    Too many false alarms

    • Written by from Springfield

Have had Hipkey for three weeks. When I have both it and my iphone in a pocket it will start beeping randomly. You will get a lot of stares from people wondering what the heck is that.
Please do a firmware update to stop these false alarms. Happens at least once a day.
Otherwise it is a very good idea.

Constant false alarms makes it unusable

    • Written by from Cottleville

I bought this over a year ago and just found it again after giving up on it. I checked to see if there was an update to the app recently. Nope, not since October. There are so many embarrassing false alarms that it is unusable. I've played with all the settings to no avail. I'm surprised this product is still in the Apple Store because it is not reliable. It is nicely designed and well made and looks good, if only it worked well.

    MOTION & DISTANCE mode issues

    • Written by from Greer

I agree with the many other reviewers stating that it is a great concept, but too many false alarms and false claims. FAR too many for $$. I don't believe any of the reviewers stating "this is ...great, perfect..etc.." Too many issues in the 2 modes I tried...can expect the same from the third.

MOTION MODE: Can NOT make this work! It claims that in motion mode, "track your handbag," or "even a sleeping baby." However, I cannot move further than 10' away without being alerted. Shouldn't that only happen in DISTANCE mode? Shouldn't I be able to go to another room at LEAST without it going off? Why need this if you're in VIEWING distance of a sleeping child or your handbag?

DISTANCE: The "safe zone" captures my exact address as I'm sitting here, yet it alerts me moments after testing and putting it in 'Alarm Distance' stating I'm NOT in safe zone and have gotten outside the distance.

If these issues are user error, or this product doesn't do what we all "expect" it to do..there is either a big misrepresentation, or it's just not a perfected product. Don't spend the $ until MANY improvements are made, or another company offers a better product.

    HipKey Needs More Software Features

    • Written by from Juneau

I love this thing....but, 1 point of criticism.
I want to never ever hear even 1 decibel of noise
from this thing unless I am trying to find my keys
on purpose. There are times when my keys and phone
get separated, on purpose, and my keys are not lost.
So I want a slider to turn off this beep to remind if
    separated thing.

    Faulty, avoid buying this

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I bought this as a gift after reading the wonderful reviews about it online. It has a lot of false alarms as other reviewers will tell you. It would be somewhat tolerable if some of the false alarms respected the safe zone setting but it doesn't. On several occasions this has gone off during inappropriate times, meetings, dinners with friends, and so forth.

My boyfriend not wanting to hurt my feelings continues to use it as his key chain, but it's completely turned off. Since it's still under warranty I contacted the Manufacturer and submitted a warranty submission and have not heard back. It's been over a month.

I would not buy from this Manufacturer again and will vet products more carefully even when being endorsed by Apple.

I really like this device and have had it for 5 months. Once you get it set up it works fine. I do get an occasional false alarm, but not enough to deter me from using this to save me from leaving my phone. I have found when the app updates it has been best to un-pair and re-pair the device to get the best work of this....I had so many disconnects with the latest ios update so I just un-paired and re-paired to my iphone and voila great connection again

Excellent product that works as described

    • Written by

I have not had any issues with the app or hipkey not functioning exactly as described. Connection happens very quickly from within the app itself, no need to go to "settings", "bluetooth", and wait for pairing. The app is eye-appealing, clear, and easy to use. I am very satisfied with this product.

Very handy everyday device. love it.

I have had hipkey for 5 months now and praise it every day. The neat little device helps me keep track on my iPhone when needed. I travel a lot and here hipkey comes in very handy to ensure me I never leave behind my iPhone. hipkey has smart features like the SafeZone (mutes alarms at specified locations like your Home or Office) and Motion Mode which makes hipKey an instant movement alarm that can protect your bag or purse from theft. I use this feature at restaurants etc.

    Okay

    • Written by from Bellevue

I've had this about 8 months and my take is mixed. Rarely connects to your bluetooth automatically, always gonna do it manually. When I do it manually it still doesn't always work. When it works it does its job. There are some false alarms that happen more than it should. Randomly somewhere and the alarm goes off. Is this a horrible product? No. Is it a great product? No. If this were a $20 dollar item I'd be more okay with its flaws but for $60? Not worth it.

The App is intuitive and easy to use. The features are very useful.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from JAR

Well, after using ... or should I say trying to use - Hipkey for 2 days, this is what I can report.

I bought it for my wife who constantly forgets her keys or iPhone. Before handing it over, I decided to test it out myself to be able to better explain it to her.

I therefore installed it on my iPhone 5 first. At first it went like a breeze to install. However turning Hipkey on and off was confusing - blinking red or green - I had no idea what it meant and the manual is a 'bare minimum' not going into details.

I then downloaded the app. Creds for the nice UI. Also, pairing happened quickly.

Then the beeping starts. For some reason it beeps unexpectedly even if you don't want it to. I try to turn the thing off but instead it beeps continously. Finally it is off and shuts up. Try again and somehow I am able to start testing the Motion mode. Problem now is, it beeps when the Hipkey is absolutely still. I shut it up by clicking the alarm bell on the app , then try to get it to start if I move the Hipkey or shake it. Nothing happens for some seconds, and then it goes off. Ok. So it needs a few seconds ... I can live with that.

Now for the finale - pairing it with my wife 's 4S . No such luck. I spent 2 hours with turning it off and on , annoying my wife with the beeping till breaking point "... I am never going to use that thing..." Sigh.

I gave up. It doesn't want to pair with my wifes phone even though I unpaired with mine, switched it off and on, set it for pairing by pressing the big button like shown on YouTube ... Instead it shows Connected in green, then back to Connecting in yellow, alternating every 5 seconds.

If these things are not fixed, it is money wasted.

Great Concept - Still Needs Work

    • Written by from Columbus

Great concept, but there are a few things that need to be improved.

I have been testing this product since it has been available and have found a few issues.

I have found that if one carries their phone in one pocket and your keys with the HipKey attached in another pocket (as I do), the Bluetooth signal quality can be diminished enough triggering a false alarm. I have experienced so many false alarms that the device is almost useless.

All these false alarms are also affecting battery life.

I hope the developers can find a method that allow better functionality when one's devices are carried on one's person.
