    Unbiased review

    • Written by from Newport

I have tried various headphones, and I love bose, no doubt the absolute best in sound quality and performance. However, I came across these at my local Navy Exchange so i took the risk, it was between these and the bose Sie2 green headphones. The primary factor I went for these was due to the freedom it provides. I am an avid runner, last month just under 150 miles, one of my biggest frustrations was always messing with my headphone cord. I have an iPhone 5 and a case for my arm, after running for a while the headphones would pull, or just become frustrating. These eliminate that problem. There are many reviews that complain about sound quality, however read the directions, they are very truthful. They tell you you may lose the bass in the headphones, and you will, the way you fix that is changing your bud. Amazingly, when you do this they sound great. The battery life so far is great, I have pushed it to 2 and a half hours of running and battery still showed 3 quarter strength on my phone, no complaints there. They stay secure when fitted properly, and they will fall out or lose quality if they are not fitted properly. If I found bluetooth bose headphones I still will go for them, however there is absolutely nothing wrong with these.

    Huge Let Down....

    • Written by from Clayton

I really wanted to like these headphones (I wanted wireless headphones for working out & walking around) but I had too many problems to justify keeping them. JayBird provides 3 different size ear tips & I tried them all. The large ones seemed to provide the best seal inside my ears but I could feel them slipping out with any type of significant movement. Once the earbuds begin to slip outside of your ear, you begin to lose the bass. I was somewhat willing to overlook this & push them back inside my ears every few minutes but then the battery life was no where near the advertised specs. After around 40 minutes of continuous use with Rdio's music app, I'd hear the battery low warning message which means that you only have 15 - 20 minutes left. I recharged the batteries & got the same results. Unacceptable! Sadly, I returned the BlueBuds to the store for a refund.

    Replacement Ear Cushions

    • Written by from Solana Beach

I bought this headset and I really like it. I can't say I love it because way to many callers have said "repeat that" due to background noise . They say wow the wind is blowing, but I'm just walking. What bothers me is the cost of the replacement parts. You spend $170 for the headset and you get 6 ear cushions (S, M, L). I only need the S so the M and L have no value. So when one of them pops off which they will do after use, you have to pay $9.00 to buy another set of (S, M, L) cushions. So $9.00 for what equates to two useable cushions. Why can't I order just the size I need? Through the life of my headset I'm sure I will spend upward of $50 in cushions and receive a total of 10 useable cushions.

Maybe someone needs to set up an exchange program as I'm sure there are some men out there who could use my medium and larges.

Bad design or poor choice of battery suppilers

    • Written by from CHARLOTTE

Today, my BlueBuds X died, this is my second pair. When I attempt to charge them, the light immediately turns green, but they cannot be turned on. I don't ware them when I work out because they fit poorly when I sweat. For the price, these headphones should be able to last AT LEAST three years, but Jaybird evidently wants to make money swapping out their junk product. I cannot recommend this product or any product that is offered by this company since they obviously think too much of their product. Wish I could have given them 0 stars.

    Great Product!

    • Written by from Yakima

I am a collector of headphones, ever searching for that perfect set. The JayBirds are my number 1 choice to date. Very easy to get going, very easy to charge, and very easy to control. I am a runner, and have absolutely no issues with these falling out during a nice 16 mile run. The sound is an 8 out of 10. The only issue I have with the JayBirds is the price. 30 bucks cheaper would have been great. I never write reviews on products, so for me to do so means that this product is well worth it. Buy them today, and thank me later.

Great bluetooth headphones, and great headphones overall

    • Written by from Orlando

I got these headphones because I was looking for a bluetooth pair to use with my Lifeproof, I got these a few days after they came out and theyre great. Battery life is really good especially for their small size, I wear them at the gym and while walking to class and they usually last through the week. Sound quality is really good not just for a bluetooth headphone but overall really good. Quality is great its terrible a few people have had a bad experience with their Bluebuds.

    OK but expensive

    • Written by from Homosassa Springs

I bought the Blue Buds X to use as gym headphones. They were my first Bluetooth product, and I've followed that purchase with a JAM Rewind BT speaker and a Plantronics M50 earpiece.

First of all, the Blue Buds are very well designed and Jaybird supplies you with plenty of eartips and winglets to allow you to achieve a comfortable and secure fit. Still, I think my ears are inbetween sizes, so I'm considering the Comply foam tips. I continually have to reseat the left earbud when working out. I like the option to wear under or over ear, and the cord management system is very well thought out.

Now for the complaint----why does my Plantronics ear piece, which cost less than half as much as these NEVER have a problem connecting? If my phone is on and BT active, all I have to do is TURN THE EARPIECE ON and it automatically pairs with my iPhone 6 and my Nano. No problem, 100 percent perfect every single time. The Blue Buds, on the other hand, are a hit or miss proposition. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to make my device(both of them, actually) forget the Blue Buds and re-pair them. It's a pain, and it's pretty inexcusable.

Still, if you're considering these or the PowerBeats, these are a no-brainer. The sound is not quite as good as my Yuin PK3 wired earbuds, but I figure BT is always a compromise. These sound as good as I expect wireless earbuds to sound.

Reliable, light weight, it has lasted over 18 months of use so far.

    • Written by from Edmonton

I bought these earphones since its launch on Jan 2013. They are light and fit on my ears well. Sometimes when I sweat too much they fall off one side at a time but then I just dry each ear piece and put them back on. Battery is still lasting over 5h after 18 months of intense use. I work out every day and probably wear this guy minimum 5 days a week. I use them to run and to work out. People asked me where I got them and they commented they like the small profile and design. Although I had a problem two months ago. The earphones were not turning on anymore. Then I contacted the manufacturer and they just offer me to replace my earphones for free as soon as I ship them with the original charging cable. Well I finally found the original charging cable and then I gave a try charging the earphones with the original charging cable. It came back to life. Hahahah! Before I was used to charge them with generic cables. Maybe it stopped working because of that. Just a thought, not sure if that’s the reason why my earphones came back to life. x) I recommend this product. It works great for me.

    Great!-ish.

I'd say these are the best you're going to get for bluetooth headphones - sound is really good, they're comfortable, lightweight, and super convenient. really, amazing idea.

i do have some issues with the design, which unfortunately detracts from the quality. one being the cable tie method in the back (they cables will eventually slide out very easily - i ended up having to tape the cables in place)

the other thing is the way the earplugs slide on to the unit. they pop off. the little ear shield part as well, there is nothing to actually hold it on aside from the friction of the rubber and plastic, so they will eventually fall off and you lose them. I had a pair of these for about a year, and now the left speaker has blown. these do good sound deadening, so i don't even listen to them loud.

I also had an issue where the power button simply wouldn't work unless i plugged them in to usb for a moment. i would have them on the charger at work, i would unplug them and walk to the train, try to turn them on and nothing. as if the battery was completely drained. when this happens, if i momentarily plug them in to USB and unplug them again, they will then turn on, and last me the life of the battery. just kind of a weird glitchy thing that happened off and on.
basically, just some quality control issues and some not-so-thought-out design choices that frustrate me.

that said, i need a pair of bluetooth in-ear headphones, and these are the best option...so im off to buy another pair now.

    NOT for Working OUT

    • Written by from Arlington

Sweat ruins these headphones. Shows fully charged but will not turn on. Great for music while doing tasks while you are not sweating. Also Used while playing basketball with no issues. But extreme workouts that cause profuse sweating will cause these to stop working. Not worth a buck and a half

    Great!

    • Written by from Columbia

My experience with these has been almost entirely positive!
    Pros:
Battery life is best I've seen
Easy to wear and don't fall out (disclaimer: I wear earplugs at work, so I don't mind them stuffed in my ear canals)
Easily switches from one device to the next, unlike most Bluetooth headsets
Controls on device are easy to use and intuitive
    Battery meter on Apple devices
Best sound I've ever heard for an in-ear device, wired or Bluetooth
    Cons:
The earphone tips, although adequate, limit bass performance. If you stuff them deep in your ear canal everything is improved, but movement of the jaw causes them to back out a bit and letting in outside noise and bleeding out bass. I fixed this with COMPLY Premium Earphone Tips, but these cost extra, are harder to get in your ears & disintegrate over time.
No battery meter on non-Apple devices
Not everything I want on the equipment's controls are there (e.g. hang up a phone call)

I've had two co-worker buy these after seeing mine and they are as happy as I am.

Still work after going through wash twice

    • Written by from San Mateo

Was shocked by the number of 1 star reviews and looks like largely due to quality issues. I have to say I was one of the first to buy, around 18 months ago, and they have lasted spectacularly well, been on multiple ski trips and treated rough.

But the pinnacle of their durability had to be going through two full wash cycles in the washing machine and surviving, both times, with the help of some rice and TLC. No loss of audio quality.

Was blown away the second time they went through and still worked.

    Well-Designed!

    • Written by from TORONTO

Just replaced my Plantronics wireless earbuds & these are better in every way. The volume is loud, the sound quality is excellent, the fit is secure, the cable connecting the earbuds comes with clips to shorten it. Went for a run and these stayed securely in place the whole time. The BlueBuds even come with a nice case! They are pricey but definitely the best I've used.

    I could live in these!

    • Written by from Kilauea

I don't even say that I buy headphones anymore, I just trial them because one day with flawed phones and all I can do is give them away.

I hate wires getting tangled when I work out, and don't even like them around my neck. I tried these in the "under ear" configuration and liked the sound and the fit, but the cable bouncing around got on my nerves... THEN I took the time to set them up over the ear and use the little clips to take out the slack and it was PERFECT!

Great sound, solid, solid fit and no bouncing cable! Good in the rain and I can hear around them when they are turned off. Just make sure you take 5 minutes to get the little tabs tabs and ear pieces fitted properly for your ears.

Of note, the over the ear configuration is not recommended for voice calls as the microphone is positioned behind the left ear. That is not an issue for me, but it might be for you. I love these phones and they will be my go to headset for the foreseeable future.

    Sudden Death

    • Written by from Washington

My first ones died in a week, second pair lasted five months, third ones two months. All of them died suddenly while I was running. Gong for my fourth pair one because I can't get my money back. Costumer service have been very attentived and I haven't had problems replacing them but I am guessing they are not really sweat proof. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because of a very good costumer service and when the BlueBuds work they are awesome but unfotunately they keep dying.

Poor Value. Sound and Fit are bad at best.

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

Marketed highly as a headphone for the active lifestyle, I was let down across the board. Fit was intolerable even with "proper fitment". Sound quality was comparable to earbuds that came with the your 1980s pocket rocker. They have lots of outside noise penetration. Sometimes they sound like the sound is in mono. They are kinda easy to pair, but generally controls are vague.

    One high-flyin' bird

    • Written by from Van Nuys

I've had every generation of Bluetooth buds from Jaybird. Awesome product and customer service! I have been rockin' the BBX since the day they became available and can't wait for the next generation. So excited!!! I can't believe that there are any negative reviews. Maybe I've just been very lucky or maybe people are unknowingly purchasing illegal, pirated products that are not from Jaybird. Anyway, I take care I of my gear but, I workout 4+ days a week and never workout without my buds. I put them through some punishing sessions and then follow that up with 30+ minutes in the sauna, and yes, I wear them IN THE SAUNA!!! My workouts include every type of weight training that has been invented. I stick with one for two to three months then change. I also do HIIT sprints and bleachers on my OFF days, while wearing buds. I believe in sweat! If you ain't sweatin', you ain't workin'!! All that to say, I had to return my first pair of "JB-100's" because they kept dropping signal. Got the replacement pair, free of charge, and had no other problems. Next, the "JB-200's" and no problems. Then, the "Freedom". No problems. Got the "Freedom Sprint" buds and after the first week, they just simply stopped working all off the sudden. Returned, replaced for free, no problems after that. I've had the BBX for over one year now and no problems whatsoever. So, five and a half years, two mildly inconvenient problems which were remedied immediately and great customer service...
... if only JAYBIRD built cars. I'm a huge fan. Thank you to everyone at jaybird!

So So Quality, Bad Customer Service

    • Written by from Shelby Township

the earbuds are okay. sound is good, but impossible to get them to fit properly, or stay in, because of shape of buds and rubber ear insert. what's more, when my charging cord went bad in the first two months, they would not replace it. simply refused and told me any android charging cord would work. this was my second problem purchase from this company. they have flashy advertising, but that's basically all you're paying for. you can get a much higher quality set of earphones for the price they are charging. plus, do you want to pay for non-existent customer service?
