Best document scanner on the market: GET ONE!

    • Written by from Hove

To concur with most of the others sensible reviewers around here; this is a very good machine.

    • What file types does it scan to?
PDF and JPG. A4/A3 paper and photos can be scanned into .pdf/.jpg – there's even a special clear contact sheet supplied to protect the originals!

    • Does is scan quickly?:
YEP, certainly does! Around 3-4 seconds a sheet, and in duplex (2-sides at the same time).

    • Does the software work well?:
YEP, integrated with other systems you are likely to use already, and all (accept Acrobat: see below) works on Mac AND Win.

    • Are the file sizes good?:
YES, many options are given, but even the high quality ones save to much better file sizes than other machines I've used.

    • Does paper block in it?:
Nope. Used mine for months, only ever had it block once.

The one thing in making your decision, is which model to go for...
Acrobat is the decider. If you want the Mac version of it you should really buy the S1500M, if you want the Win version of it you should really buy the S1500.

(...I just REALLY hope Mountain Lion works with the Acrobat 9 Pro they supply currently with the S1500M machine!)

In summary, everyone should own the S1500M machine if they really want to get SERIOUS about going paper-free.
It really did the job for me, and I also use one in my business accordingly, as I've tried a great many other models, and nothing competes with it.

Go paperless in a realistic way, with OSX-Lion and Adobe Acrobat 9

I have received my new ScanSnap S1500M two weeks ago. It’s fast, eats 20 pages per minute in duplex scanning, colour or black/white, fed form the sheet-fed. Operates automatic in a reliable manner. Bundled with licence for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and FineReader it is an excellent and robust overall solution. Quite impressed, even I have no shares in Fujitsu, Adobe or Apple. Collaboration boosts!

Really 1st class companion to your Mac

I work from home and have to email a dozen or more sheets of hand-written notes off to clients every evening. It's now a joy! I sit down in front of my Mac (Snow Leopard, yes fully supported out of the box) pop my fistful of papers into the scanner and within a minute there is an email on my desktop with the PDF attached ready for me to add a cheery message to my client.
The scans are beautifully clear - clients are commenting on the clarity, the scanner takes up an improbably small space and I'm a very happy Mac user.
I've never used a Fujitsu product before and would have been sceptical of their ability to produce such a Mac friendly product, so thanks for the reviews for helping me take the plunge and buy.
It's expensive, but it really is a lovely thing and well worth it. Don't compromise with something cheaper. You won't regret buying this. Search for a better price.

S1500 not S1500M is the way!

    • Written by from BARRY

OMG! The scansnap is just the best bit of kit I have ever purchased!
It has transformed hundreds of unfiled paper docs into small compact searchable PDFs in literally seconds! The greatest fun is the shredding and a sense of relief as you see bin bags of utter waste being sent out and extra room created by todays mountains of paperwork.
The windows S1500 versions (Run it on your mac using a virtual PC program such as Fusion) has the best software bundle. The S1500 has a far less favourable bundle (why?).
The PDFs can then be OCR'd into other applications such as Word processors etc and made to be really useful.
The S1500M is more expensive and offers less.
However the scansnap product is absolutely excellent.

    go paperless

Scans documents fast; automatically recognising single/double sided and (variable) page size, scanning front and back simultaneously, discarding back if it's empty. A pleasure to use. Includes the £326-if-it-was-available-separately Adobe Acrobat Standard which can make scanned pdf documents searchable, so you can find them with Spotlight. Combined with OSX coverflow and a large screen, this scanner is a joy to use. With Time Machine, "scan and shred" becomes viable for the home office. OSX Preview application is ideal for any page removal, rotation, re-ordering or merging that's occasionally needed.

Problems with Snow Leopard were trivial and fixable, and now there's a fix from Fujitsu - Google it if you need it. Originally the S1500M was not compatible with PC, but now both PC S1500 and Mac S1500M can be used on the other platform. Plenty of help available online from other happy Scansnap users.

It's not a flatbed scanner, and won't do film, slides, or books (unless you cut the pages out). It's OK with photos, but documents are its forte.

    BEWARE no Snow Leopard support

    • Written by from Monfaucon

This is a great scanner but beware - there is no support for Snow Leopard and no date for when a new version of the software will be available.

    Worth every penny!

I've tried a lot of scanners for the purpose of scanning contracts and other documents. This scanner is blazing fast and the best ever. I'm smiling each time I use it. If you are looking for a high quality photo scanner you might want something else.

    Amazing!!!

I have seen scanners in my life, but the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M beats them all.
The ScanSnap s1500M is small, fast and makes clear pictures. It's very simple to use.
I can highly recommend this one.
Hope that buyers will have the same experience as me.
