks Ok after you spend hour to put it together.

Good product, but the 2m iPhone lightning cord is an issue….

    • Written by from Marlboro

Just got two of the longer iPhone 5 lightening cords (2m)…. be aware that while the cord connector itself is the same size, the cord is slightly thicker than the 1m cord…..so is an issue if you use it with 12 South's HiRise Dock for iPhone. I managed to make it work, but have to tape the bottom of the docking station where the cord threads out to keep the cover together. Otherwise, I like this docking station.

    Solid product

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I really like the design of this stand, and it's working great for my iPhone. Just ordered a second one for my iPad Air.

Only problem I had was when assembling it one of the bolts stripped so the stand is a bit wobbly. With the design of this product that actually creates a rather serious problem, as a big feature of this stand is its ability to adjust to different device sizes. But now that the bolt hole is stripped the only way to make it not wobble is to glue it in place. (thus losing the ability to adjust) Hopefully my second one will not have the same bolt issue.

Absolute Best Dock for iPhone/iPad Mini

    • Written by from ORLANDO

This is the best dock for the iPhone since you don't need to take it out of the case. This dock works with any iPhone and the materials used compliment your other apple items. when you change your case, the dock is adjustable to adapt to it. I highly recommend this dock over Apple's own dock. Apple sells hundreds of cases in their own store for the iPhone and the majority of iPhone users use a case to protect it, BUT their own dock won't even support a case. Obviously sir Jony didn't think of the practicality of that when they designed Apple's Dock. Fortunately the people at 12 South understand that the common people have cases and their dock is simply a Brilliant way to charge your device.

    Brilliant Design

    • Written by from Calgary

I have a number of 12South products and they are all beautifully designed and well built.
This stand is pleasing to the eye, a breeze to install and very sturdy. The solid aluminium base is weighty enough to not skid around your desk when you press the home button on your phone. It has adapters to suit most cases and it sits up at an angle on your desk that makes it very functional. I use it with the Logitech Bluetooth Easy Switch K811 keyboard to quickly shft between my Macbook, my iPad3 and my iPhone5.
