WARNING: Will Only Run With Administrator Rights!
Written by DG from Bury St. Edmunds
11-Sep-2008
I've just finished an email conversation with EA support and they tell me (and I've confirmed it) that SPORE will ONLY run on a Mac if you login as a user with Administrator privileges. This is such an obviously bad idea that I can't quite work out what EA are playing at frankly - I would only use an Administrator account to do system admin work, never for day-to-day use so I'm now trying to get a refund from EA :-(
Just utter madnes!

amazing game
Written by RP from Reading

I love this game. It's fresh and different to a lot of games on the market. You start life as a single-celled lifeform and evolve from the sea to the land to the stars! The graphics are brilliant and the imagination behind this is inspiring. The variety of different forms of creatures are almost endless.
I know that EA have copy-protected this game, which a lot of people don't like but but my review is about the game itself and it deserves 5 stars.69 of 88 people found this useful

Excellent Mac version

Spore is a great package and the Mac version is better than I expected.
It's like several games in one. Perhaps a little shorter than I would have liked, though.28 of 38 people found this useful

I never played on a game like this before.
When i bought this game i had high hopes of it, but it beat all expectations. The system interface is great and its so simple to use and the evolution stages are great. Overall i wish there wee more stars to rate this game.23 of 30 people found this useful

Boring, boring boring
Written by MR from Cardiff

This game is interesting and hold your attention for a couple of hours. However, whilst one can change the look of just about evrything, animals, building, vehicles it doesn't seem to make any difference to the way they perform. Once at the space stage it becomes highly repetitive and rapidly becomes no fun whatsoever. This is compounded by the fact that the game is highly nstable and crashes regularly. With no autosave this is very frustrating. My advice, stay away and don't waste your money

Despite needing to be admin on your mac, this game is fantastic, well design, aesthetically pleasing and it is nice to see a game where by you can manipulate everything to tailor the whole game to your own desires.
Well worth the money and even works well on my black macbook.13 of 16 people found this useful

This game is really good. It's fun for a while and gets old after afew weeks. I was expecting more online capabilities such as mmorpg style adventures.

Already have this game on DS, but thought i'd see what it was like on mac, and it is fantastic! It does take a while to install but it is well worth it, the graphics are brilliant and it is such an easy game to get into. Was playing it t sixth form and i soon gather a big crowd behind saying that they all want it.
Highly recommend to anyone of any age.12 of 16 people found this useful

Be Prepared...
Written by JC from Manchester
24-May-2009
Spore is the latest zany creation to come from Maxis - otherwise known as 'those people who made The Sims'. Not only did this people make The Sims, they also came up with SimCity, allowing you to control not only a family's life, but a city's life. So obviously, their God-Complex not being fulfilled, they've made Spore so now you can conquer planets... and control their lives too.
The gameplay is fairly intuitive, allowing not only the hardcore gamers to understand it, but new players too. The cartoony creations or aliens you make are surprisingly comical, and allow it to be used safely within the family and means that its good for children and adults alike.
However, be prepared for EA's new strict piracy control. The DRM within this title is strangling, and can be fairly noticeable. For starters, people have complained that you do need to be on a administrator account and that you can only install the game on up to 3 computers, and does require constant verification when used online (Which will be often seeing that most of the content is downloadable).
The game can be played offline, but online usage is definently a must have.
In conclusion, a great game to have, but the DRM is a problem that needs to be rectified.9 of 11 people found this useful

This game is Legendary! written by a universe ruler (in the game!)

Spore is really cool when you first boot it up, you are taken to a whole new universe!
Despite taking up a lot of space on your hard drive & needing a pretty decent graphics card, the 3-D experience just doesn't let you stop! The creature creator is really good too I'm just guessing but for tribal stage there are probably about 1,000,000 different combinations not including getting the limbs in the same place, this really does mean you cannot make the same creature twice! But if you do want it again there is sporepedia which you can filter to get any creature you or maxis (the game designer) have made. This game is amazing but my best tip is check your PC or Mac is compatible before buying this game!9 of 11 people found this useful

A bit of a let down
Written by AW from Faringdon

Despite a good start on the micro level, I found the game tedious and lost interest very quickly. It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because I still think the game is innovative and may appeal more to younger generations.
I wouldn't recommend this game further.20 of 33 people found this useful

Incredible and fascinating
Written by AG from Oxted

Spore is a really amazing game. It's a Civilization simulator, but it doesn't just give you a race and let you build the buildings, oh no, this game lets you create your own race and make it look any weird, wonderful and wacky way you want. You can then design the buildings, vehicles and even terraform planets as you head out to other planets. A really Innovative and fun game and well worth it!

Best Game Ever!
Written by AJ from West kirby
15-Sep-2008
This is the best game I have ever played and it is well worth the money!!!! The game looks pretty and plays beautifully! I understand a lot of people have been ranting about the DRM but they should also say that this is a fantastic game! The DRM is a small issue but overall it doesn't effect the casual gamer (who this game is aimed for). You must buy this game now!

Buggy!
Written by PV from Brighton
23-Apr-2009
Reasons not to buy:
1. Crashes all the time.
2. EA only interested in releasing patches for the Windows version (even though the Mac version is actually a Windows app running under some virtualisation system)
3. Ludicrously restrictive DRM (which they have now removed in the Windows version, but not the Mac - see 2 above)
4. Almost impossible to launch on a 3GHz iMac (requires much force-quitting to finally persuade it to run) (see 2 above)15 of 28 people found this useful

Good on PC Bad on a MAC
Written by AJ from BARNSLEY
25-May-2009
I tried this game on OSX to begin with and it was really laggy even on LOW settings. I then uninstalled, booted to bootcamp xp and installed on windows xp. This game on the PC runs really well (30fps average on macbook pro).
Also the game comes with ONLY THREE activations. This means you can only install this on 3 different computers. This game also requires the internet even though the game is a single player.
Avoid if a mac user, try if a PC user.7 of 14 people found this useful
