If my receiver has no SPDIF or digital audio out and no HDMI port, am I S.O.L. for getting ATV audio to play through my receiver's speakers?

I get my cable TV audio through the receiver because of the cable box's HDMI port connecting it to my TV (right?), and my CDs/DVDs through their traditional connection to the receiver, but I guess my Sony, being 20 years old or so, is not up to the task. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something here....If there is no HDMI port or optical digital audio port on the old receiver, I gotta buy a new one, correct?

You don't need to buy a new receiver. Just connect the Apple TV to another HDMI input on your HDTV. The HDTV will split off the audio and send it to your receiver using the same analog RCA cables that are presently carrying your cable box's audio.

I'm assuming that you have an available HDMI port on your HDTV. If not and your cable box has component video outputs, use them for cable to free up the HDMI port for the Apple TV.
