    Too Much Bass

    • Written by from Greenfield

Awesome little speaker system, love everything about it but it needs an equalizer app so that the bass can be turned down!

The major and only complain about this device is the lack of standby mode. It will switch off completely after minutes of inactivity.

    Great but an app required

    • Written by from Shaker Heights

Excellent product. I wish an APP is created to switch the bluetooth and the system on/off, volume up/down.

    Love this little thing!!

    • Written by from Chesapeake

I have the Soundlink at the office and a mini at home. I crank it in the morning and love it. If I want to tote it with me to another room, it's easy to carry. The sound is so good. I compared other brands, and this sounds the best. I went to four stores to try different brands. Many of the others sound a little distorted if you turn them up.

The battery lasts for a few days before I have to charge it again. I leave it in the bathroom so I can hear it in any adjacent rooms while getting ready. I crank it!

In the store I could walk to the other side before it got distorted. In my home, it can only handle one wall in-between your phone and the speaker. I just leave my phone next to the speaker.

wins a comparison with JBL Flip, Jawbone and UE Boom

    • Written by from jacksonville

I purchased the mini Jawbone for listening to Classical music from my computer but was very disappointed in the lack of volume I could get. I then purchased the Bose Soundlink Mini, the JBL Flip and the UE Ultimate Ears Boom and compared them directly. While all three have a lot more volume than the Jawbone, the JBL Flip is not nearly at the level of the other two. The UE has an appealing, boomy sound, as the name suggests. As a Classical musician looking to get the real tone of string instruments from the speaker, however, the Bose Soundlink Mini was definitely the winner. It is worth noting that the UE Boom seems to have a better wireless range and, unlike the others, the Bose cannot be charged using USB, though it comes with a charging cradle.

    The Best Sound!

    • Written by from Albuquerque

I wanted to splurge on my wife this past Christmas. She often complains about the tiny speaker on the iPhone. I compared several different blue tooth speakers. I liked the sound of the SoundLink Mini the best. I knew I had purchased the best sounding mini speaker, but I was not prepared for just how good the sound would be. If you place the Mini about 12 inches from a wall or other backdrop, the sound is even more present and seems to fill the house. I am floored by this product. We mostly use the Mini indoors at work and home; we don't travel with this unit - the sound is perfect for ambient music while working, studying, or cooking. The unit is also loud enough to play over a party if placed properly in the room. I am very impressed with SoundLink Mini. It is highly recommended.

Great sound but one glaring weakness

    • Written by from Tecumseh

This speaker has excellent sound, especially for its size, but the one weakness is that it shuts off after 30 minutes if it receives no audio signal. This makes it totally unusable with my iPod alarm. I could understand it if this happened on battery power, but it makes no sense whatsoever on AC power. The same thing happens if I use the aux input on the speaker - this makes even less sense. To me this is a major design flaw. I have searched for an app that would send an audio signal (inaudible high frequency) to the speaker every 20 minutes or so, but have not been able to find one. Has anyone come across such an app?

    Can't control the Bass

    • Written by from Venice

I probably shouldn't complain but the bass over powers the mids and highs. Can't reduce it so everything I play soundtrack bassy. If I can't find an EQ that can balance my Pandora and music library I'll have to return it. The rest is good

    Very Impressed!!!

    • Written by from Gilbert

Just received my Bose mini speaker and I was blown away. So easy to operate and set up. The sound is amazing for such a tiny speaker. It's so nice and portable and can be used for presentations in small rooms where I need it with my laptop. This is a fantastic speaker, great quality and name brand and so sleek and nice.

    Best Bluetooth speaker out there.

    • Written by from Avondale

I've compared my Bose Sound link mini to the JBL one and the Beats pill. What i've noticed is that the sound has more bass and is more clear. The JBL comes after the Bose. It has great sound quality. The Beats Pill is horrible in my opinion. For the price it doesn't have great audio.

I have always wanted a portable speaker that could connect via bluetooth so I can enjoy my music while traveling but the quality of the sound of everything out there never impressed me. To get a good sound they are big and pricey, but this is perfect. It's a small size, bluetooth, with a dynamic sound. The bass this little thing makes is very impressive. I love to use this in the kitchen or take it out to the balcony. I can't wait to to take it to the beach. This is exactly what I have always wanted.

The best sounding $200 Bluetooth speaker

    • Written by from Newport

I had my reservations about this tiny speaker. I already had the $300 JamBox Big but I found myself using that only at home since it was so large. I wanted a Bluetooth speaker system that I could use at home and take with me when I traveled. I sold my JamBox Big since it wasn't fulfilling my needs and I went on the lookout for a new Bluetooth speaker. I looked at the regular JamBox, UE Boom, Beats Pill (not the 2.0 version, the first one made by the terrible Monster), and the SoundLink Mini.

After extensive listening, buying products and taking them home only to return them later, I went with the SoundLink Mini. The regular JamBox just couldn't even match the SoundLink Mini in either the output volume or sound quality, the UE Boom had more features but the sound quality (particularly the bass) left a lot to be desired, and the Beats Pill was the worse sounding of them all.

The SoundLink Mini truly is the best sounding compact Bluetooth speaker. It has a surprising amount of bass that almost matches that of my $300 JamBox Big, that's not something that can easily be done since I loved the sound quality of the JamBox Big. The highs are also well represented in the SoundLink Mini. I have not experienced sound distortion with the SoundLink Mini even at high volumes. As expected, the mids leave a little to be desired but that's the standard case for speakers of this size since they don't have dedicated mid-rated speakers. There are two speakers for driving the highs and two drivers for the bass. I think it's amazing that Bose was able to cram so much into something so small.

The SoundLink Mini comes with an AC adapter and a charging cradle. You don't have to use the charging cradle but I like to since it's easy to plop the speaker on the cradle and walk away. Otherwise you can plug the AC adapter directly into the speaker. The speaker will play a sound letting you know it is plugged in. It has a battery indicator light that changes colors based on the battery level. I wish Bose would have incorporated a vocal notification like the JamBox Big so that I could press a button and the speaker would tell me how much battery is in it. Either that or I wish Bose would update the speaker's firmware so that I could view a battery icon on my iPhone/iPad just like I could for my JamBox Big (or like I can now with my 2013 Beats Studio wireless headphones).

My only real gripes are that the speaker gets about 7 hours on a single charge (my JamBox Big would easily obtain 14-15 hours of real world use) and Bluetooth functionality is lacking. In other words, the Bluetooth is used for audio streaming only. The buttons on your device adjust the volume of the audio being sent to the speaker only, not the actual speaker. So you still have to push buttons on the speaker to adjust it's volume. Bose did include a micro-USB port on the speaker so they can eventually release a firmware update, the port can't be used to charge the speaker.

I am giving this product an overall 4 out of 5 stars. It has a great build quality (it looks like something Apple would come out with) and even better audio quality. The audio quality of this speaker is better than the slew of other $200 Bluetooth speakers out there and is comparable to $300 Bluetooth speakers. I am knocking it down by one star due to the lack of Bluetooth features. If Bose ever updates the SoundLink Mini, I will happily give it a 5/5 star rating.

I do recommend buying one of the Bose protective slip covers though. I picked up the clear/green one. It has a lime green outline around the front and rear speaker grills with clear rubber around the top, sides, and bottom of the speaker. You can use the charging dock with the speaker cover on and it even fits in the travel case with the cover installed.
