    Superb looking and sounding headphones

    • Written by from la madeleine

Bowers & Willkins have come up with another great new product, and I have to say, I'm literally blown away by the P5, in every domain :

+ Outstanding built quality : genuine leather, aluminium, stainless steel, ... miles ahead of the competition. Cable and ear pads are replacable, and the design of the headphones really feels sturdy and reliable, meaning you're gonna spend quite some time with these lovely headphones.

+ Good looking : I didn't expect less from B&W. The most beautiful cans I've ever come across. They're sleek, pure and elegant. Luxury and simplicity.

+ Fair noise isolation, some of the best passive isolating headphones on the market. They'll put you in a "bubble", leaving you alone with your music.

+ Of course, amazing sound quality : A balanced, warm, rich and detailed sound.
Bass aren't too invasive, mids are simply magical and clear, highs are precise without being agressive. They get you a relaxed yet accurate listening. Truly a concert for one !

+ And finally, a very convincing packaging : a replacement cable, a soft travel pouch, an adaptor, ... Plenty of stuff included with the headphones.

Certainly one of the best choice for mobile use, and great value for money. The Porsche of headphones.

    Brilliant, glamorous and elegant.

It's hard to find the words that would describe how good these headphones are. They are simply exquisite. The quality of the sound is astonishing. When I listen to music with these, I can hear notes and details I have never heard before. But most importantly these headphones can deliver the same sound quality in every situation. It doesn't matter if there is a lot of background noise, I can easily hear every single nuance of music. Also they stay on head no matter what I do. I can longboard in peace when I don't have to worry about my headphones slipping or dropping.

To be more precise, if you like Beats, the P5's are not made for you. P5's don't have the same overly heavy bass sound that makes everything sound muddy. The P5's sound light and deep. They will deliver excellent lows, but the bass doesn't suppress other sounds at all. Also P5's have a lot clearer and sharper highs and mids. I think that P5's beat Beats in every way (no pun intended).

Then there is the looks. Instead of trying to look as modern as possible, P5's are made to look as good as possible. I know that everyone doesn't fancy the retro look of these, but I love it. These headphones look like jewelry when I wear a suit. P5's are like original Wayfarers, they look good with anything, and they will turn heads.

Shortly, P5's will make you feel exquisite, as they sound exquisite and look exquisite. They are headphones for real music enthusiasts who want quality while on the move.

Best headphones I have ever bought

    • Written by from Godalming

I've always been a fan of Bose headphones but these are much better. The sound of the Bose is boosted and manipulated making it sound artificial. With these, the sound has not been altered at all. Bass is perfect, not too little, not too much. Sound quality is impeccable. And compared to the Bose, the Bowers and Wilkins will last much longer since they are made of metal and leather compared to Bose's flimsy plastic and artificial leather. They are worth every penny.

No more cans of baked beans strapped to my head!!!!

After 6 months of deliberation I finally took the plunge!!. I was already a devotee of B & W as a Zepellin user, and was not disappointed. Firstly the design is a class leader, and comfortable. A little tight but no doubt the set will loosen up with up with time. The sound quality is exceptional with any music I have loaded, mainly Smooth Jazz, R&B and limited Blues. Bass and treble are so well balanced with both excelling dependent upon the recording. I would guess that if you are a big bass fan then the P5 may need more research. I actually upgraded from a base set of Bose which were excellent however the difference is staggering. Ok you would expect it to be with a big cost differential. But the difference is worth every pound. At least try 'In Store' and in my opinion 'Sound Cancelling' is great if it suits you but does negate the sound quality a little

    Music to your ears...

    • Written by from Maidenhead

Every time I walked into my local Apple shop I looked at these - I tried them on several times and each time I walked out empty handed, until recently when I plucked up the courage to buy them. I've never been a music enthusiast, hence my reluctance to spend £250 on a set of headphones, but I'm glad I did. I'm now hearing songs far more clearly - each word sounds perfectly crisp; and each note like it was played in front of you. Surface to say, I'm not listening to music far more now than ever before. I also use these to listen to movies on my iPad.

All in all, if you/re into music other than Drum 'n' Base (I believe that's what the kids call it), I think these would be a great buy. The other reason I would opt out if DnB was your cup of tea is simply because I have heard to can buy earphones with a greater range of base, which may suit this genre of music. However, if you're into general music, like me - these are perfect!

FYI: I also enjoy listening to "BIG BAND" names, such as Sinatra through to the more recent Bubble and I have had a wonderful experience, hearing each instrument crisply - including those that give the big BASE sounds!

    Balanced Perfection

    • Written by from Rostrevor

A little hesitant in paying that price tag for a pair of headphones.

BUT, and i can't stress this enough, THEY ARE WORTH IT.

They are the perfect balance of exceptional Sound Quality, amazing comfort, striking and beautiful design, great noise isolation and just overall value for money.

Made of great material (sheepskin leather and aluminium/stainless steel), these hands down beat the stupid plastic of Beats in terms of built.

Sound quality - i have tested about 40 pairs before i heard these... and immediately smitten by the natural sound and how amazing they sound with my library.

Comfort - they can be worn for a good while without stress. I will say tho that since they are leather - they can get hot.

Overall - these are fantastic for anyone who genuinely appreciates their music, not the novelty of music.

    HANDS-DOWN better than Beats Pro's

    • Written by from Salisbury

I previously listened to my music through Beats Pro cans (mainly for the extra bass) but I wanted smaller cans as my main use for headphones are for my commute to work. I was initially apprehensive about buying these as I knew they were not going to be as bass-heavy as the Beats, and I already had it in my head that I would be disappointed with the sound signature of the P5's.

I have had the P5's for 6 weeks and I can assure you that the sound that comes out of these are better than Beats in every aspect. The bass does not rumble like the Beats, but if bass is your 'thing' I can assure you that these still have plenty of bass and will not disappoint.

To compare, when paired with an iPhone, Beats Pro's are like a car stereo with a sub woofer in the boot, bass is nearly always over emphasised. The P5's on the other hand are like good quality floor standing speakers in your lounge paired with a good sound system, the bass always ready to kick in when the song requires it. And the bass does not interfere with the mids and highs.

Another worry I had before purchasing these was the volume output, as I was used to the additional output from the powerful (un-amped) 16ohm Beats. These aren't quite as loud as the Pro's (which go way louder than most other un-amped headphones out there) but the P5's are definitely loud enough for most, and you won't need your iPhone on full volume, like I thought I would prior to using these.

Comfort wise, there is some pressure in the super-aural design as the P5's clamp to your head, but they don't clamp anywhere near as much as the Pro's, and hopefully after time the clamping may loosen a little. There is little to no sound leakage, and the P5's seem to keep noise out very well (you can feel outside noise cut-out as soon as you place these over your ears before even turning your music on!).

The only niggle I found was when the P5's are paired with my MacBook Pro, they sound slightly lacking in both volume and oomph than when paired with my iPhone. I guess the P5's were engineered to work fundamentally with Apple's portable products; which leads me to assume that people who give these a bad review are not using Apple's portable devices to power their P5's... strange, as you would have thought the MBP sound chip would easily beat any Apple portable device, this does not seem the case with the P5's though (my Beats are way louder on the MBP than through the iPhone).

To conclude, if you have Beats (any of the line-up!) and are looking for something new and smaller, or if you are in the market and cannot decide between Beats cans and the P5's, do not think twice, BUY THESE and thank me later (unless you plan to use with a non Apple portable device then I would recommend auditioning these with your device in a store before parting with your cash).

    PERFECTION

    • Written by from chester

An amazing product, spent a lot of time deliberating between these and the Bose quiet comfort 15. But as soon as I put these on I was blown away ! Need not worry about them not having active noise cancellation, 100% comfortable with amazing build quality and finish . Would definitely recommend !

These headphones put the bose QC3's to shame

    • Written by from Wakefield

I originally purchased the bose quietcomfort 3 headphones which were £300, I wasn't impressed with them from the off. The noise cancellation function works brilliantly to cut out background noise however when listening in silence you can hear a feint buzz which is incredibly annoying. The material lining the cups isn't leather either so I would expect the lifetime to be significantly reduced and to top it off the sound reproduction isn't that good.

After returning the bose headphones I went to the apple store in meadowhall (Sheffield) and purchased the p5's and felt the quality of the product matched the price tag. The aluminium and leather construction makes the headphones feel altogether more durable and aesthetically pleasing. The sound reproduction is second to none and is considerably better than the bose which I feel were a letdown over the mid-range with increased bass to attempt to compensate. The high notes are excellent and the case which is supplied with the headphones is a thing of beauty.

For those of you looking for a quality pair of headphones for under £300 and after sampling a number of products on the market for that price range myself, I have no hesitation in recommending the bowers & wilkins p5's. One of the best products I have ever owned.

Bought these from the Apple store in Leicester - tried them out for 30mins there. You will need to burn them in- after 100hrs of burn in, the sound quality is beautiful. All the music sounds sublime, completely different from what I have heard before. I am listening to all my music on my i-phone again and enjoying it. very comfortable but you have to get the position right. I can wear them for hours. I own the Sennheiser 595HD and bose IE2 - outshines both of them by miles. Simply superb!!

    Incredibly good

Ny Bose noise cancelling fell apart after three years they are now my emergency computer pair, bought the B&W P5's based on write ups only..... and they are sublime. Coupled with the Fiio e11 head phone amplifier a completely new level of sound quality is now available to me. It's astounding how good they are and as far as noise cancelling is concerned the best approach I have found is get a good pair of in ear HP's for the plane......or if your are a road digger stick with the ear plugs.

    I dont do reviews, but...........

    • Written by from ASKAM-IN-FURNESS

As the title suggests I don't do reviews (this is my first!)
I have the C5's and they are truly awesome, but I don't really get on with in ear phones (they make my head boil?)
But these....the sound is truly amazing! I tried all sorts, and price wasn't a factor in my purchase, Grado, Bose, etc. (I tried ones that were over £500) But the B&W's were so much better in every way. Build quality is amazing, sound quality even better, and as for comfort? Nothing compares!
They may seem pricey, but I guess that after a nuclear war the only surviving things will be cockroaches and these headphones!! lol
Buy them, I promise you won't regret it!!

Add a portable amp for audio nirvana

    • Written by from Bo'ness

    So pleased with these.

To take them a level up, with a big kick up in the low range, consider a portable amp like a FiiO E11. With the optional iPad/iPhone dock connecter the sound is just wonderful.

    Brilliant Sound

    • Written by from Chatham

If anyone had said to me that they had spent £250.00 on a pair of headphones my immediate comment would have been more money than sense. However, after trying the P5 headphones, how wrong is that statement!

I tested them on some of my favourite music tracks and wow - there were sounds and detail that I just had never heard before. I have made some impulse purchases that one later regrets. But this is not one, they are brilliant and I now find I listen to music more than ever before.

    • Written by from Glasgow

Originally had the Beats by Dre Solo HDs and canont explain how happy I am upgraded -they were so flimsy and they weren't durable at all - not to mention the sound quality ended up going all fuzzy and crackly, in short they just DIDNT LAST.

The P5s on the other hand, wow. They are not only beautiful with the leather and aluminium design that is miles ahead of any other headphones i've seen in terms of class, but the sound wuality is perfect. The bass is really defined and you can really hear it but it doesnt shake and make that grungy vibrating noise in your ear. No to mention they are so comfortable! The leather is padded and so soft on the ears so you can wear them for hours on end (as I do) and still be totally comfortable.

They're a little on the pricey side for headphones but they're so amazing that they're worth it! If you haven't gottem, gettem!

I have owned , klipsch one (too much bass). Sennheiser PX200i (best for crisp sound and good bass). Apple in-ear (great backup set). Sony EX in-ear (best for £20) Bose AE2i (great sound and bass but cable broke) Bose OE2i (nice sound but half volume people can hear, bad leakage)
Never used the one's in the box, but now Bowers & Wilkins P5 (wow! comfortable full bass, crisp sound, memory foam stopped leakage, secure fit and they look sexy)
BUY THEM NOW!!!! even though they are £250, well worth it!
