    Great Bumper Case

    • Written by from Corpus Christi

I recently purchased the Tavik Outer Edge bumper case for my iPhone 5S.

Many other posters have mentioned the quality of the packaging as an indicator of the product itself and I'm inclined to agree. The case is actually smooth despite the appearance of being "tacky" like many rubber products. Its matte finish is indicative of the smoothness of the case. I would not call it slippery by any means, however.

The case fits snuggly around the phone and the molding allows the phone to sit either face up or face down without any part of the phone itself touching the surface. The case has enough give to act as light padding for drops.

I'm currently using my Outer Edge in conjunction with the Zagg Glass screen protector with no issues; it's a great combo for protection and looks.

Whereas other reviewers mentioned the difficult pressing the power button, I happened to find a case that had no issues whatsoever. Perhaps that's an issue they've slowly corrected with each subsequent run of the product. One of the cases I tried on in another color still had this issue although you don't need to "click" the button to lock or turn on the screen. The pressure of pushing is enough to have the desired effect even on cases with this particular "problem."

nice case, but pricey and doesn't work with Amazon Basics Lightning cable

    • Written by from Boulder

I bought one of these cases yesterday at my local Apple Store, because I had the bumper case for my iPhone that Apple gave away back during the antennagate scandal. The Tavik bumper is beautiful and feels just right.

The two strikes against it are that it costs $30 (similar cases on Amazon cost $10) and the Amazon Basics USB-to-Lightning cable doesn't fit in the phone's plug when the case is on.

    Excellent bumper

    • Written by from San Francisco

The bumper provides a solid grip on the phone, protects the outer edge, and if placed face down on a table, the face will not contact the surface. I also like that it doesn't cover up the back of the phone; my enclosed case for the iPhone 4 would trap dirt and other pocket detritus that would scratch and mar the back. I've also had brand-name cases where the finish would chip off, glued-on components would become unglued after just a couple of months, etc., but I anticipate none of these problems with this bumper.

The power button is a little tough to move, but it's not a big deal. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, the cutout for the headphone plug is too small for some plugs, and it's not easy to peel off the bumper. Otherwise, it's perfect for my purposes and my phone feels less fragile.

Three drops; not a scratch on my iPhone 5S

    • Written by from Savannah

I have dropped my iPhone 5S three times already, and the Tavik OUTER EDGE Bumper Case worked like a champ every time. I highly recommend it.

Two minor complaints: 1. The cover over the power button is tighter and harder to press than the cover over the volume buttons. 2. It's a little thicker than the Apple-branded bumper for the iPhone 4S.

    Great Bumper, Until...

    • Written by from Winter Park

This bumper does not work with the Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter, otherwise this is a great case but if you use third party cables or any adapters that are thicker than Apple's stock lightning cable you are out of luck.

I will not be using this case for much longer.

Good protection, but some headphones won't fit.

    • Written by from Philadelphia

This case give great protection and the rubber feel provides a great grip. However, the bottom part is too thick, and the openings are not big enough for different attachments. My biggest concern with the case is that not all headphones fit! I cannot hook it up to my sound system in my room, and some headphones I prefer to run with do not fit, either.... and that is very annoying.

    Yay, another Winner!

Its been a very long time since i've enjoyed a case like i do this one. It hugs the phone snug and feels great in the hand. Most people here mentioned the only issue they found with this bumper, was the stiffness of the buttons. I went to the Apple store to put one on for myself, and i did find this to be true. i tried a few of them, some better or worse than others, and finally on the 5th one for some reason, the buttons were much more tactile and fluid. A simple natural feel, you even hear the clicks. What a fantastic product!

Best iPhone case I've ever bought!

    • Written by from Willow Springs

Believe it or not I've had this case for 2 years and it's has protected my phone from everything. My phone to this day does not have a scratch on it. I've dropped my phone 60ft off a set of bleachers onto rocks and my phone was completely fine! I will definitely be a repeat customer and highly recommend this product to everyone!

Perfect protection without bulk or weight

    • Written by from Lake elmo

I was looking for something that wouldn't add too much to the iPhone 5. This is a perfect fit. The edge adds just enough to protect the front and back surface when laying flat, and the material adds just enough grip to help avoid accidental phone drops. The grip is not so sticky that it picks up pocket lint, etc.

Unlike some of the reviewers, I have had no issue with pushing the power or volume buttons. I went to the Apple store to test before I purchased and was quite pleased.

The black bumper looks stylish on my black iPhone.

Well-fitting and protective without the bulk

    • Written by from Cedar Rapids

This bumper is everything you could need in a protective iPhone case. As advertised, it protects my phone without it feeling too bulky or covering up the entire phone. It also protects surprisingly well for a case covering only the phone's edges. I'm a huge butterfingers and (unfortunately) drop my phone on a pretty regular basis, and this bumper seems to have protected my phone from any harm every time.

I've had the bumper for about five or six months, and it has sustained a couple of scrapes and dents around the edges from drops, but the color (mine is blue and black) still looks good and the bumper still fits snugly as well. It's been an excellent first case for my first iPhone. I have heard some complaints from others who have this bumper about button stiffness, but I have not experienced any issues with mine.

    Excellent Case

    • Written by from Fresno

This has to be the best case I had in a while. It feels excellent in the hand everything about it is a plus. Buttons maybe be a little tough but that's what you get with a new case over time it will be easy. I'm planning on adding a tempered class screen protector. Has anyone tested it out if so how is it?

    Don't get the white bumper!

    • Written by from Anaheim

I keep my phone in my pocket, and the white rubber grabbed the indigo blue from my old jeans (washed). I can't get the blue to come off the rubber.

Apple refunded my money and I got a black one, and I'm happy, although the buttons are hard to push.

    Don't - You'll just return it.

    • Written by from Signal Hill

The case is hard plastic, very hard plastic. The control buttons are all of the same molding. There is no way no how you can use the buttons on the side of the phone or on the top due to how hard the plastic is and how the buttons and bumper are one molded piece.
TAVIK claims they are " Visionaries " they should vision on how to redesign this case and destroy the current stock.

    It's okay... Needs design update

    • Written by from Renton

This bumper is for the most part made of quality materials, but after 9 months of use the rubber has separated from the hard plastic. Additionally, the hard plastic has cracked in multiple places. Besides this product not lasting a long time (less than a year- $30 is expensive for a bumper), my biggest complaint is the opening for the lightening adapter, it is too small for most non-apple charging devices. Therefore, removal of the case to charge the phone is a must and can probably explain why the bumper has cracks in multiple places.

Concept is great, good protection, case scratches your phone

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

I was super excited about this case having had the former iPhone 4 Apple Bumper and was told this was the next best thing.

PROS: Excellent protection for your phone and feels great. Tactile enough to make you feel like your phone isnt going to slide out of your handle, yet smooth enough to relatively easily slide in and out of your pocket.

CONS: I put this case on the day I got my 5s. Eigh months later I had to take the case off as there wasnt enough clearance for the headphone jack for me to plug in my Car Auxillary cable. AND...I have tiny scratches on my phone! Now, I know that dirt particles can periodically creep underneath, but the extent of the scratching leads me to believe that TAVIK could have designed the interior of the case to be more protective.

Overall I'm disappointed that I bought it to protect the outside of the phone all the while damaging (in my opinion) the areas it was supposed to be protecting.

I would give it 0 stars, if I could.
This is the worst piece of junk I had the displeasure of using in a long time.
You need to be a body builder to have enough strength in your fingers to press the tiny volume or power buttons on it.
Completely unusable! And I am not a small guy.
A 1 dollar Chinese no name bumper is better than this.
They obviously spent more money and attention to design the fancy shmancy case than the product itself.
I would send it back if I would not be out of the country.

Apple, shame on you for selling this. Just avoid.
