Bottom rear tabs break quickly and easily.

    • Written by from Provo

In making the case thinner, they weakened the rear clips. Both clips broke through normal use, just putting my laptop into my messenger bag on a desk or other hard surface. I wasn't rough on my laptop or case, this is a normal situation a laptop case should be able to handle.

Broken after 3mo very gentle use

    • Written by from Newmarket

My only previous disappointment with this case was that its matte finish shows EVERY fingerprint smudge and small scratch - even fingernails scratch it easily. A 15-second buff with a cloth would have it looking good again - even the small scratches disappeared - but it was something I had to do every couple of days. Nevertheless I was pretty happy with it - it fit well and seemed to offer good protection.

It has survived just three months in VERY gentle use. My Macbook gets gently hand-carried from table to table in our home offices - and not much - and only rarely leaves the house in a well-padded Targus bag, not recently. Yesterday as I was putting it down the bottom slid forward a couple of inches, I nearly lost my grip on the computer! As others have reported, two small tabs at the rear corners that are critical to attaching the bottom half of the case have broken. I have *NO* idea how this could have happened... I'm stunned that it has! Only in a museum display could it have a gentler life than it has here. Incredible!! I don't know what's going to replace it, but it won't be another Speck product.

    Not a Good Choice

    • Written by from Cornelius

As many have said, this Speck product is a major disappointment. I have always had good experiences with Speck products until I got this. First one lasted about 3 months. Now my second one didn't do much better. The bottom tabs have broken off and the top cover has chipped off in one corner. The material just seems to be too brittle to last. I am very careful with my stuff, and despite this I am now looking for an alternative cover. Hopefully Speck will come up with a more durable material.

    Latches Easily Break

    • Written by from Austin

The back two latches (one on either side) will snap off under normal use because there's not enough surface area. The plastic bits need to be small because the lid is in the way and the other direction there's the power plug and on the other side a USB port. So they don't really have much of a choice...Other than perhaps to use a stronger material to clasp on. Different design? Who knows...What I do know is that you will have this case for less than 3 months before your computer can just slide right out as you type (pushing forward on the laptop will slide it right out of the bottom case tray without those rear clasps).

Probably the worst piece of computer equipment I've ever purchased. Typically my dollar lasts longer with electronics and computers.

This isn't a "maybe" thing if you're careful. All I do is put the laptop in a padded bag to go to work each day...I lay this bag on my car seat. A co-worker has one rear clasp left. So it happens to everyone. If you never move your computer off your desk, you won't have any problems - but you also won't need the case.

    Brittle

    • Written by from Fort Worth

Bottom right back corner of the case cracked (fell) off within a month. My MacBook sits in one place on my desk with the only movement is limited to opening and closing the computer screen. Very low quality.

    Broken tabs and chips...just awful.

    • Written by from Dollard-des-Ormeaux

I have had this case for over a year and use it for occasional travel. Over time it seems as if the case dries out and becomes brittle. All the corners are broken and now the edges of the lid are chipping away.

I have had a bad experience with speck case products across all apple devices. I would never buy their product again.

    Not worth $50

    • Written by from Kalispell

I have used Speck cases for some time now and have been generally happy with them. This one on the other hand has some serious design issues. Mine and my brother's both have the tabs broken off and my brother bought another one just to have those snapped off as well. I am looking into buying another case to protect my MacBook Pro but I'm not wasting $50 for another case to last a month at most. Don't waste your money on this, $50 should buy a more solid case that should last at least 6 months.

Garbage: Scratches easily and tabs break. EXTREMELY overpriced

    • Written by from Boulder

I could hardly get this case out of the box before noticing scratches. This is my second case, because the first one literally came out of the box with scratches. Not one month after owning it, the tabs on the back side of the bottom case broke off. This case is garbage. I will be returning it for a full refund and making as big of a stink as possible.

Nice protection for MacBook Pro 15"

    • Written by from Charlotte

I just upgraded from an old 13" to a 15" with Retina Display. I had an inCase hardshell over my old MacBook pro, and purchased the clear Speck 15" for my new laptop.

I am very happy with the fit and the quality. I took the case out of the box in the store and placed it on the computer. It fits like a glove. Very pleased.

    Breaks easy

    • Written by from Saskatoon

Aside from the fact that the 2 clips that hold the bottom part on near the display breaking off under very light use it is a nice effective case. Currently have used epoxy to re-attach the clips, but are continuing to deteriorate and will need to buy a different one soon.

    Breaks easily

    • Written by from Milton

I bought this when i first purchased my 15" Retina display macbook pro and after 2 weeks the bottom piece started falling out. I had my 13" macbook pro for 3 years, purchased a different hardshell case, that endured some major falls, during those three years but it still stayed strong/intact for at least 2years.

Case works great, not sure what all the negative fuss is about?

    • Written by from Vacaville

I have had no problems with this case. No broken tabs. No mold as others have claimed. Machine looks brand new underneath.

I made sure I wiped my machine down well and allow to dry completely before attaching case. After 6+ months of use, I removed the case and my MBP looks brand new still underneath the case.

Im protecting an approx. $3,000 machine so I am careful with my MBP when transporting etc. No problems, completely satisfied.

    Broken after two months

    • Written by from Dillingham

As another reviewer posted, the tabs holding the bottom case to the rear of the laptop broke. You might get your case to last longer if you are really gentle with it, but if you were really gentle with your stuff you wouldn't need the case to begin with.

As many other reviewer stated, the bottom tabs break off easily

    • Written by from RENO

The product looks and feels great, however, the (huge) downside is the bottom case attaches to the macbook with 2 very small and flimsy tabs. After about 6 weeks, I noticed stress marks, then eventually small cracks. I've tried "reinforcing" them with superglue, however, both tabs have continued to break off, rendering the product unusable. For fifty dollars, I do expect it to last longer than 3 months! Unacceptable.

    The bottom broke

    • Written by from Frisco

I bought this after reading some reviews on how easily the bottom gets broken from the two back handles. But I thought that I can take a great care of it and this won't happen to me. I was wrong! The funny thing is that I honestly have NO IDEA how they got broken! I honestly wasn't taking them off and on. they found them broken just like that.
I love Speck and this it provides strong protection. but those bottom back handles which hold the lower case to the rMBP are way too fragile. I want my $50 back!

    Not durable

    • Written by from Mississauga

After buying this product once, I figured I did something wrong to make the corners between the monitor and base crack off. After this second one i bought, I have come to the conclusion that this product, though attractive, is pretty much going to break no matter how safe you are with it. Not worth the buy no matter how nice it looks.

    Do not buy

    • Written by from Las Vegas

I purchased this from the Apple store because I wanted a case for my MBP. I take really good care of everything I own. This case I think looks and feels nice, but the bottom portion of the case does not fit well. the rear tabs never really go on the macbook. One day I just noticed the rear right bottom tab just broke. I never dropped it or mis-handled it. The case is just not that well made. I expect more from Apple selling this below average product in their stores and I also expect more from Speck. I would expect a case that is supposed to protect be much more durable than this. It broke without ever being dropped. How does that happen??

    Looks great... for a while.

    • Written by from Janesville

Lasted about 2 months then i started noticing these little stress cracks on the corners in the front, both top and bottom. I absolutely baby this laptop and its gone no where but my desk and a very cushy laptop bag. There are no signs of an impact so these are just forming on their own. Very disappointed since there were cheaper options out there and i thought i was being safe dropping $50-60 on this product... wrong.
