Brilliantly clever product.

Fundamentally, its only function is to turn your existing cable up by 100 or so degrees, but this provides a lot of practical convenience, whether on your nightstand for charging, or on a desk for syncing and heads-up display.
Rather than design just another pretty dock basically impractical for anyone with an iPhone case, TwelveSouth has thoughtfully designed the HiRise to be nearly universally compatible with any case out there by using Apple’s own cable. This isn’t lazy, it’s brilliant. Because of it, this dock will work with almost any case that accepts the tiniest, highest-quality cable out on the market (and everyone already has one!).
This design choice isn’t the only thing that makes the HiRise great. It is clear from initially opening the box that TwelveSouth has put a tremendous amount of thought and pride into the whole experience. The stand exudes quality, as does even the packaging and assembly instructions. The allen-head cap screws have a secure and organized place in the box, and the allen key has a permanent home inside the base of the dock itself. Every single cleverly-designed step in the unbox & assembly process will bring a little smile to your face. It's reminiscent in this regard of Apple's own products.
Best part? The Lightning standard is new and expected to be around for a decade. Since this dock is well-designed and adaptable, it should last through many future generations of iPhones. In a market where we too often begrudgingly pay $30-40 for a molded plastic case to be used for a few months or a year before moving on, it is an absolute delight to pay the same for a clever, convenient product that is solid as a rock and will remain useful for many years. …

Works great with iPad Air!!!
I recently upgraded from iPad 3rd generation to iPad air. Apple does not manufacture docks that would be compatible with iPad Air. I recently upgraded from iPad 3rd generation to iPad air. Apple does not manufacture docks that would be compatible with iPad Air.

My Bride and I have cases on our iPhones and with other products you had to remove the case or, as I had been doing, leave a cable on the night tables or dresser to charge our phones. The Twelve South HiRise makes it easy just to drop the phones in so we now have his and hers. My wish list would be a redesign that would let me charge an iPad air and an iPhone. Once again, his and hers would be necessary. Nicely done Twelve South. …

Better buy some tools first or buy a different dock
The two vertical columns should be erected parallel. But unfortunately they are not because their downsides are differently angled The two vertical columns should be erected parallel. But unfortunately they are not because their downsides are differently angled - severe mistake in manufacturing.
This means not only you do not have proper support but it looks ugly. I used a metal file to rasp some aluminum off the bottom. Now it looks even uglier but at least it gives support.
They claim that their product works with "...practically any case on the market...especially cases with recessed connections that no other dock can fit..."
Well it does not fit my Apple-Store bought case.
The reason? You must use different plastic clips for different phones/cases and the manufacturer is too cheap to include several of them. They include size 0, 2 and 5 and I would need 3 or 4.
So I used an electric drill to adjust the clip to my requirements. Without the drilling the iPhone would not even connect electrically and the stand would be completely senseless.
Buy something else! …
