Product Information

  • Overview

Take off with the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition Sand quadricopter and intuitively control it using the FreeFlight app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Once AR.Drone is airborne, its built-in camera lets you view the Earth below in high definition video on your iOS device. And you can share your experience with other AR.Drone pilots around the world.

    Intuitive

Download the AR.FreeFlight 2.0 control application from the App Store in iTunes and you're ready to fly. By tilting your iOS device, you control the direction of your AR.Drone, and by releasing it, you can instantly stabilize AR.Drone.

    Record and share in HD

As AR.Drone flies, the camera records HD video and sends it directly to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. It only takes one click to seamlessly upload your video to YouTube or to share pictures on Picasa. The new piloting application makes everything simple, providing instant control wirelessly. If you'd like to shoot longer videos, there's also a USB plug-in for more recording storage.

    Pilot like a pro

Thanks to the AR.Drone's autopilot feature, you can fly like an expert as the embedded sensors allow for easy take-off and landing. The AR.Drone 2.0 also features the exclusive and patented Absolute Control piloting mode for beginners that you can adjust as your expertise grows.

    Explore more

The AR.Drone 2.0-generated WiFi N connection allows you to fly AR.Drone as far as 165 feet away from your position. The AR.Drone 2.0 pressure sensors on-board provide unique stability that will automatically correct and maintain a still position in the air regardless of altitude and wind up to 15 mph.

    Join a community of pilots

Keep track of your flight data, location, photos, and videos and share them with a community of other pilots from all over the world thanks to the AR.Drone Academy. Check who is flying in your neighborhood or watch videos from pilots at the other end of the world.

    Acrobatic

This flip move is exclusive to AR.Drone 2.0. Become a daring pilot and perform barrel rolls by simply hitting a button.

I'm really impressed by the technology built in to it too. beginners will have an easy time getting in the air while experienced R/c Guys will be able to fly it around like any other Quad copter out there. This is also more durable than other Quads I've flown. I have bashed it into walls and lamp posts and it kept going! This is a great way to get your feet wet with FPV, Arial video and Arial photography. The App is great too, giving you the abilty to adjust a number of parameters to customize the heli to match your skill level and interests.

There is also a lot of support on the web from Parrot themselves and also from a lot of enthusiasts.

I owned the AR Drone 1.0, and compared to that, the 2.0 is a lot easier to fly. This is mainly because the newer version has a built in compass that allows it to orientate itself relative to the pilot. The controls are intuitive and can be fine adjusted to how you want to fly the drone. The built in barometer allows it to stay stay stable at higher altitudes (This thing can go high!) and this is another improvement not found on the last version of the drone. There's even a gps module available that supposedly makes the drone even more stable, though I have not tried it myself. Oh, and if you really want to impress your friends, this drone can do flips! The camera quality is good, and I like the social aspect Parrot has included into the app allowing you to share flight videos with other AR Drone owners. In general, it looks cool and flies better than expected. I would definitely recommend this!

I fo The ArDone 2.0 is fantastic for what it does, but the opportunities is has lays in overall functionality and app performance. I found issues with connectivity, the Drone not executing commands via the app in real time, and an issue with the product support page by the manufacture. Even worse, the manual is horribly written and severely lacking.

The support page needs to be redone, there are a countless number of issues with the site: missing pictures (for visual learners), outdated information, and a lack of information thereof. I returned the product because I was running into to many situations where support was needed but no where to be found.

The drone often hesitates before performing a command or sometimes does not recieve the command at all and flies off into a wall or ceiling before you have time to shut it down. Taking it outside was even worse. At first it seemed this was a much better flying environment until once again it did not receive the commands and flies off like it has a mind of its own and lands 40 ft up in a tree 150 yards away. My teenage boys have had much experience with robotics, flying helicopters, and remote controlled cars so this should not have been difficult to fly which it's not until it stops responding. Save your $299 and invest it in either a better unit or a simple inexpensive helicopter that performs much better for half the price. We also buy a lot of Apple products and love them but this is not an Apple product and Apple does not stand behind it. Happy holidays everyone!

I have owned the first version for several years, and couldn't wait to get my hands on the next gen AR.Drone 2.0. Stability has improved greatly, as well as the video quality. The battery that ships with this edition doesn't last too long so I would recommend picking up a second battery; either the same, or the extended life 1500 mAh version. I would also like to try the GPS-enabled flight recorder. You can also purchase spare parts, in case you have any "accidents" with your drone. There are several built-in safety mechanisms to ensure that nobody gets hurt and to minimize damage to the drone if a mishap occurs. I prefer using the "joystick" mode on the iPod remote, and I love the flips that can be performed with the 2nd gen model! My kids love chasing after the drone...or being chased by it!
