Nothing but signal problems. Connector is not firm at back of my Mac mini. I'll be taking this back and purchasing a different product. Don't buy it.

    False Hope

    • Written by from Troutdale

This product is horrible! Bought it online, had to troubleshoot why the sound didn't work, fixed that and then not even two weeks later the product won't connect to my tv! Everything works, tried the hdmi cable with my dvd player, worked. Switched hdmi ports on the tv that work with the dvd play, no signal. Tried it with my roommates brand new macbook air (which worked perfectly with the the adapter when we first got it), no signal. The product gives you only about two months if you're lucky. Avoid at all costs.

Failed to function properly right after purchase. The connection seems to be loose even when fully plugged into the thunderbolt slot on my Macbook Pro. The view on the my Tv would come on and off. Tested using another HDMI cable and another HDMI slot on TV, the problem is most certainly the adapter.

Broke first day of use - would give 1/2 star if possible

I bought this adapter at the Apple Store near me so we could play movies on our t.v. from the computer. First day of use, my son was using it to put his video game up on the t.v. and the MiniPort end came loose and no longer worked. VERY disappointed. This adapter should be more rugged than this.

    Do Not Buy!

    • Written by from London

It is a shame this is on the apple.com official site.
I purchased this adapter with a MacBook Air in September of 2013. While I have successfully connected my 2008 iMac to a TV with a cheap adapter from ebay, this product, endorsed by the apple store, has not worked once. More recently attempted uses seem to relate to a crashing computer. DO NOT BUY.

Why Apple would use such a useless Mini DisplayPort connection for their customers to join the MacBook Pro to a HDTV, I cannot fathom. Paid $35 from an Apple store for this product, and was unable to make any connection with it. Then I read the 62 pages of complaints and rants about the Thunderbolt port and realized it was not the Belkin connection that is faulty, but the laptop itself. We are likely going to purchase a cheap $400 laptop so that it can be connected to the TV with an ordinary HDMI cable and we can watch downloaded movies on the big screen like other people!!

I expect more from an adapter that cost $35! (And probably cost 50 cents to make). Belkin, are you reading these reviews?! Where is the quality control!?

    Dead on Arrival

I bought this in the Apple Yorkdale store for a presentation. Drove to a different city and it did not work. The venue gave me their adapter and it worked proving the computer port and cable. Tried once again to a different TV in another city. What a waste of my time. Took it back, no point in trying another one after reading the reviews here.

only held up for 2 1/2 weeks

    • Written by from edwardsville

so when i first got this cable i knew it was faulty because when i plugged it in it simply didn't work. after some jiggling and maneuvers i found that it worked if you held it in a certain position, but it only worked in that position. needless to say i knew it would fail eventually, but rather then returning it right away i decided to make it work and see how long it would hold up. only 2 1/2 weeks later it fell apart completely. as in the metal thunderbolt end fell out of the plastic connector. it was only held in by hot glue. complete piece of s###

    No Sound

    • Written by from West Linn

I bought this hoping to connect my mac to my TV so that I could watch Netflix and Amazon Prime on my TV, because I don't have a smart TV. It connected easily and played video, but without sound! This really does not make sense, as HDMI carries sound.
I do not recommend this product, and I am very disappointed with it.

What a piece of junk DO NOT BUY

    • Written by from New York

I bought this item on christmas eve day fought the Mobs at the apple store drove 3 hours so my elderly parents could watch old videos I had converted, connected the adapter and my screen was flickering blue as I moved the plug it would flicker, examined more closely found that the plug was so poorly assembled that the jacket was separating from the connector. I was not as lucky as other buyers, I did not even get 5 Minuted of functionality, and my long planning for a merry Christmas was for naught.

Does not work with 2009 MacBook Pro

    • Written by from Vancouver

There is an unresolved issue with Audio not going throughout the HDMI cable from the computer to the TV. One can theoretically use the audio jack, but I noticed that some online forum members had trouble with that, too.

I love Apple, but this was a little disappointing.

    Great Product

    • Written by from London

I bought this a few months ago to stream my netflix to my TV because I don't have a game console or apple TV. It works great, after making the small setting changes it just pops up and off when I plug it in and take it out of my MacBook Pro.

I leave the cable just plugged into my TV and connect my laptop when I need it. Overall I'm happy with it, it was easy to use, I don't have to have any crazy setting changes, there is only one cord that I need for both audio and video, couldn't be happier!.

    does not work.

    • Written by from Sloatsburg

Purchased this product about a month ago for hooking up my 13" Macbook Pro to my flatscreen TV. Stupidly/naïvely I tossed the box and put the adapter in my TV stand until I was ready to use it - did not test the product right away because I rarely watch television... Fiancé and I tried the product out this weekend and it DOES NOT WORK - tv cannot detect signal. I tried selecting different inputs, wiggling the cable, restarting, and so on. I know it isn't the outlet because I use my Mini Displayport at school every day; it isn't the HDMI cable because it works fine with my fiancé's HP laptop. Definitely just a broken adapter, and past the two week return window. Don't waste your money like I did.

    Great Idea Poorly Executed

    • Written by from Punta Gorda

Bought this and had streaming movies on my TV in short order. Easy to plug in, no surprises, it's as simple as that. BUT a month later, maybe 4 or 6 movies total, the adapter no longer works. Perhaps I shouldn't have left it plugged into my iMac but who really unplugs these sort of things when the TV menu allows choosing input with the remote. The adapter is quite warm to the touch and the TV is set to the same HDMI port as the cable is plugged into so it's not a connectivity issue. The TV just doesn't show up on the iMac 'Display' or 'Sound' under 'System Preferences' as it did before. I'm disappointed, wanted to watch a movie instead of writing a negative review but here I am. Avoid this product.

Broke after less than a month...

    • Written by from Holland

Definitely not happy with this. I wish Apple would make a real one, because the connectors on the genuine Apple display converter/connectors aren't hot-glued into place like this one is.

Bought mine in August, and it broke this past weekend. It's super cheap for the $35 you pay.
